Saber Mon, 22nd May '06, 9:33pm Well, I'll start this one off:
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why does every slayer solo sound like a horse being jerked off?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you witnessed such an event?
I have... lets say its not very noisy, but it is nasty. Slayer solos don't sound like that... I'm not sure what they sound like (besides crap :p )
Slayer/CoB/Lamb of God/Mastodon/Thine Eyes Bleed concert on the 17th of June... I'm just going to miss it :( :( :(
Looks like I have to do some counting now.
Kitrax Tue, 23rd May '06, 5:36am o.O Ooooooookay... :bad:
I like the few slayer songs I have heard, and I didn't hear any horse noises... :p IMO Iron Maiden sounds all the same to me. I thought I woulod like them, but after listening to 3 different albums, all I could think was, "Wow, hear one song, and you've heard them all..." :skeptic: :rolling:
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 23rd May '06, 5:51am Iron Maiden sounds all the same to me. I thought I woulod like them, but after listening to 3 different albums, all I could think was, "Wow, hear one song, and you've heard them all..." *shrugs* Yeah. The most striking example of that was the Dance of Death album. A sorry excuse of a Maiden album...
Slayer solos don't sound like that... I'm not sure what they sound like (besides crap [Razz] ) Hey! The solos in Angel of Death are killer!
Cúchulainn Tue, 23rd May '06, 8:58am You might like "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son", "Killers" or "Powerslave" Kitrax. They are pretty varied, unlike the sorry excuses for the 90 and beyond albums...
Undertaker Tue, 23rd May '06, 7:44pm I think Brave New World rocked! :D
Saber Tue, 23rd May '06, 11:04pm I have been listening to a lot of Our Lady Peace recently. I know you guys don't like them, but for me, they are great. One of my favorite bands ever.
Kitrax Wed, 24th May '06, 2:55am Meh...file OLP away with P.O.D. and other crap like that. :bad:
Hmmm...what's this? A Motley Crue album? Don't mind if I do... :thumb: :rolling:
Saber Wed, 24th May '06, 4:56am Hey Kitrax. I got Red Hot Chili Peppers tickets... they had sold out in 2 hours, but my friend has an inside man, and we got VIP passes (or somesuch... I think its in a box) for 135 bucks each... its me, my girlfriend, and my best friend.
Now I play the waiting game... (October 20th, Boston)
Harbourboy Wed, 24th May '06, 5:20am I'm tired of the waiting game. Let's play Hungry Hungry Hippo.
But on topic, I bought my first CD in over three years today. John Lee Hooker - "Blues Legend". I've always wanted to listen to more Blues music.
Susipaisti Wed, 24th May '06, 2:37pm "Wow, hear one song, and you've heard them all..."This could be said about a number of bands, really. Often it has more to do with how much you like them than the actual similarity between the songs. Some of my friends hear my beloved thrash metal bands as monotonous and repetitive, every song sounding the same, but I hear a lot of intricate differences. Some bands that I find are just repeating one song type over and over are the height of rich and multisided expression to some people I know.
*shrugs* Yeah. The most striking example of that was the Dance of Death album. A sorry excuse of a Maiden album...I personally have enjoyed the post-reunion albums immensely, and found a lot of variation there, even breaking the admittedly narrow Maiden-formula here and there. Who would have thought of slide guitars or an acoustic song on a Maiden album in 1985?
But to each his own. That's just my :2c:
Warrior of the World Wed, 24th May '06, 2:43pm I think I have just added Ensiferum to my list of favourite bands. Unfortunately, it has made The Gods Made Heavy Metal feel slow.
Mesmero Wed, 24th May '06, 3:59pm John Lee Hooker rules :thumb: But, Harbs, why did you buy Blues Legend? Besides 'Boom Boom' there are none of his legendary songs on it. There should be far better compilation albums available.
Arabwel Wed, 24th May '06, 4:25pm this whole ESC thing had me dig out my old Lordi albums...s till think get heavy is the best one. Devil is a Loser and Would You Love A Monsterman are just plain awesome :D
Undertaker Wed, 24th May '06, 6:56pm I'm REALLY spending too much money on new albums!
Harbourboy Wed, 24th May '06, 8:40pm But, Harbs, why did you buy Blues Legend? Um, because it was cheap.........
Cúchulainn Thu, 25th May '06, 9:32am I get my albums from Russia, so I pay very little.
HMV price - £15
Russian price - £4
The only issues with the albums are that they have printed on them "Not to be sold outside of Russian Federation blah blah blah", but sometimes they have Russian only bonus tracks.
Saber Thu, 25th May '06, 9:33pm Well, if you buy them while you are in Russia, then who cares if you take them out :p
Arabwel Fri, 26th May '06, 1:02am /me resists the urge to badger Cúchulainn into bringing some Dima Bilan for her
i swear, this guy is addicting. I have no idea what the hell his songs say, and the ones I can actually understand are kind of gibberishly, but... he is just awesome :D
Kitrax Fri, 26th May '06, 1:39am its me, my girlfriend, and my best friend. Can I be your best friend? :p :shake:
There's a Def Leppard/Journey concert comming to the SLC area this August. My fiance wants me to take her to it...I'm still undecided. :bad: :rolling:
Saber Fri, 26th May '06, 2:31am Hah, Kit, sure, as long as you bring cookies. No cookies, no friend...
I didn't get to listen to music today! I left my iPod and headphones at home... oh well, there's always tomorrow.
 Taylor Hicks won American Idol. If only he could sing.
That show sucks donkeyballs, but it is annoying when 62.5 million people pick someone who sucks more donkeyballs than the actual show.
Cúchulainn Fri, 26th May '06, 5:27pm If the price is right, go for it Kitrax, I am sure they will play all the classic songs
Arabwel Fri, 26th May '06, 6:23pm I am going to see Lordi live on June 9th! :D :D :D
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 26th May '06, 6:26pm Wow another Sigh fan! Instead of highjacking the other thread, let's post that here!
Yeah, Sigh pwns! Have you listened to "Gallows Gallery", their new album? I heard it's good.
Cúchulainn Fri, 26th May '06, 10:10pm Yes its very good, but I prefer 'Imaginary Sonicscape'. To be fair, I only got Gallows Gallary a few days ago, so its still growing on me.
Sigh are one of the many reasons that I never get bored of heavy metal. They keep doing something fresh and different each album, like Solefald!
One the 6 June 06 I am going to N.Ireland's first metal festival. Nevermore are headlinging with a band called Devildriver. I heard that DD is the guy from Coalchambers new band, so I don't have great hopes, but I will keep an open mind. If they do turn out to be crap, than it gives me a chance to get a few
Saber Fri, 26th May '06, 11:24pm Devildriver is crap. I saw them, and they just sounded... bleh.
Undertaker Sat, 27th May '06, 8:44am My neighbours are planning to have a barbacue in the backyard. I think I'll provide them with proper music
Any suggestions?
Saber Sun, 28th May '06, 12:09am Tough Guy Hardcore will make anybody hate you... so go with that :D
And incase you guys didn't notice, I updated the MBP History... Undertaker, I overtook you in the standings... you dissapoint me.
;)
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 28th May '06, 12:13am Yes its very good, but I prefer 'Imaginary Sonicscape'. To be fair, I only got Gallows Gallary a few days ago, so its still growing on me.
Sigh are one of the many reasons that I never get bored of heavy metal. They keep doing something fresh and different each album, like Solefald! True, true. I'm more into the early Sigh (Scorn Defeat, Infidel Art, Ghastly Funeral Theatre, Hail Horror Hail), but yeah, it's refreshing that they dish out something different, and never stagnate. I just hope that Mirai's time-killing in Necrophagia won't mean the end of the band.
Arabwel Sun, 28th May '06, 1:20am So, guys, since you are expertsa on rock concerts and such - what sort of shoes should I wear if I want to be able to walk afterwards? :D
and more on topic, I really should listen to more Heather Alexander. I forget how gorgeous her voice is.
