View Full Version : Lily Allen, WILL take over the British summer...
Barmy Army Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 9:21pm Started out just putting a few of her songs up on MySpace she's now had well over 2million listens and is getting radio time.
She's got a BRILLIANT voice and her songs are gorgeously summery. Check out her MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/lilymusic) , listen to Smile, it's a lovely song.
Expect to hear her in your own countries before long.
Harbourboy Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 9:31pm You heard it here first. I'll put a note in my diary to double check if I have heard of her in six months time. Isn't it summer for you now? Or are you saying she will have taken over by August?
Barmy Army Mon, 3rd Jul '06, 9:33pm She'll be big, and too right to, she's a talented lady.
Check her out.
Mollusken Wed, 5th Jul '06, 12:28am They're playing LDN all the time on the radio here.
Mesmero Wed, 5th Jul '06, 2:21am Didn't you say the same thing about the Arctic Monkeys?
I listened to it, and it didn't sound like anything I want to hear more often.
Harbourboy Wed, 5th Jul '06, 3:14am Who is LDN?
Sir Belisarius Wed, 5th Jul '06, 1:32pm Lily sounds like a cross between Nelly Furtado and Jem...with more expletives. Cute though...
Barmy Army Wed, 5th Jul '06, 6:07pm Didn't you say the same thing about the Arctic Monkeys? You mean the same Arctic Monkeys who's debut album set a new record for fastest sales and out-sold Oasis? :p
Mesmero Wed, 5th Jul '06, 10:52pm You mean the same Arctic Monkeys who's debut album set a new record for fastest sales and out-sold Oasis? [Razz]:mommy: Perhaps I should keep a better eye on British pop music :D
Harbourboy Wed, 5th Jul '06, 10:55pm I've still never heard of the Arctic Monkeys outside of these Boards.
Iago Mon, 17th Jul '06, 9:16pm when I see you cry... it makes me smile...
Heard it about 10 times on the radio and they start airing a video.
Wouldn't have thought that.
When I see you cry... it makes me smile...
Edit: I've seen the video from the arcitc monkeys, yes indeed, I have. The only reason I remember it, it's because it's a little glimps into foreign customs of foreigners. Very foreign, really.
Edit: I actually mailed that link to a special someone who I wouln't mind to see cry.
Mollusken Tue, 18th Jul '06, 5:15pm Who is LDN?It's a song by Lily Allen played very often on Norwegian radio (at least on the channel I listen to). Isn't LDN short for London?
Sydax Thu, 20th Jul '06, 9:44am I don't know about you people, but when you hear a song on radio, radio, tv, metro, bus, cars passing by, supermarket, and everywhere, almost 24 hours at day, after the second day I'm sick of that song, and no matter how good the song/artist is, so much airing makes the song something that hurts just to listen it; examples: this girl Allen has been on air for about 2 weeks already and there are even mobile tones; Paris Hilton and her new caprice, now she... sings; Hips don't lie... I want to kill Shakira.
Fabius Maximus Thu, 20th Jul '06, 11:27am I want to kill Shakira.Nonono, don't kill her. Just turn the sound off. :D
Sydax Thu, 20th Jul '06, 11:52am
I understand your feelings, Fabius.
Her hips moves, well, err, you know...
Harbourboy Thu, 24th Aug '06, 9:28pm Hahaha, I just heard a Lily Allen song yesterday for the first time and I couldn't stop laughing. She sounds like she just walked off the set of "Eastenders" or "Grange Hill". I have this vision in my head that she's really just Susan Tully or Wendy Richard trying to start a music career. Classic.
But seriously, the song was terrible. Most of it was just talking, except for the chorus.
Barmy Army Thu, 24th Aug '06, 9:46pm Well what do you expect mate, she's from London.
You sound like my dad when I have Eminem or something on 'what's this about, it's just talking', haha
The Magpie Fri, 25th Aug '06, 1:06am I'm no Lily Allen fan, either. I'll take Motörhead over that nondescript nonsense anyday. Hell, Lemy's probably better-looking, too! :shake:
Rallymama Thu, 25th Jan '07, 1:45pm Barmy, you were prescient... my favorite radio station named Lily Allen "Artist to Watch" for January, in advance of release of her CD. I find her stuff catchy and clever, and a nice change from the usual stuff I listen to. Good call! :thumb:
Barmy Army Fri, 26th Jan '07, 1:51pm Ah, recognition! Thanks Rally ;) . Glad you like it.
Stick with me, I'll see you right :thumb: .
Late-Night Thinker Fri, 26th Jan '07, 9:18pm I played her stuff on my radio show (college radio = awesomeness) at the beginning of the summer...
I like her song 'Alfie'. She's hot and I'd totally crunch her numbers. But...pop singers rarely "build a following"...like say, for example, I don't know...a power-rock band with 'Dragon' in their title.
If it was going to happen, it probably would have done so already.
Barmy Army Fri, 26th Jan '07, 11:00pm My next tip are a band called The Klaxons. If you haven't heard them, you should make the effort. Try 'Golden Skans' to start with. Great band.
