right, I'm guessing this needs a hint. This movie was in the theatres fairly recently in the U.S. I believe and it has just come out here now in the Philippines.

The person saying the line is playing the President of the U.S. and imo is doing a pretty accurate parody of Bush (though his name isn't Bush in the movie)

I think so DR. Reveal then post a new one?

Death Rabbit
Wed, 26th Jul '06, 5:10am
Woohoo! I rule. But we knew that.

The film is "On a Clear Day." (http://www.apple.com/trailers/focus_features/onaclearday/trailer/) Good movie. The movie alum from my hints will be instantly recognisable if you watch the trailer. I'm not too surprised that it was a stumper because it's so new, but given the number of Europeans here I figured it had a good chance.

Brand spankin' new quote:

"How are we doing today?"
"For me...that really is a difficult question, Doctor - because the world around me is shrinking... and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are comin' to see me today, and they're not bringing flowers which... y'know, just makes it really difficult to get organized."

Death Rabbit
Wed, 26th Jul '06, 1:42pm
Wait a minute - "is it any good?" You're correct DS, but if you haven't seen it, then how did you know the quote? Did you look it up? That be cheatin', matey. :nono:

And yes, it's good - but I've never seen Jacob's Ladder to compare.

DarkStrider

Actually I saw it in a review programme of films coming to a channel here, over the weekend :p

You haven't seen Jacob's Ladder!!!! fine performances by Tim Robbins, Danny Aeillo and plenty of twists and turns.

Will add next quote as soon as I get home (imdb is a banned site at work, :( )

1st Guy: Is that a barn?
2nd Guy: Is it red?
1st Guy: No.
2nd Guy: Then it isn't a barn!

The Magpie

You know, I'm going to pedanticY'know, so am I. ;)

Upon release in 1977, Star Wars was known as simply that - the secondary heading "Episode IV - A New Hope" was only added later upon re-release to match The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The original title of the film has always been Star Wars. So my answer stands alone, and correct. :p

And since there may well be a danger of things veering dangerously off-topic, I'll just post a gimme so we can all get back to the game:

"Borg? Sounds Swedish."

That would be Free Enterprise.
@Mags - Were you even alive in 1977? IIRC, you should've been around 3 or 4 at the time, so unless your memory of seeing it in the theater is *that* good, you're basing your reply on secondhand info. But thank you for riding roughshod over my answer. :p

EDIT: Been gone getting an eyepatch on YPP. I'm reasonably sure I'm right, so here's the next quote:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off?
Loaded Weapon I?
The Big Bounce?

Death Rabbit
Fri, 4th Aug '06, 10:12pm
Heh - even if that wasn't completely cheating (which it is) it still isn't on that list. Look - if you haven't seen the movie in question, and/or don't honestly remember the quote, you probably shouldn't be guessing wildly. It takes the fun out the game. Maybe that's a new rule we should add to the top...

Extra quote/final hint: "There's no rule that says the kidnapper can't be cordial and nice." The rock stars in question are Henry Rollins (responsible for the "busload of nuns" quote) and Anthony Keidis & Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

If that softball of a hint doesn't do it for any of you, then you flat out haven't seen it.

Do you know the most surprising thing about divorce? It doesn't actually kill you. Like a bullet to the heart or a head-on car wreck. It should. When someone you've promised to cherish till death do you part says "I never loved you," it should kill you instantly. You shouldn't have to wake up day after day after that, trying to understand how in the world you didn't know. The light just never went on, you know. I must have known, of course, but I was too scared to see the truth. Then fear just makes you so stupid.

Vukodlak
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 10:36am
That was quick... :aaa:

Quite right takara... have at thee.

Takara
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 10:43am
Only quick as I happened to be online at that moment.

hmmm. ok. " You be strong, you survive... You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you. "

DarkStrider
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 12:50pm
Last of the Mohicans?

Takara
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 1:01pm
Indeed it is. The soundtrack for the scene immediately after is a Clannad track, which is so so good.

DarkStrider
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 1:36pm
Most Clannad tracks are ;)

Would you like to have a roll in the hay? It's fun.

T2Bruno
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 2:55pm
Young Frankenstein?

Susipaisti
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 3:01pm
T2's idea leads me to guess Frankenstein Junior.