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 28th May '06, 1:31am So, guys, since you are expertsa on rock concerts and such - what sort of shoes should I wear if I want to be able to walk afterwards? Without a doubt, Shelly's Rangers. (http://www.boots4all.com/index2a.htm)
Mine are the 14 eyelets blue rub-off ones, and I've had those for years, and I will buy a new pair anytime soon. I have been having my eyes on Tredair's 14-eyelets, burgundy rub-off ones. They're plain gorgeous.
Arabwel Sun, 28th May '06, 1:59am /me wipes drool off the keyboard
Wish I could afford a pair of those.... too bad I canpt. :( Right now I am contemplating wearing my chunky-heeled boots but have no idea if my feet could take it...
Saber Sun, 28th May '06, 2:01am Nothing open-toed... if you do, you will probably lose most of your toes.
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 28th May '06, 4:12am My neighbours are planning to have a barbacue in the backyard. I think I'll provide them with proper music [demonic]
Any suggestions? One word: Abruptum.
Kitrax Sun, 28th May '06, 6:38am Well...the library has almost added RHCP's "Stadium Arcadium" to the system...they will be adding 22 copies, and so far there are 59 hold requests (I'm #59  ). You are allowed to have a CD for 3 weeks, and at this rate, I have to wait for 37 people after the initial 22 get the first copies...which means I'll get my hands on the album in about 3 to 4 months if everyone keeps the CD for less than 3 weeks each. :bang:
I had to return their 'Greatest Hits' CD today, and 6 out of the 8 songs I liked were so badly scratched that I am going to have to re-check out the CD and hope for a better copy. :grr:
Oh well... :rolling:
Undertaker Sun, 28th May '06, 10:10am @DotW: sorry, I don't own any of their albums
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 28th May '06, 7:23pm @DotW: sorry, I don't own any of their albums WHAT!?!?
/me pokes Undertaker with De Profundis Mors Vars Consumet
Go buy it already!!!
Saber Sun, 28th May '06, 8:37pm had to return their 'Greatest Hits' CD todayOne of their best songs is Save the Population, which wasn't released until Greatest Hits... I love that song.
Harbourboy Sun, 28th May '06, 8:54pm You are allowed to have a CD for 3 weeks Bah, that's tough. At our library, you are only allowed CDs for one week, so everybody gets a turn. Although our library would never have 22 (!) copies of any CD. I doubt they have more than 2 of any CD.
Saber Sun, 28th May '06, 11:06pm I think he goes to a huge public library... my libraries would not have more than 2 of any CD either.
Cúchulainn Mon, 29th May '06, 9:50am The early Sigh songs are great, especially "At my funeral". I am currently putting a band together and this would be a great song to cover.
On Saturday afternoon I had a little fun re-working some Moonsorrow Waylander and Einherjer songs into tinwhistle, bodhrán, button accordian and bouzouki. All I need to do is find a harp and Uilleann bagpipe player.
Its pure  to see old grannies clapping away to Köyliönjärven Jäällä
kuemper Mon, 29th May '06, 6:55pm I realized how much like Autograph Def Leppard sounds.
Cúchulainn Tue, 30th May '06, 1:08pm Was Steve Plunkett in Autograph? I have one of his solo album's that has the (excellent) song 'My Attitude'.
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 30th May '06, 6:52pm The early Sigh songs are great, especially "At my funeral". Hell yeah!
Zyklon day today, kiddies. All three albums are in my stereo, so nearly 3 hours of pure scorching noise...
Susipaisti Tue, 30th May '06, 8:07pm I have a chance to see Down live soon. I think I'll go for it.
Arabwel Wed, 31st May '06, 7:00am I can't wait for the concert.. i am already bouncehappy about it. and am glad that I got my tickets when i did, they are being sold out real fast...
The two songs I wanna hear really bad are Deqadite Girls Gone Wild and Who's your daddy :D
and I will be wearing something quite like there (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v214/Arabwel/GringoGentsAnkleImitStrap.jpg) ;D
Cúchulainn Wed, 31st May '06, 9:00am I have a pair of those boots. I always called them my 'hobnails'
Undertaker Wed, 31st May '06, 10:11pm @DotW: I don't plan to buy any new album right now :p
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 1st Jun '06, 1:57am Nothing like the burgundy 14-eyelets Tredair on Boots4all... my own Rangers are getting pretty old... stashing my dough to get them, they're too damn gorgeous.
Enough off-topic now.
Undertaker, BLAH! Get the damn album! Your neighbors will turn insane after two songs...
Undertaker Thu, 1st Jun '06, 7:18am You mean there are more then 2 songs on their albums :p :p :p ?
Kitrax Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 12:20am Bah, that's tough. At our library, you are only allowed CDs for one week, so everybody gets a turn. Although our library would never have 22 (!) copies of any CD. I doubt they have more than 2 of any CD. That sucks. :(
I think he goes to a huge public library... my libraries would not have more than 2 of any CD either. Exactly! I'm a member of the 'Salt Lake County Library System' (http://www.slco.lib.ut.us) . There are 19 different libraries with in the Salt Lake County, and though each library may only have 1 or 2 copies of any item, they transfer books, CDs, DVDs, and just about anything else you can check out between all the locations on a daily basis. If there's something you want, and it's checked in, but it's at a library that's 20 miles away, put it on hold, and it'll will be transferred to the nearest library that you choose within two days or so. :thumb:
It's good to live in the suburbs of a large city! :thumb:
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 12:23am You mean there are more then 2 songs on their albums?Actually, there is one album (I forgot the title) on which there is only one 61 minutes (!!!) song.
Susipaisti Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 12:35am That's even worse than Edge of Sanity's Crimson, which apparently lasts about 40 minutes.
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 2nd Jun '06, 3:05am IIRC, the Abruptum one is a tie with Green Carnation's Light of Day, Day of Darkness, which is also a one-song album.
Kitrax Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 1:02am Hmmm...anyone here like Lamb of God?
One of my co-workers said they are really good, and that I should give them a listen. I've never heard them before, and I don't even know what kind of metal they are... :rolling:
Saber Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 4:08am They have one great CD - As the Palaces Burn. The other stuff is alright, but not great. Check out that CD first.
Arabwel Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 6:41am i will be seeing Lordi live on Halloween, too!
Saber Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 4:49pm Nice :)
Kitrax, As the Palaces Burn is thrash. I'm not sure about the rest of LoG's stuff.
Undertaker Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 4:58pm LoG is...nice
Saber Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 6:00pm Was that a sarcastic nice, or an actual nice?
Undertaker Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 8:21pm Something in between :p
Disciple of The Watch Sat, 3rd Jun '06, 8:35pm Just listened to the new Celtic Frost album... not bad.
The new Sodom album kicks some serious butt!
Harbourboy Sun, 4th Jun '06, 11:06am I saw a System of a Down video on a pop music TV show today. Does that mean that they are now too "commercial" and "mainstream", so some of you won't like them any more? And just what is "a Down" anyway? I'm sure that name makes no sense.
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 4th Jun '06, 10:37pm I saw a System of a Down video on a pop music TV show today. Does that mean that they are now too "commercial" and "mainstream", so some of you won't like them any more? And just what is "a Down" anyway? I'm sure that name makes no sense. /me pokes Caveboy with a 20-foot pole
System of a Down always was commercial crap. I never liked them. And you're right, Harby, the name makes no sense whatsoever - just like them.
Morgoth Sun, 4th Jun '06, 11:44pm I like their first album, that one is golden, definitely not mainstream: PLUCK (http://84.19.180.52/downloads/radio/?autoplay=7)
Saber Mon, 5th Jun '06, 5:02am System of a Down did sell out... their new stuff sounds nothing like their old stuff, which might have been able to pass as alright. I heard their new stuff and the only reason I could tell it was them was because at one point his voice sounded like it used to.
