View Full Version : British Comedy
Cúchulainn Thu, 8th Jun '06, 2:54pm Whats your favourit?
Currently I am watching 'The Fast Show' which I missed all those years ago (shame on me). Its really funny, but some of jokes are a little out of date.
All time favourits:
Spaced
The League of Gentlemen
Randall and Hopkirk (not the sh!te remake)
Goodness Gracious Me
Smack the poney
Bremner Bird & Fortune
Plate Thu, 8th Jun '06, 3:11pm I adored Green Wing. I was quite upset to read that a third series wasn't planned seeing as they left it on a huge cliffhanger again, but apparently a christmas special was filmed, so I shall eagerly await that.
Other than that,
-Have I got News for You
-Never Mind the Buzzcocks
-Goodness Gracious Me
-The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer
-Shooting Stars
-Spaced (Wish I'd seen more of that)
-Scrubs
I know not all of those are actual comedy series or sketch shows, but hey.
DarkStrider Thu, 8th Jun '06, 3:12pm The Fast Show
Father Ted
Red Dwarf (but not series 8)
My Family (when Kris Marshall is in it)
Two Pints of Lager and...
kuemper Thu, 8th Jun '06, 3:43pm The ones I see are quite old and get broadcast on public television.
Are You Being Served?
Monty Python's Flying Circus
Red Dwarf (seasons 1-3)
The Young Ones
T2Bruno Thu, 8th Jun '06, 4:09pm Flowery Twats ... I mean Fawlty Towers
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
Monty Python
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
Doctor Who (childrens show, but it's pretty funny for adults -- some of the humor is unintentional).
Fabius Maximus Fri, 9th Jun '06, 10:46am Not that much english comedy around here, but:
Even synchronised Fawlty Towers is funny as hell. And Coupling is the single best series coming from Britain in the last 10 years.
Scrubs is an US-series, isn't it?
JSBB Fri, 9th Jun '06, 5:34pm We get a somewhat limited selection over here but my favourites would be Monty Python, Fawlty Towers and Allo Allo.
Drathir Darthirii Fri, 9th Jun '06, 7:10pm My faves are:
-Bottom

-Blackadder

-The Holy Grail (Monty Python)
-Father Ted

Plate Mon, 12th Jun '06, 2:27pm Ah, yes, Scrubs IS American. Forgot it was British only.
Ziad Tue, 13th Jun '06, 8:41pm Spaced is great. It's a shame there's so few episodes overall.
Daie d'Malkin Tue, 13th Jun '06, 9:16pm Blackadder
Red Dwarf
Spaced
Black Books
My Family
The Young Ones
Eddie Izzard
Bill Bailey
Ricky Gervais (somewhat)
Steve Coogan
The list is endless, I've left lots out.
Cap'n CJ Tue, 13th Jun '06, 9:33pm Ah, Black Books :) One of the most underrated shows on TV.
Harbourboy Tue, 13th Jun '06, 9:42pm Bill Bailey is hilarious.
Barmy Army Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 9:38pm If you like Bill Bailey get his stand-up show 'Part Troll' on DVD mate, it's absolutely piss funny. Quality stuff.

Spaced
Blackadder (especially III)
Father Ted
Fawlty Towers
Red Dwarf
Spitting Image
Have I Got News For You
Whose Line Is It Anyway? (the original!)
That's quite a lot, but I love comedy. It's the only TV I watch other than sport, basically.
Harbourboy Sat, 8th Jul '06, 11:58am We can tell that Drathir Darthirii likes The Young Ones because his location is the address that Rik claims to have after queuing up for ages at the Post Office. Classic.
Drathir Darthirii Sun, 9th Jul '06, 10:55am We can tell that Drathir Darthirii likes The Young Ones because his location is the address that Rik claims to have after queuing up for ages at the Post Office. Classic. I didn't think anyone had noticed that! I'm a she BTW, but it doesn't matter. :shake:
Harbourboy Sun, 9th Jul '06, 9:04pm Sorry. Noticed your cool location, but not your gender! It's no wonder my grant is so small.
Jhonka Mon, 10th Jul '06, 5:41pm Look Around You, which I've recently discovered, is comedic genius.
TrueBlueAussie Sun, 16th Jul '06, 8:11am Blackadder, Father Ted, The young ones
Also Little Britain, though I am not sure if that is actually made by british folk or a few guys from another nationality taking the piss out of the pommies.
Barmy Army Sun, 16th Jul '06, 1:04pm No that is made by 2 English fellas. Bloody hilarious an all.
Drathir Darthirii Thu, 27th Jul '06, 11:59am Sorry. Noticed your cool location, but not your gender! It's no wonder my grant is so small.LOL I love that "It's no wonder my grant is so small!" No need to apologise. :D
Oooh yes, I forgot about Little Britain. Loved it at first, but it's dragging on a bit now, I think. I've also recently started watching the Catherine Tate show - it's pretty good, but some of the sketches just aren't funny, they're annoying. Mostly good stuff in there, though. Ooh,, and the Monty Python one, I can't remember what it's called but it's a sketch movie and it has Mr Creosote and the Catholic family and stuff in it...
Cúchulainn Thu, 27th Jul '06, 4:21pm "I'm the only gay in the village"
"yeah but no, but yeah, but"
"I don't like it"
"blaaggghhhhhhhhhhh"
There I have just saved you half an hour of Little Britian :D
I used to think it was funny at first, but its the same jokes series after series. Though I admit it would be very funny to see a sketch of N.I life (they have already covered Scottish and Welsh).
The Magpie Fri, 28th Jul '06, 12:51pm it's a sketch movie and it has Mr Creosote and the Catholic family and stuff in it...It's The Meaning of Life.
And you know have me humming to tune to "Every Sperm is Sacred...", dagnammit! :smash: :pope:
jaded empath Sat, 29th Jul '06, 9:12am Most of what I like has already been mentioned (RD, MPFC, AYBS?, WLIIA?, T2R) but here's an old one that I think wistfully of:
