View Full Version : Movie associated with a song game
Takara Fri, 28th Jul '06, 5:26pm OK, Whilst in bed for lots I had this great idea for a new game. You post a song and someone needs to guess the movie. For example if I posted Berlin - Take my breath away the answer would be Top Gun. The only ones you can post are: written for a film, star the band in a brief cameo, or the song will always be linked to the film, like Kenny Loggins - Dangerzone. I and many people will automatically say to themselves...... "yeeeehah, Jesters dead...." from Top Gun. You cant post say Coldplay - Clocks just because it was used in Confidence.
So that said I'll start it off. since it is the start I will make it easy.
Huey Lewis and the News - The power of love
kuemper Fri, 28th Jul '06, 5:56pm Back to the Future, iirc.
Takara Fri, 28th Jul '06, 6:16pm Indeed it is. You're up next Kuemper. :)
kuemper Fri, 28th Jul '06, 6:55pm This isn't as easy as you'd think. 90% of the movie songs I know have the fricking movie title in them!
Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman? - Bryan Adams
Death Rabbit Fri, 28th Jul '06, 7:16pm Don Juan DeMarco?
kuemper Fri, 28th Jul '06, 10:19pm Yuppers. Go bunny!
Death Rabbit Fri, 28th Jul '06, 10:32pm Hmm, let's see (interesting new game, by the way):
The Glory of Love - Peter Cetara
Splunge Fri, 28th Jul '06, 11:49pm Well, kind of an educated guess. I think this is from Karate Kid, and given DR's unnatural love for this movie :p , I'll go with that. :D
Death Rabbit Fri, 28th Jul '06, 11:56pm Unnatural? UNNATURAL?! The Karate Kid represents everything that is good, and pure, and noble in this world! Show some respect! :p
It's from Karate Kid 2, but I'll give it to ya.
Splunge Fri, 28th Jul '06, 11:58pm
OK, so I hope this falls under the "song will always be linked to the film" rule, so...
Jeff Beck - The Pump
Takara Sat, 29th Jul '06, 9:37am Yay! Seems to be taking off well. :) No idea for yours though Splunge, but I wouldn't start a game that I'd know EVERYTHING hehe. :p
Harbourboy Sat, 29th Jul '06, 10:59am Fast Times at Ridgemont High?
kuemper Sat, 29th Jul '06, 4:37pm Does listening to the song count as cheating? I listened to Pump because I couldn't find The Pump as one of his songs.
Enagonios Sat, 29th Jul '06, 5:15pm cool game Takara, glad to see you're back in the game scene :D
Unnatural? UNNATURAL?! The Karate Kid represents everything that is good, and pure, and noble in this world! Show some respect! Ah, that proves it. DR and HB are clones of each other :p
no idea about the answer though
Takara Sat, 29th Jul '06, 8:29pm Thanks Enagonios. :) Whilst I was bed ridden it gave me a lot of time to think, and this game just bloomed and really developed. I know I'd have loved this game if someone else started it.
Splunge Sat, 29th Jul '06, 11:07pm I think I need to reconsider this song - I don't know that it really falls into the "always linked to the film" category. It was Risky Business.
I'll try again - Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner
Harbourboy Sat, 29th Jul '06, 11:27pm Apocalypse Now?
kuemper Sun, 30th Jul '06, 12:11am I think I need to reconsider this song - I don't know that it really falls into the "always linked to the film" category. It was Risky Business.Uh, that would be Old Time Rock 'n Roll by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. Jeff Beck? Pah-lease!
Death Rabbit Sun, 30th Jul '06, 12:58am Ah, that proves it. DR and HB are clones of each otherImpossible. I've heard of things. :p
Harbourboy Sun, 30th Jul '06, 2:58am I've heard of things. So long as they are things that have appeared in a Karate Kid movie.
Splunge Sun, 30th Jul '06, 3:08am HB's got it.
Harbourboy Sun, 30th Jul '06, 5:29am "The Moment of Truth" by Survivor
Takara Sun, 30th Jul '06, 2:55pm The only Survivor track I know is eye of the tiger. heh. Splunge, dont be too downhearted, for me I just hadn't seen it. May have been irretrievably linked... but couldn't say for mtself.
Splunge Sun, 30th Jul '06, 3:31pm Not downhearted, Takara. Just kicking myself for: a) picking a song not really tied to a movie, and b) missing the obvious one kuemper mentioned.
HB, are you being sneaky? Because I think yours might be from Karate Kid again.
Enagonios Sun, 30th Jul '06, 4:22pm yeah, it is from the karate kid again i think.
Harbourboy Sun, 30th Jul '06, 9:22pm Nothing sneaky about Survivor! It's your turn though, Splunge-san.
Splunge Sun, 30th Jul '06, 9:52pm Unchained Melody - The Righteous Brothers
Takara Sun, 30th Jul '06, 9:57pm Ghost. Pottery scene always stands out. :)
Splunge Sun, 30th Jul '06, 11:19pm That's the one, Takara.
Takara Mon, 31st Jul '06, 8:34am A good one. Was going to post it myself in a bit, got a few I'd have done first though.
OK, might prove tricky even though most will have seen it. But maybe not.