Arabwel Mon, 5th Jun '06, 10:04am I just founfd out that Dima Bilan got signed up byy BMG... I hoe this means there's gonna be an album in English from him - as fun as listenin g to Russian pop is, I would LOVE toactually understand waht he is signing about.
And I also hope whoever writes the lyrics has a better grasp of the English language as the ones whop did Never let you go and Girlfriend.
Cúchulainn Mon, 5th Jun '06, 3:27pm I like some songs where they mess up the English language:
Sodom - "Masterbate to kill yourself"
Destruction - "Blood the oil, our greasy sky" (or something along those lines)
Stratovarius "I am a dust in the wind"
or strange pronounciations:
Korpiklaani - "wild-der-ness" (wilderness)
Cadaveria - "fu-near-ee-al" (funeral)
all florida death metal bands "toi-mmmmm" (time)
most bands from South Ireland - replace any "th" words with just a "t" so "thrash" becomes "trash", "thursday" becomes "torsday"
The worst are all those rap bands, and English is their first language!
Kitrax Mon, 5th Jun '06, 11:16pm I saw a System of a Down video on a pop music TV show today. Does that mean that they are now too "commercial" and "mainstream", so some of you won't like them any more? And just what is "a Down" anyway? I'm sure that name makes no sense. SoaD is, was, and always will be crap! :toofar:
Their crummy new song 'Lonely Day' has a grand total of one sentence for lyrics, and just like my other "most hated" band, The Foo Fighters, they repeat the same stupid lines over, and over. :bang: Count how many times the FF scream, "the best!"...and while you're at it, count how many times SoaD whines, "Such a lonely day...". :nono:
It's all about *quality*, not quantity. :thumb: :rolling:

Saber Mon, 5th Jun '06, 11:24pm The Foo Fighters were good with their old album... I liked 'Learning to Fly' by them. But their new stuff is crap. Especially since it is always on the radio. Damn "No Way Back From Hell"... I hate that song.
Cúchulainn Tue, 6th Jun '06, 3:55pm I don't think SOAD were a metal band anyway. Some idiots call them ethnic rock
To me they are just a standard rock band, who cannot get through an interview without mentioning they are Armenian (even though they are American).
Still, some idiots have said there was a link between SOAD and 11 September because we all know that all terrorists are Middle-Eastern
Aikanaro Wed, 7th Jun '06, 10:55am I just listened to the Tiananmen Square version of Faith by The Cure (in all its bootlegged glory...). Very oomphy.
'This is for everyone that died today in China.'
Cúchulainn Thu, 8th Jun '06, 11:14am The new Celtic Frost album is excellent. I was scared it would be another half-arsed comeback album from a bunch of ancient rockers, but they proved me wrong :thumb:
Arabwel Thu, 8th Jun '06, 6:04pm Less than 24 hours till I get to see Lordi, wheee!
'
i have never even heard of wither one of the warmup acts, but I figure they can't be too bad.... I hope. :D
Iku-Turso Thu, 8th Jun '06, 6:18pm Oh, lordy, you're going to see Lordi?
Saw them when they had this HUGE gig right here in Helsinki, when we were celebrating our first Eurovision song contest victory.
I'm not a fan or anything, but they sounded great in front of an audience of at least 60 000 people. :D
Arabwel Thu, 8th Jun '06, 6:37pm I envy you, Iku-Turso.... I wanted to be there!
adn you're a bit low there. there was more thank 80 000 people there :D
and yes, I am going to see Lordi at rovaniemi :D
Iku-Turso Thu, 8th Jun '06, 6:48pm Whee! So you're finnish, or at least in Finland currently! Congrats! :D
And some estimated that there were something like 100 000 people, but I thought that estimating it at least to 60 000 would be on the safe side.
By the way, if you're from Lapin lääni, I salute and thank you for voting Lordi into the contest in the first place!
Arabwel Thu, 8th Jun '06, 7:05pm Finnish, born and bred. and not that far North - in the biggesst small town in the country :p
and to make this more OT, I wish the next ESC would be in Rovaniemi and that Dima Bilan would participate again. cause, you know, I would SO stalk him :D
Iku-Turso Thu, 8th Jun '06, 7:14pm Tsch! :hahaerr:
Arabwel Thu, 8th Jun '06, 7:19pm Cooome opn, don't teöö me htat you wouldnät if you were appropriately oriented! THat boy is PRETTY! :p
Harbourboy Thu, 8th Jun '06, 9:22pm Further to what I said last week about having bought my first CD in 3 years, I have now bought 7 in the last week. For anyone who is interested, they have been:
1) John Lee Hooker - "Blues Legend"
2) Alanis Morissette - "Now is the Time"
3) KT Tunstall - "Eye to the Telescope"
4) Alanis Morissette - "Alanis"
5) Hayley Westenra - "My Gift to You"
6) Coldplay - "Parachutes"
7) Heather Nova - "Siren"
Lots of new food for iTunes.
kuemper Fri, 9th Jun '06, 12:24am The radio dj back announces songs I know. Why don't they do that for songs I don't know?
Saber Fri, 9th Jun '06, 1:59am COLDPLAY? HB, you dissapoint! Coldplay is terrible! Every song is exactly the same, and they are all awful! Some say they are the new U2, and I slap all of those people. How dare they insult U2 by implying that Coldplay is similar to them in any way! U2=good, Coldplay= donkeyballssuckers
In other news, Pink Floyd rocks.
Harbourboy Fri, 9th Jun '06, 3:03am I agree that many of Coldplay's songs do sound similar to each other, hence the reason why I only paid $7 for that CD from TradeMe. I wouldn't pay full price for a Coldplay CD, but "Parachutes" has a few good songs on it.
kuemper Fri, 9th Jun '06, 4:59am Coldplay isn't bad but Chris Martin has lost all his credibility when he allowed his kid to be named Apple. :nono:
Harbourboy Fri, 9th Jun '06, 5:06am That's not as bad as Shiloh Pitt. That's a shocker. A complete pile o'......
Arabwel Fri, 9th Jun '06, 6:43am Heee, 12 hours till Lordi!
Pseudospawn Fri, 9th Jun '06, 10:23am **tuts @ Lordi** 1 pop song with a catchy beat and people seem willing to forget that most every other song they've made sucks. Sure i voted for them at Eurovision and was glad they won, but my tongue was firmly in cheek when they were interviewed or performed.
Spend your money on some actual Finnish Death Metal instead of that 80's style pop rubbish.
Undertaker Fri, 9th Jun '06, 7:03pm Finally! I got my own copy of new Celtic Frost album
Iku-Turso Fri, 9th Jun '06, 10:28pm Cooome opn, don't teöö me htat you wouldnät if you were appropriately oriented! THat boy is PRETTY!Uh, well, I guess so, but I'm heavily against endorsing mullets.
edit: And Pseudospawn, you're forgetting that you're talking about the latest national pride in Finland here. It's not just the music, it's that Lordi gave us our first ESC victory. And who knows, maybe Ara's a fanatic Children of Bodom fan?
Arabwel Sat, 10th Jun '06, 4:11pm Alas, no. CoB is not one of my favortites... Nightweish, too.
also, I am absolutely shameless about the fact tghat I listen to Britney Spears - so no one is going to make my musical taste go anywhere.
As for the gig... oh dear GOD; there was.... OH. I practically died there... Am still pissed that was about 2 people fromt he banniester thanks to my host getting us lost and arriving late.
I even got showered in sparks from the pyros :D
Lordi is awesome on stage - they are awesome anyweay, but ons tage? OMG. and not just the pyros. they.. there's no words how they take everything over. it was practically hypnotic.
the amusing part of the evening was hearing two teenage girls talk about their favorite osongs. one of them named Devil is a Loser her favorite, and then added: "But who the f*** is Gene Simmons?"
'
O tempora, o more...
Iku-Turso Sat, 10th Jun '06, 6:53pm Cough, cough...You're listening to WHAT? :outta:
To each their own...oh well.