DarkStrider
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 3:08pm
Ye got it T2 Inga says it, would you like another balloon on a stick, or we have some new prizes of a generic cuddly toy?

T2Bruno
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 7:50pm
I'm just dying to meet this guy.

The Magpie
Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 10:03pm
The Crow?

T2Bruno
Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 3:21pm
No. It's said after a monolog about the man the person is 'dying to meet.' and if typed the way it is said it would be:

I'm just ... DYING ... to meet this guy.

The Magpie
Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 3:59pm
Leon? (A.K.A The Professional)

T2Bruno
Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 4:21pm
It is Leon.

Your turn.

The Magpie
Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 4:28pm
Heh... It was the Gary Oldman-esque pronunciation that gave that one away. I still should have got it first time, though, as it's my favouritest film ever.

"For me, stealing's always been a lot like sex."

DarkStrider
Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 4:38pm
Gone in sixty seconds?

The Magpie
Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 4:54pm
Heh - what are you implying? ;) :shake:

Even so, that's not the right answer, I'm afraid. Please try again.

DarkStrider
Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 5:11pm
I wasn't implying anything ... I thought it was a good answer  ... sixty seconds huh? :D

The Magpie
Thu, 24th Aug '06, 9:52am
Well, I always try to get in and then out again without anyone noticing.

Wait... we were talking about the stealing part, right? :hahaerr:

Clue: think of a Wachowski film that ain't The Matrix. And if that's not a dead giveaway, then I despair of you all, frankly. :p

Vukodlak
Thu, 24th Aug '06, 10:03am
Well, Bound I guess...

Death Rabbit
Thu, 24th Aug '06, 10:18am

Vukodlak

DarkStrider

I believe that's from the truly uninspiring (couldn't even be rescued by Angelina) Sky Captain and tomorrow's world

JSBB
Tue, 29th Aug '06, 7:19pm
Yep, it is from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Go ahead DarkStrider.

"I remember days like this, when my father took me to the forest and we ate wild blueberries, more than twenty years ago. I was just a boy of four or five. The leaves were so dark and green then. The grass smelled sweet with the spring wind. Almost twenty years of pitiless combat, no rest, no sleep like other men, and yet the spring wind blows"

dmc
Wed, 30th Aug '06, 2:49am
Sounds like Conan (the first one I think)

JSBB
Wed, 30th Aug '06, 3:15am
Yes it is from Conan the Barbarian. Go ahead dmc.

TrueBlueAussie

Uhh, best I can come up with is Billy Madison (99% sure that is wrong)

DarkStrider

DarkStrider
Sun, 3rd Sep '06, 12:24pm
Comedy, from a director before he started obsessing

dmc
Mon, 4th Sep '06, 6:01am
Nah, Woodie was already obsessing when he did Sleeper.

Harbourboy
Mon, 4th Sep '06, 7:28am
Goodfellas?

DarkStrider
Mon, 4th Sep '06, 10:46am
Correct dmc, but obsessing about middle aged angst and manhattan got a little excessive, anyway a generic cuddly toy for you and your go.

dmc
Mon, 4th Sep '06, 8:58pm
You have to remember that a worm, with very few exceptions, is not a human being.

T2Bruno
Tue, 5th Sep '06, 5:04pm
Going back to one of my favorites... Young Frankenstein.

dmc

Death Rabbit

Love and a 45?

nior
Thu, 7th Sep '06, 7:26am
Sorry DR, but I'm positively sure that was Lt. Col. Slade (Al Pacino) speaking to Charlie, from...

Scent of A Woman.

T2Bruno
Thu, 7th Sep '06, 4:01pm
nior has it.

nior
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 5:28am
Thanks Bruno, the quote I have in stored was actually also from the same movie. So...

anybody can have my turn.

Enagonios
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 6:19am
yes, a freebie! :D

okay, here's one:

"This sash was a gift to me, from the Queen of America."

easy one if you saw it i think

nior
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 7:01am
I don't know from which movie the quote came from but "Queen of America!"

Enagonios
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 8:12am
it should be pretty easy if you've seen it, but if nobody gets it by tomorrow, i'll add the next line.

Chas
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 8:57am
Wild guess since I never saw the movie:
Coming To America?