Not a fan of CoB either, my nick for them is "Children of Boredom". Sorry. But no matter how talented musicians they would be, my opinion is that they should either be a) groundbreaking and innovative, in the sense that they would search for new ways in making that type of music - or b) appeal to my sense of harmonious melody.
They do neither. But mostly this is because I've not ventured much into that particular field of music with any great interest or for a longer duration of time.
Disciple of The Watch Sat, 10th Jun '06, 7:31pm "Children of Boredom" I'll have to remember that one.
I'm currently listening to an underground grindcore (think death metal on speed) talent from the south shore of Quebec... in fact, we used to play shows with those guys back in the days... I'm glad to see them still going... and still are as brutal. [Insert headbanging smiley here]
Arabwel Sat, 10th Jun '06, 7:37pm You heard that right. Britney Spears. Also Enrique Iglesias, the Spice Gurls, Christina Aquilaera, Shakira, the Backstreet Boys..... do I need to go on?
And yeah, those arte ont he same playulist as Nightwish, Lordi, Dimmu Borgir, AC/DC and a LOT of other stuff. I am omnivorous :D
Disciple of The Watch Sat, 10th Jun '06, 7:43pm Dimmu BorgirBlech! Demon Burger sucks!
Iku-Turso Sat, 10th Jun '06, 10:30pm I'm actually thinking of buying Juanes' latest album. I kind of liked La Camisa Negra, Volverte a Ver and Rosario Tijeras.
My rule concerning buying records is that if an album has at least 3 songs that I like, I start considering of buying it.
I consider myself to be omnivorous when it comes to music, but...there are limitations...it's not like anything goes, but I do agree that you can get used to, and even learn to like any kind of music if listened to frequently enough. (edit: That's how I started to like metal as well.)
So as for this moment I detest Britney Spears, I consider it possible that I might some day even like it. It's just one of those 'when hell freezes over' -type of situations, or the chances of that happening are just about the same as the chances of survival of a paper mouse in hell while chased by asbestos cats.
It's not the music per se I dislike, it's the persona an the industry behind it I strongly disagree with. It's so sad when non-musical attributes affect someones taste for music, but that's just me...
Arabwel Sun, 11th Jun '06, 4:52pm Incidentally, talking about the Lordi condert is the only time I have bneen able to use the phrase "You could barely hear the buzzsaw over the music" :D
Harbourboy Sun, 11th Jun '06, 8:03pm What is this Lordi thing you keep going on about?
Undertaker Sun, 11th Jun '06, 8:09pm They won this years Eurovision, a song contest you probably never heard about :p
Arabwel Sun, 11th Jun '06, 9:10pm www.Lordi.org (http://www.Lordi.org) - 5 guys (ok, 4 guys and a chim) in monster costumes who play heavy rock with a serious horror theme
I am rather sad that I won't be seeing them live again until October :(
Harbourboy Sun, 11th Jun '06, 9:37pm Monster costumes? Oh dear. What's a chim?
Undertaker Sun, 11th Jun '06, 9:41pm In fact they are Kiss of 21st Century :p
Arabwel Sun, 11th Jun '06, 10:12pm *chick. 4 guys and a chick. or more like a mummy (amen, guitar), an undead sorceress (Awa, keyboardas), a bulltaur (oX, bass) , an alien (Kita, drums) and of course the esteemable no one knows what the hell he is Mr. Lordi :D
@Undertaker: that they are... they are alos going to throw a promo gig in the US with KISS. it is awesome cause Mr. Lodi is a HUGE KISS fan, and they even mention Gene Simmons in one of their songs :D
Undertaker Sun, 11th Jun '06, 10:54pm Why am I not suprized :p
Saber Mon, 12th Jun '06, 12:45am Ah, that reminds me of GWAR. (http://gwar.net/?q=node/106) They sucked. Majorly. I think I already described them here once...
Susipaisti Mon, 12th Jun '06, 5:50pm Down seriously whopped ass. Marvellous, brilliant. The best concert in a long time. Uncle Phil likes his red wine, but it only affects his speeches between songs - not his singing. That's being a real pro.
I saw them on the 8th. No, it didn't take me this long to recover, I had technical problems.
Undertaker Mon, 12th Jun '06, 10:49pm The new Celtic Frost album (first since 1990! ) kicks ass! :D
Saber Mon, 12th Jun '06, 11:10pm Woah, first album in 16 years? What happened?
Harbourboy Mon, 12th Jun '06, 11:20pm Suisipasti - what are you talking about? I don't understand a word of that post.
Susipaisti Tue, 13th Jun '06, 12:06am I mean I saw a band called Down on the 8th of June, and it was a great gig. The singer was drunk, but he is so good that it didn't hamper his singing.
Faye Tue, 13th Jun '06, 12:08am Gabriela Robin. People need to listen to her. Now.
Her songs are mostly made up of nonsensical lyrics (lyrics that don't mean anything/made up from a language created by the writer) that range to truly bizzare (Cats on Mars) to beautiful (Moon, Grace).
Kitrax Tue, 13th Jun '06, 12:24am A good rock band needs to be drunk, stoned, or have some sort of an altered state to be good on stage! :p
!order :headbang: smiliey... :thumb: :rolling:
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 13th Jun '06, 4:03am A good rock band needs to be drunk, stoned, or have some sort of an altered state to be good on stage! [Razz] Ha! Then our shows must have totally pwned because I can't remember doing any single show NOT stoned. MJ makes death vocals easier.
:hippy: (even though I'm an ex-stoner) :headbang:
Cúchulainn Tue, 13th Jun '06, 9:09am Dave Mustaine certainly needs to lighten up. The last time I seen Megadeth live I was not exactly 'blown away' as every single member appeared to be glued to the stage. I really like Megadeth, but I don't think I will see them live ever again.
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 13th Jun '06, 6:26pm Dave Mustaine certainly needs to lighten up. *shrugs* Mustaine is Mustaine, dude. If he'd get all bouncy on the state and be über-happy I'd burn my Megadeth CDs. I personally prefer a pissed-off, dark looking and sarcastic Mustaine. How he answered to the guy who annoyed him with a laser pointer during a show was simply hilarious. Go Dave!
Here's a few hilarious quotes I heard:
- “If you guys are going to be throwing beer bottles at us, at least make sure they're full.”
- “In our ‘life’ there is ‘if’
In our ‘beliefs’ there is ‘lie’
In our ‘business’ there is ‘sin’
In our ‘bodies’ there is ‘DIE’”
- "I see you have a laser, you little ********. Oh I saved all my allowances from mommy so I can buy a laser and shine it at Dave. Now, how about you be cool so the people here won't have to beat your ****ing brains in? Thank you."

Cúchulainn Wed, 14th Jun '06, 10:39am The best concert I have ever witnessed was Judas Priest/Scorpions in the Odyssey Arena, Belfast. It seemed like an unusual combination, but it worked out great! These guys know how to entertain, and they have excellent songs to back up the stage shows (unlike Gwar).
I am still kicking myself for missing WASP in Dublin.
Harbourboy Wed, 14th Jun '06, 10:43am Hmm, playing around with my 'equaliser'. No idea how to get the right combination.
BOC Wed, 14th Jun '06, 12:41pm I am still kicking myself for missing WASP in Dublin Hehe, I'm going to see W.A.S.P. (again) in one month along with Twisted Sister and Crimson Glory. Celtic Frost and Moonspell play in the same festival too, but I can't stand them so I must find something to kill time when they will be on stage and beer drinking is not an available option because I'll have to drive after the concert.
Cúchulainn Wed, 14th Jun '06, 1:58pm That sounds like an excellent festival, but I have no idea who Crimson Glory are.
Its a shame that you cannot have a few
BOC Wed, 14th Jun '06, 2:20pm Crimson Glory are one of the best american power metal bands of 80s. Their first two albums, "Crimson Glory" and "Transcendence", are classics. My recommendation to you is to buy these two albums, I guarantee that you will not regret it.

Cúchulainn Wed, 14th Jun '06, 4:46pm If they are as good as Riot and Virgin Steele, I will definately check them out.
Saber Wed, 14th Jun '06, 9:46pm What is Dragonforce's best album, if they are worth listening to?
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 15th Jun '06, 1:38am What is Dragonforce's best album, if they are worth listening to? Sonic Firestorm, without the shadow of a doubt.
Saber Thu, 15th Jun '06, 3:45am Have you heard their new album, Inhumane Rampage?
Cúchulainn Thu, 15th Jun '06, 9:20am They (DragonForce) put on a good show, but there is something about their albums that I don't like. I would rather listen to Gamma Ray, Hammerfall, Rhapsody and Luca Turilli.
Pseudospawn Thu, 15th Jun '06, 10:11am Dragonforce's best and only worthwile album was Valley of the Damned.
I'm just not a big fan of 'wank-metal' like Dragonforce so its no suprise that in the two times i've been able to see them i was sorely unimpressed. That sort of sound is amusing if you're the one playing it but they're no fun to watch and the music sounds hollow.
Arabwel Thu, 15th Jun '06, 12:08pm I am greatly looking forward to getting my hands on Vaadimme Metallia by Teräsbetoni.. the fisrt single, Älä Mene Metsään is pretty awesome so i am definitely eager to hear more :D
Saber Thu, 15th Jun '06, 7:23pm DotW, how about Dark Tranquility? I know you like them, what is their best stuff?
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 15th Jun '06, 8:20pm DotW, how about Dark Tranquility? I know you like them, what is their best stuff? Oh ****, good question, it's been AGES since I last listened to them... ehh... IIRC, the first three albums and two EP are the best. I lost interest in them when they released Projector, and I haven't bothered listening to any of the new stuff.
A special mention to the song "Insanity's Crescendo", however. It whips serious butts, and the clean singing is... haunting.
Cúchulainn Fri, 16th Jun '06, 9:09am Yes DT are much better than Inflames.
Hey DoTW, are you a fan of Dragonheart? Its strange to see Eric outside of Testament.
Pseudospawn Fri, 16th Jun '06, 10:26am When did people all of a sudden start hating In Flames?
It's bad enough they're now being called nu-metal, at least theyre had the initative to change & develop their sound over the past decade then stay in the same rut as most every other metal band.
Arabwel Fri, 16th Jun '06, 6:08pm So, how many of you resident metalheads are really into extreme (http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/columns/genres_battles/101_rules_for_extreme_metal.html)? :D
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 16th Jun '06, 6:35pm Hey DoTW, are you a fan of Dragonheart? Its strange to see Eric outside of Testament. Yes! I definitively dig Dragonheart. Peterson's a surprisingly good vocalist, I must say. I haven't had a chance to listen to the second album, but Rapture kicked solid ass, especially the songs "Wolfhunt" and "Spirits In The Mist", with Darkane's ex-vocalist as guest... it's too damn good.
When did people all of a sudden start hating In Flames? Hmm, let's see. When they began taking a commercial path and ended up releasing crap album after the other, and when they began calling fans of their early stuff poseurs, that's when.
Saber Fri, 16th Jun '06, 6:38pm They aren't nu-metal, they are still the same type of music, even though each album sounds different. I like their newest album, although it is not as good as Clayman. I am listening to Reroute to Remain right now, and it is alright.
Disciple of The Watch Sat, 17th Jun '06, 6:29am I like their newest album, although it is not as good as Clayman. I am listening to Reroute to Remain right now, and it is alright. Let me put it this way: Everything after The Jester Race sucks donkey balls. In fact it sucks SO bad I played freesbee with my friend's dog with the Whoracle album. He even dished in his own copy of Clayman once the dog was through with Whoracle.
In Flames sucks. Get the point.
Now, on a different note. Undertaker, you were right, the new Celtic Frost album really pwns. Did you got to listen to the new Sodom album? Unbelieva****ingble. :headbang:
Pseudospawn Sat, 17th Jun '06, 7:13am DotW i hate to be the one to break this to you, but Celtic Frost suck.
Not just suck as in they're bad, suck like fat kids at sport, suck like the elderly at controlling bodily functions.
I think its right to compare them to bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth. They deserve to be grouped with the other pied-pipers of metal. Those now talent-less has-beens that are destroying the genre they created.
Disciple of The Watch Sat, 17th Jun '06, 7:16am DotW i hate to be the one to break this to you, but Celtic Frost suck. *shrugs* I'm actually listening to To Mega Therion as I'm typing this.
I hate In Flames, you hate Celtic Frost, our tastes differ, and that's mighty fine with me.
Undertaker Sat, 17th Jun '06, 4:59pm @DotW: nope, I wasn't able to listent to that album yet (to be sure I don't own it yet :o )
So off I go to listen to Celtic Frost's new album \m/(><)\m/
Morgoth Sat, 17th Jun '06, 8:05pm Yaay
Just got the latest Tool and RHCP albums, much happiness here :D
Daie d'Malkin Sat, 17th Jun '06, 11:09pm Nah, Jester Race is teh best, but WHoracle and Clayman are good. The new one is good too. The others suck though.
Undertaker Sat, 17th Jun '06, 11:59pm Igor Cavalera has left Sepultura :( :( :(
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 18th Jun '06, 12:54am Igor Cavalera has left Sepultura About damn time. The new Sepultura is crap.
Saber Sun, 18th Jun '06, 11:23pm Was their new CD (Dante XVII, or something like that?) any good?
And I don't think we should say certain bands suck, because if someone likes them, they can't really suck, but we can say we don't like them. Except for emo, rap, and hiphop. All of those actually suck donkeydick.
Cúchulainn Mon, 19th Jun '06, 3:13pm Igor finally seen the light, however Andre is a lost cause...
Does anyone know any good industrial bands? I like some industrial tinged black and death metal bands, but I never liked Stabbing Westward or NIN.
Undertaker Mon, 19th Jun '06, 4:13pm Rammstein is industrial :p
As for other good industrial bands: Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, late Samael and Theatre Of Tragedy
You might also like The Kovenant
Cúchulainn Mon, 19th Jun '06, 5:29pm I do have 'Anamatronic' and 'Nexus' (when they were Covenant) - excellent albums. But are these bands pure industrial, or they just industrial rock/metal?
Undertaker Mon, 19th Jun '06, 6:49pm The only pure industrial bands mentioned are Fear Factory, Rammstein and SYL.
Saber Mon, 19th Jun '06, 7:18pm Strapping Young Lad... hahahaha!
I saw them in concert... its 3 45 year old guys  (or it looked that way), and they did not do a good job at all. I don't know how they sound on a CD, but they were terrible live.
Harbourboy Mon, 19th Jun '06, 9:33pm Cool - my 1991 Alanis CD that I bought from some guy in Ontario off eBay just arrived. God bless international online auction sites. You can find anything, even out-of-production items like that.
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 20th Jun '06, 5:49am its 3 45 year old guys Gene Hoglan is an excellent drummer, dude. His work in Dark Angel simply pwns.
Cúchulainn Tue, 20th Jun '06, 9:39am I just got Sky Dancer by Dark Tranquility, and I am not very impressed. I thought it would be 'folky' like the first few Inflames albums. Hopefully its a 'grower'.
Undertaker Tue, 20th Jun '06, 8:05pm Gene Hogland is one of the best drummers ever. I just loved his drumwork on Death's Individual Through Patterns and Symbolic albums :D
Arabwel Tue, 20th Jun '06, 8:28pm So I jsut got my first-ever music DVD.
the official Eurovision one.
Daie d'Malkin Tue, 20th Jun '06, 9:32pm I had it taped for me, isnce I was in London at the theatre at the time
Shaitan Tue, 20th Jun '06, 9:39pm  eurovision on DVD... Arabwel you sure have some humor.