DarkStrider
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 12:03pm
The Three Musketeers?

Enagonios
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 9:53pm
boo

DS has it ;) imo, that was the best incarnation of the 3 musketeers :p

DarkStrider
Fri, 8th Sep '06, 11:36pm
woohoo it was the most fun, the others were far too serious

"Well, you've done it to yourself this time, haven't you?"
"Am I dying, Louie?"
"From a slipped disk? That'll be a first."

Enagonios
Sun, 10th Sep '06, 7:35am

*Ting*
Sorry DS, 4 days and no good answer yet. Mind if I am the IJ this time?

"Don't blow smoke up my @ss. It will ruin my autopsy."

DarkStrider
Tue, 12th Sep '06, 4:28pm
Where in the rules does it say that?

Surely I get a winner and another go

Master of Nuhn
Tue, 12th Sep '06, 4:34pm
Okay! Nm me. These rules are bugging me, I have to say.

Edit:
This is what thought I could invoke an IJ:
"Note on the Impatient Jackass Rule: If the quote game stands for 48 hours without a post (either a winner posting something new, or someone venturing a guess), anyone can "invoke the IJ" and start a new quote, regardless of turn. This is designed to keep the game moving smoothly. This can ONLY be done when the game is stagnant."
;)

DarkStrider
Tue, 12th Sep '06, 5:09pm
oh fair enough in that case

/me gives myself generic cuddly toy

The film in question was Jacob's Ladder with Tim Robbins as Jacob, and in that scene Danny Aiello as Louie.

And now... Master of Nuhn will rightly IJ :D

Takara
Tue, 12th Sep '06, 5:12pm
Never saw Jacobs ladder, but your actor/director hint should have rung up Tim Robbins.

Master of Nuhn
Tue, 12th Sep '06, 5:18pm
Hey! Jacob's Ladder is on my Wish2See-list. That's a Rubber Reality movie, right? Like the types of Vanilla Sky, Butterfly Effect, 12 Monkeys etc? Where you can't be sure what's real and what not?

And this was my quote:
Don't blow smoke up my @ss. It will ruin my autopsy.

DarkStrider
Tue, 12th Sep '06, 5:33pm
Oh yes indeed MoN and it also features the first appearance of one Macaulay Culkin as Jacob's son.

One of my favourite films

Takara
Tue, 12th Sep '06, 8:11pm
After talking to DS it turned out I had seen Jacob's ladder, many years ago. Good film.

Master of Nuhn
Wed, 13th Sep '06, 4:07pm
Time for a hint.

Two quotes from the same movie: "Careful Bill, you'll give yourself a heart attack and ruin my vacation." and "When I introduce you, and I tell them who you are, I don't think anyone will stay for dinner."

T2Bruno
Wed, 13th Sep '06, 6:19pm
The third quote is Meet Joe Black (I guess the others are too, I just dont remember them).

Master of Nuhn
Wed, 13th Sep '06, 10:24pm
Correct!
/me hands an undead cuddly toy to T2B.

T2Bruno
Wed, 13th Sep '06, 11:20pm
I thought we'd be dead by step two, so this is going great.

Carcaroth
Thu, 14th Sep '06, 10:00am
Lethal Weapon?

T2Bruno
Thu, 14th Sep '06, 3:49pm
No, far more recent than that.

Hint: Another quote:

Have you seen my nuts?

No guesses? Well then here is a hint: The person who said this was also known as the "Prima Donna"

Wiley One
Tue, 19th Sep '06, 2:23am
One more hint:

The quote is from a play/movie that is set in Paris, late 19th century

JSBB
Tue, 19th Sep '06, 2:56am
Phantom of the Opera?

Wiley One
Tue, 19th Sep '06, 3:14am
Thats correct JSBB.

More specifically it was Carlotta from the Phantom of the Opera.

Your turn...

Rallymama
Tue, 19th Sep '06, 3:29pm
Why does that sound like "Army of Darkness"?

JSBB
Tue, 19th Sep '06, 3:57pm
Heh, I suppose it does sound like something that Ash might have said but it isn't from the Evil Dead series.

Death Rabbit
Wed, 20th Sep '06, 9:28am
Sounds like something I've seen recently. My Super Ex-Girlfriend?

JSBB