I just heard Ænema by Tool. Sooo good!
Undertaker Tue, 20th Jun '06, 10:26pm I don't know what kind of evliness could be incuded on that disc
Disciple of The Watch Wed, 21st Jun '06, 1:17am Gene Hogland is one of the best drummers ever. I just loved his drumwork on Death's Individual Through Patterns and Symbolic albums Indeed.
Cúchulainn Wed, 21st Jun '06, 2:27pm I was just listening a few early Kiss albums and I have realized that Gene Simmons is actually a really good bass player
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 12:14am Tom Angelripper is also an excellent bass player.
Shaitan Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 3:44am I'm going to watch Joe Satriani tuesday! Thats ought to be fun - and good I hope, never seen hime live before.
Undertaker Thu, 22nd Jun '06, 9:38pm Brutal death metal concert tomorrow! :D Lot's of headbanging, beer and growls. Yeah!
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 2:01am Currently listening to the new Sodom album. It truly kicks ass... I *really* got to refresh the songs on my mp3 player and drop it in...
Harbourboy Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 2:19am I update the songs on my iPod Shuffle on a daily basis.
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 3:23am iPod Shuffle iPod=crap. I'll stick with my Creative MuVo, thank you very much.
Harbourboy Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 3:47am My iPod Shuffle is great.
Cúchulainn Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 9:04am I wouldn't trade my Creative Zen for 1000 iPod's.
Arabwel Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 1:40pm I am vaguely content with my cheap-ass, no-idea-what-its-make-is, came-as-a-freebie MP3 player :D
Cúchulainn Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 2:25pm Its probably still much better than an Ipod
Arabwel Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 3:08pm Oh, quite definitely :D
iPods make pod people!
Undertaker Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 6:00pm I'm still in the ancient era of CDs :p Yay for original albums
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 23rd Jun '06, 10:23pm Its probably still much better than an Ipod I wouldn't trade my Creative Zen for 1000 iPod's. You got a Zen? I wanted to get that one to, but my budget only allowed the cheaper, 512MB flash memory MuVo... still, it performs pretty well, and doesen't convert songs into some weird format like the ipod does. And I wouldn't trade my MuVo for 100000000 iPods.
Harbourboy Sat, 24th Jun '06, 12:48am My iPod works perfectly and there is nothing wrong with it. Some of you guys are really snobby about whatever happens to be popular or bestselling. Apple sucks because its popular. Microsoft sucks because its popular. Pop music sucks because its popular. Brazil soccer team sucks because they're popular. Talk about tall poppy syndrome.
Disciple of The Watch Sat, 24th Jun '06, 1:11am Apple sucks because its popular. Microsoft sucks because its popular. Pop music sucks because its popular. Brazil soccer team sucks because they're popular. Talk about tall poppy syndrome./me grabs a can of Monster and downs it in a single gulp to calm the fcuk down
You're in no position to speak! M$ sucks because they're crap, yet, *you* remain with it because *"it works"*. Before you say we hate M$ because it's popular, why don't you try Linux, and once you tried then we'll speak. Linux completly pwns all the dung M$ ever dropped on the market!
And as for the iPod, don't get me started on this piece of trash! My bro had one and it sucked so bad the piece of trash ended it's days under work boots! The damn thing had charger problems (swapped chargers and iPods *THREE* times), and it just wouldn't gobble some songs! The iPod's bad reputation is more than deserved because it's trash.
/end of rant
Harbourboy Sat, 24th Jun '06, 1:26am Your brother's iPod may have been trash, but mine isn't. Of course I stick with things that work! I use my iPod and my Microsoft products everyday and they work fine. Other products are great too. I'm sure that Linux and Zen are great. But just because they are great doesn't make everything else junk. Anyway, getting a bit off-topic here. back to music!
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 25th Jun '06, 6:53am Hey Undertaker, heard anything regarding a new Megadeth album?
Harbs, f*** M$. Give Linux a shot.
Undertaker Sun, 25th Jun '06, 9:59am What I have heard:
-the recording is finished
-there will be 11 tracks with no titles yet
-album is to be released 31 October 2006
Arabwel Mon, 26th Jun '06, 1:24am I think my musical tastes are starting to drift towards the eighties...
Harbourboy Mon, 26th Jun '06, 3:32am Go the Eighties!
Cap'n CJ Mon, 26th Jun '06, 3:55am I'd trade my MP3 player for 1000 Ipods...
Then i'd sell the Ipods on Ebay and buy a new MP3 player ;)
Cúchulainn Mon, 26th Jun '06, 9:06am I don't know where you got the idea that I hate anything thats popular. What would be the point of that?
After 3 friends letting me know that their iPods crashed and lost all of their songs, I decided to upgrade my Sony MP3 CD player to a Creative Touch for 2 reasons:
1 It appears to be more reliable
2 I can get more space for much less.
The only thing the iPod has going for it, is that its smaller and looks better.
Hey Ara, if you like 80's you are probably familiar with the Finnish band To/Die/For? They did an excellent version of Cutting Crew's 'I just died in your arms tonight'
Undertaker Mon, 26th Jun '06, 5:44pm Eighties were golden times for heavy metal
Daie d'Malkin Mon, 26th Jun '06, 6:21pm *pauses Sisters of Mercy album*
The 80s? Best decade ever. Of course, my birth was the high point. :D
Kitrax Tue, 27th Jun '06, 4:47am I decided to upgrade my Sony MP3 CD player to a Creative Touch Good choice! :thumb:
The only thing the iPod has going for it, is that its smaller and looks better. That's only one person's opinion. I persoanlly like the more chiseled look of the Zen Sleek Photo, the Zen Micro Photo is what I will upgrade to next, and the new Zen V Plus looks pretty cool too. IMO they all look better than the iPod...but besides the fact that the iPod is smaller, they offer *way* more features and aren't constriced to iTunes. :thumb: :rolling:
Harbourboy Tue, 27th Jun '06, 7:12am Oh well, I like my iPod and you like your Zen, so everybody's happy! What a wonderful world.
Kitrax Wed, 28th Jun '06, 7:54am Your life would be a lot better if you had a Zen. :p
Speaking of Zen...I wonder if it's possible to achive a Zen like state while listening to metal... :rolling:
Undertaker Wed, 28th Jun '06, 8:11pm @Kitrax: it is possible
Disciple of The Watch Wed, 28th Jun '06, 8:21pm Your life would be a lot better if you had a Zen. [Razz] I have a MuVo Slim. Does that count?
Harbourboy Wed, 28th Jun '06, 9:45pm Your life would be a lot better if you had a Zen. No it wouldn't, because I'd be poorer.
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 29th Jun '06, 12:08am Kit, Cúchulainn... arguing with Harbs is like chasing windmills: a waste of time.
Back on topic, currently listening to some old Exodus.
Arabwel Thu, 29th Jun '06, 1:52am I have heard To/Die/FOr, and I didnöt particularly like them... *shrugs* I tend to go for specific artists that strike my fancy rahter than genres in general.
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 29th Jun '06, 10:33pm Still listening to Exodus. I can't decide who between Paul Baloff and Steve Souza is the best vocalist.
Arabwel Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 2:00am I have corrupted others into loving Lodri
I fo hope my dark master gives me a sizeable bonus for the new minions :D
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 6:54am Just got my hands on an original vinyl of Celtic Frost's "To Mega Therion" album!
Undertaker Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 9:55pm Finally I got that new Sodom album! :D It sure rocks
Shaitan Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 10:16pm You could have had mine DotW, I don't use my LPs anymore, unfortunately.
When I return home, I will listen to "Stormtroopers of Death" - "Speak English or Die" - just great - in my MuVo.

Arabwel Sun, 2nd Jul '06, 11:39pm Listening to CHildren of the Night in a dark room late at night is.... no words for it.
I hid them under the floor; for they being here made me sore
And on that day I felt kinda hazy
Now they still gotta be there, ´cos there not going anywhere
Whith severed limbs - or call me crazy?
But there are voices in the darkness
In my house every time I close my eyes...
this song is
Disciple of The Watch Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 12:56am Finally I got that new Sodom album! [Big Grin] It sure rocks Hell yeah!
Undertaker Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 5:41pm Finally Iced Earth got a new guitarist (http://www.metalstorm.ee/events/news_comments.php?news_id=2818)! :D Now all they need is a new bass player.
Me waits patiently for new album :)
Harbourboy Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 9:27pm arguing with Harbs is like chasing windmills: a waste of time. Because I'm always right? Or because I'm like Don Quixote?
I now have 1,058 songs on my iTunes. Probably not many compared to the amount of music that some of you will have, but I'll soon need a new hard drive.
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 4th Jul '06, 1:08am Because I'm always right? Or because I'm like Don Quixote? You? Always right?          Don't make me laugh, old man. No, it's rather because you're exasperating.
Listening to some old Sodom. Had forgotten how good it is.
Harbourboy Tue, 4th Jul '06, 6:28am I have just ordered:
"Under Rug Swept" by Alanis Morissette; and
"Anthology 1" by the Beatles
so they should be arriving any day now. I wonder what album I will purchase next.
Kitrax Tue, 4th Jul '06, 8:32am HB, arguing with you is like trying to explain how to use a computer to the Amish...you know by the blank stares that they don't understand a word you're saying, but for some reason, you keep talking. :skeptic:
I have some Korn, Iron Maiden, and some Slayer CDs on hold at the library. The first copies should be ready for pick up by next Monday or so... :D :rolling:
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 4th Jul '06, 8:40am HB, arguing with you is like trying to explain how to use a computer to the Amish...you know by the blank stares that they don't understand a word you're saying, but for some reason, you keep talking. [skeptical] Hehehe. The Amish would more likely describe a computer as a TV (the screen), the piano (the keyboard) and the box. :shake:
Back on topic, Sodom pwns.
in my MuVo. Another MuVo owner? Which one you got? I have the MuVo Slim 512 Mb.
Arabwel Wed, 5th Jul '06, 2:07am I wish I could be in Moscow next week... cause damn, i would love to see both Lordi and DIma Bilabn on stage at the same open air festival :D
Harbourboy Wed, 5th Jul '06, 3:16am Just ordered the 1992 Bruce Springsteen album "Human Touch" but it might take a week to show up. At least SP will get a cut because I ordered it from Fishpond.
Susipaisti Wed, 5th Jul '06, 8:16pm The track listing and artwork of the new Iron Maiden album have been announced, but of course the release date is yet to be known.
Is the Slayer EP out yet?
Undertaker Wed, 5th Jul '06, 8:25pm Up The Irons! :D
Oh btw, only one month till new Slayer album!
Arabwel Wed, 5th Jul '06, 9:50pm The artwork for the Maiden alnum is pretty damn chilling - I love the way Eddie looks compared to the others.
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 6th Jul '06, 1:21am "For The Greater Good of God"? "Lord Of Light"? WTF? Don't tell me that Maiden have turned into born-again Xtians...
Cúchulainn Thu, 6th Jul '06, 9:29am Bruce and Nico have already turned. It was only a matter of time for the rest of the band to convert...
Morgoth Thu, 6th Jul '06, 11:49am Man, got a Creative Zen Sleek Photo thingum for my bday, how am I ever going to fill 20 GB?? :D
Saber Thu, 6th Jul '06, 9:21pm Back to iPods... I am fine with mine because I can hold 5k songs (I have 3000 and still plenty of space), play them nicely (good quality), and thats that. It does what its supposed to. What I don't like is the fact that video battery life is 1.5 hours, or that is is expensive (Apple makes too much money...), or that you have to use iTunes, the biggest piece of **** ever, for it.
I haven't tried anything else yet, so I can't compare.
Mesmero Thu, 6th Jul '06, 11:21pm iTunes, the biggest piece of **** everAppearently you've never used SonicStage, the program you need to upload songs to a Sony MiniDisc player. MiniDisc is great, but SonicStage sucks donkey balls.
Harbourboy Thu, 6th Jul '06, 11:23pm The battery life on my iPod Shuffle seems almost limitless. It never ever seems to even get close to running out, or even going 'amber'.
And Mesmero is right about SonicStage. Boy, what a nightmare. I found iTunes to be much easier and practical.
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 7th Jul '06, 1:13am iTunes, the biggest piece of **** ever Indeed, it is a big piece of ****. It's evident you guys never used Creative Media Organizer. It stomps iTrash flat in terms of user friendly and ease of use.
Harbourboy Fri, 7th Jul '06, 1:20am Creative Media Organiser must do it all for you in your sleep then, because iTunes is super easy to use, even for a thicko like me.
Saber Fri, 7th Jul '06, 11:02pm But it is extremely slow, slows down the rest of my computer, forgets where my music is (its in the ****ing itunes music folder, you dumb****, right where you put it  ), and does stuff without telling me. Like making it default for music and video and ****. Gar, I wish something else worked with iPods.
Disciple of The Watch Fri, 7th Jul '06, 11:07pm Saber, you forgot that it converts your MP3s into some weird format.
Creative pwns. I will NEVER buy anything else than a Creative when it comes to MP3 players. NEVER. **** the iPod and **** iTrash.
Harbourboy Sat, 8th Jul '06, 11:50am I have never experienced any of the problems mentioned in the previous 2 posts. My iTunes always works perfectly. Maybe I have just been lucky.
Saber Sat, 8th Jul '06, 11:21pm The converting into un-mp3 format sucks...
I think they convert it to .avi or something useless like that. You should change the settings Harbs.
Disciple of The Watch Sun, 9th Jul '06, 2:03am I think they convert it to .avi or something useless like that. No, .avi is a type of movie codec, IIRC. iTrash converts it into some crap IIRC "apple audio codec" or .aac, but I'm not 100% sure.
Harbourboy Sun, 9th Jul '06, 2:51am I have no idea what it converts to. The music plays fine so I don't need to know what the technical format actually is.
Saber Sun, 9th Jul '06, 5:27am The problem with .aac is that only iTunes can use it. You can't use the music on any other media player or on any other device...
Harbourboy Sun, 9th Jul '06, 7:08am That's fine because I don't have any other music playing devices.
Kitrax Sun, 9th Jul '06, 10:53am Man, got a Creative Zen Sleek Photo thingum for my bday, how am I ever going to fill 20 GB?? :D Nice isn't it? :thumb:
I don't use the Creative MediaSource to organize my Zen Micro...I use the 'Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer' which is based on the Windows Explorer. It's super easy to use (drag and drop for the most part), and it's fast. You can move files on to and off of my Zen Micro, rip music directly on to it, create and edit playlists, and sync music and data between Outlook Express and the player. :D
And it works with .mp3 and .wmv with or without that "Play for Sure" DMR stuff...
In other music related news, I picked up two Korn CDs from the library. The first thing Jessica said when she saw them was, "Korn? Ewwww!"
And this is comming from someone who listens to Richard Marks... :rolling:
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 11th Jul '06, 1:50am Yeah, I got a couple of songs in .wma into my MuVo and it played them without any problems.
Appearantly battery life is greater when using the WMA format in 64 bits... any truth on that, Kit?
Arabwel Tue, 11th Jul '06, 7:44pm I think my friend has the coolest bass ever... she got it off eBay, and it arrived today. damn, but it is awesome... a BC Rich from the 1980s, complete with bullet holes.
Yeah. Bullet holes.
Disciple of The Watch Tue, 11th Jul '06, 11:51pm Ahh, B.C. Rich, now these are mighty fine guitars! My bass was a Warlock Bronze, and it was truly a fine one. Sadly, it was stolen. *sigh* I've been stucked with an old Ibanez one ever since. **** you, Ibanez. You suck!
Saber Wed, 12th Jul '06, 7:37am Why the hell would she buy a bullet hole-ridden guitar? Its gotta have a curse on it or something... ever see the Twilight Zone episode with the guy who gets the guitar from a guy who shot himself? Everyone who touches the guitar dies...
Susipaisti Wed, 12th Jul '06, 2:19pm My choice of guitars would be Jackson. Sadly they're not available in Finland anymore. I did get one when it was still possible, and it still is my best guitar. Better than my LTD (ESP's sub-brand) with neck-through body and active pickups.
Those bullet holes...you don't mean *actual* bullet holes, do you? :mommy:
Arabwel Wed, 12th Jul '06, 7:13pm I do mean actual bullet holes - as in, that damn bass has been actually shot by someone.
Apparently bad repairs fromt hat one have affected the entire thing and so my friend has to do some extensive repairs I understand jack about....
And why precisely dos she want it? cause the damn thing has HISTORY. and character :D
Disciple of The Watch Wed, 12th Jul '06, 7:57pm My choice of guitars would be Jackson Meh. They're good guitars, yes... but I prefer B.C Rich. And as for ESP... just like Ibanez: no good.
Daie d'Malkin Wed, 12th Jul '06, 10:32pm Just bought the new Muse album, Black Holes and Revelations yesterday.
I've listened to it pretty much non-stop, it's awesome. Knights of Cydonia (the final track) is fantastic, as is their 1st single from the album, SuperMassive Black Hole.
Highly recommended
Saber Wed, 12th Jul '06, 11:48pm I just bought the new All That Remains album, The Fall of Ideals... I don't really know what to think yet, I have only listened once. Its good, but they overuse the double-bass, which can get a little annoying. After a few more listenings though, who knows?
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 13th Jul '06, 7:40am I somewhat crammed up 250 songs in my MuVo just by activating the "SmartFit" option. It packs the uploaded mp3s into WMA, 64kbps, and they somewhat end up sounding just as good as the said mp3s.
Susipaisti Thu, 13th Jul '06, 2:00pm Over-using the double bass is one of the cardinal sins. So many bands just do a continuous bakabakabakabaka all the time and it just loses its power, its charm. It's much more interesting to play patterns with variation, do some things with the guitar riffs, stuff like that. That way when you do start with those machine gun 16th notes, it actually sounds like something.
I think ESP is okay, but not spectacular. Ibanez is pretty much crap. I've never tried a BC Rich, though. Never happened to come across one.
And why precisely dos she want it? cause the damn thing has HISTORY. and characterIf it's worth all the extensive repairs, why not. I wouldn't buy an instrument for someone else's history myself. On the other hand, I still have my first guitar, a long-suffered Squier Strat, and I'm unlikely to ever get rid of it, 'cos it's my own personal history, even though I never play it anymore.
Mesmero Thu, 13th Jul '06, 3:46pm Geez, couldn't you've said something a month ago, before I bought my Ibanez? :p
It's actually my first bass, and I didn't want anything too expensive. In my totally inexperienced opinion it's nice enough to learn playing on.
Heh, B.C. Rich Fat Bob, now I'd be interested in seeing that. Anybody got a picture?
Morgoth Thu, 13th Jul '06, 4:16pm I somewhat crammed up 250 songs in my MuVo just by activating the "SmartFit" option. It packs the uploaded mp3s into WMA, 64kbps, and they somewhat end up sounding just as good as the said mp3s. [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]
I had to create an MP3 encoder/decoder when I was doing my intern so I had to do some research on the subject. MP3 is an old encoding, more than 10 years old now. Many other music encodings have surpassed it in terms of quality/file size, including Realaudio, Ogg Vorbis, aac, and the latest WMA.
From a Programmer/Pratchett-fan point of view I totally support Ogg Vorbis, because it is open source, is named after 2 Discworld characters and even offers better quality than WMA and Realaudio.
Creative still doesn't support Ogg though, boooo!
In other news, I found one slight problem with the Creative Zen. It can't play mono, that is not a problem with only Zen of course, but with every modern player. They only support stereo!! With my hearing disability I can hardly hear anything coming from the right, so I am missing a lot from every song. For example, the guitar in RHCPs Snow (Hey oh) only comes from the right and I hear it barely.
*me whips up wordpad and starts writing a program to change mp3's to mono*
Disciple of The Watch Thu, 13th Jul '06, 10:02pm Heh, B.C. Rich Fat Bob, now I'd be interested in seeing that. Anybody got a picture? Warlock Series Bass (http://www.bcrich.com/basses/warlockshape.asp) mine was the Warlock Bronze, which is probably the cheapest - but don't be fooled, it performs superbly well.
Mesmero Thu, 13th Jul '06, 10:56pm Well, I wasn't interested in your bass to be totally honest :p , I probably didn't make myself really clear. On the Wikipedia page of B.C. Rich it says they have guitar shaped like a Fat Bob gas tank; I was just curious what that would look like, because I couldn't find it on their website.
Disciple of The Watch Sat, 15th Jul '06, 5:21am I think ESP is okay, but not spectacular. Ibanez is pretty much crap. I've never tried a BC Rich, though. Never happened to come across one.
Yup, Ibanez is trash. Never tried an ESP, but B.C. Rich pwns. If I ever buy a new bass, it'll be a B.C Rich because I'm fed up of my old Ibanez which sounds and looks like ****.
Kitrax Mon, 17th Jul '06, 6:47am It's official...I don't like Slayer. I listed to 'God Hates Us All' and not one of the songs on the album sounded good to me. :bad:
I've also taken a step back to 1999 when I used to listen to Korn. They still have a few good songs. :rolling:
Disciple of The Watch Mon, 17th Jul '06, 7:00am It's official...I don't like Slayer. I listed to 'God Hates Us All' and not one of the songs on the album sounded good to me. [bad] Give old Slayer albums a shot. I too didn't liked God Hates Us All. In fact, I stopped listening to them when Divine Intervention came out. Show No Mercy, Reign In Blood, Hell Awaits are all awesome albums.
Arabwel Mon, 17th Jul '06, 11:57am I don't get why people are so "ZOMG!!" over Rufus Wainwright.
Kitrax Mon, 17th Jul '06, 2:42pm Give old Slayer albums a shot. I too didn't liked God Hates Us All. In fact, I stopped listening to them when Divine Intervention came out. Show No Mercy, Reign In Blood, Hell Awaits are all awesome albums. I've still got Hell Awaits on hold at the library, so once I get it, I'll give it a listen. :D
I don't get why people are so "ZOMG!!" over Rufus Wainwright. Who? :skeptic: :rolling:
Saber Mon, 17th Jul '06, 9:54pm Slayer is funny. I appreciate what they did for metal, but I honestly don't like their stuff that much. I will listen to them more to try and like them, but they're just 'eh' for me.
And I don't like their solos *shudders*.
Disciple of The Watch Mon, 17th Jul '06, 10:30pm I've still got Hell Awaits on hold at the library, so once I get it, I'll give it a listen. [Big Grin]
Now you're talking!
Arabwel Tue, 18th Jul '06, 8:37pm i am starting to like last.fm (http://www.last.fm/) qyuie a lot - any of you guys use it?
Master of Nuhn Tue, 18th Jul '06, 10:27pm I don't get why people are so "ZOMG!!" over Rufus WainwrightI like his La Complainte de la Butte (from Moulin Rouge), but when I listened to his albums I thought it to be rather pessimistic and dark.
I much more prefer his father. The Acid Song i.e. or Career Moves.
Saber Tue, 18th Jul '06, 11:53pm My girlfriend uses lastfm, but I haven't started... Always a good time to start up, eh?
Does it catalog my previously played tracks, or do I have to listen to everything again?
Arabwel Tue, 18th Jul '06, 11:57pm You have to listen to everything again - basially, it keeps tack of what you listen on week-by-week basis. So obviously it gets better the longr you use it.