ZZ Top - Doubleback
Death Rabbit Mon, 31st Jul '06, 9:47am Back to the Future III. I still remember the video. :D
Get Into the Groove - Madonna
Takara Mon, 31st Jul '06, 10:06am Cor, you managed no prob. Guess I'll have to get back at ya by getting yours. ;) Desperately seeking susan. Good ol' 1985. :) I'll have to make it trickier, but then if you know it, it's easy. Starship - Nothings gonna stop us now.
Enagonios Mon, 31st Jul '06, 11:19am mannequin 2
Death Rabbit Mon, 31st Jul '06, 11:28am Ick - nope, I believe it was the first Mannequin. You know...the one that was REALLY good. :p
Takara Mon, 31st Jul '06, 2:04pm Yes it was the first. Didn't know they made a sequel. I love Mannequin, appeals to my romantic soul. Video was good too with the 2 lead singers in Starship acting out as if they are in Mannequin.
Enagonios Mon, 31st Jul '06, 2:25pm I only saw the one with Kristy Swanson and was in love with her back then  but recently, my friend told me that was mannequin2 and mannequin1 had kim catrall in it?
but this was the song for the kristy swanson one wasn't it? this song is one of my old faves as well
Takara Mon, 31st Jul '06, 5:58pm Nope, it was frrom the one with the lovely Kim Catrall.
Enagonios Mon, 31st Jul '06, 6:31pm ah, you learn something new everyday i guess. weird how i always associate this song with that movie though.. did they make it the main theme for mannequin2 as well?
Takara Mon, 31st Jul '06, 10:14pm I have no clue. But the video for the Starship song also had actual clips from the film too, and it was def. the first. As I said, I had no idea there was even a sequel.
Death Rabbit Mon, 31st Jul '06, 11:12pm Sorry about the steal, Enag. :p
Easy one: Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - U2
T2Bruno Mon, 31st Jul '06, 11:27pm Batman Forever.
Pseudospawn Mon, 31st Jul '06, 11:27pm Batman Forever ...which i regretably saw at the weekend.
Even easier one: Lovefool - The Cardigans
EDIT: Damn you T2 beat me by a few seconds
/me shakes fist at T2Bruno :D
T2Bruno Tue, 1st Aug '06, 3:37am After that curse by Psuedospawn I'll assume I'm right and post:
On the Dark Side by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band
kuemper Tue, 1st Aug '06, 1:06pm Eddie and the Cruisers
T2Bruno Tue, 1st Aug '06, 3:28pm Your turn kuemper.
kuemper Tue, 1st Aug '06, 4:22pm Crazy for You - Madonna
Enagonios Tue, 1st Aug '06, 4:53pm shanghai surprise?
Gawain Tue, 1st Aug '06, 6:16pm Vision Quest?
kuemper Tue, 1st Aug '06, 6:55pm Yes. Gawain is up next.
Gawain Tue, 1st Aug '06, 7:31pm Cool.
I Can Dream About You, by Dan Hartman
T2Bruno Tue, 1st Aug '06, 7:44pm Streets of Fire
Gawain Tue, 1st Aug '06, 8:08pm You are correct.
T2Bruno Tue, 1st Aug '06, 9:05pm This one's going back a few years....
Call Me Irresponsible -- Ol' Blue Eyes.
jaded empath Tue, 1st Aug '06, 11:51pm Hmmm...the ORIGINAL Ocean's Eleven?
/me worries about fading memories...
T2Bruno Wed, 2nd Aug '06, 3:34pm Frank did not appear in the movie. The song was awarded an Oscar. The movie was a classic comedy with Jackie Gleason.
I guess I should keep away from the classics and go with something more recent...
Shape of My Heart -- Sting (this should be easy as it was in three films).
[ August 02, 2006, 22:47: Message edited by: T2Bruno ]
Takara Thu, 3rd Aug '06, 9:16am It's easy if you like Sting. :p No clue myself.
DarkStrider Thu, 3rd Aug '06, 10:27am Lethal Weapon III?
The Magpie Thu, 3rd Aug '06, 11:56am Leon (a.k.a. The Professional)
T2Bruno Thu, 3rd Aug '06, 3:48pm Leon was one of the three -- it was the theme song for Knight Moves and was also used in Three of Hearts. Your turn Magpie.
Takara Thu, 3rd Aug '06, 8:46pm Really? The song I always remember from Leon is Bjork - Venus as a boy. But many won't connect the two as it wont forever be linked, and it wasn't written for it.
The Magpie Fri, 4th Aug '06, 12:14pm O.K., I'm short on ideas and I'm not 100% sure how this works, so I'm just going to throw out a complete softball and see who smacks it first:
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
I give this one about, ooh, 12 picoseconds...
Takara Fri, 4th Aug '06, 1:06pm Hehe, a softball.... IF you know it. I'm sure many wont have seen The Excorcist.
The Magpie Fri, 4th Aug '06, 1:17pm 'Tis 'tExorcist, Tak. Take 'taway.
Takara Fri, 4th Aug '06, 3:59pm OK, here's one asscociated with a film I like and the song I adore. Samuel Barber - Adagio for strings
DarkStrider Fri, 4th Aug '06, 4:19pm Platoon
Takara Fri, 4th Aug '06, 5:56pm Indeed it is. I love that song and it's perfect when Willem Dafoe is dying.
DarkStrider Fri, 4th Aug '06, 6:18pm Ok stayimg with the classical theme - Bach's Toccato and Fugue in D minor
Takara Fri, 4th Aug '06, 9:30pm Heh, I'm sure I'd porobably get it... but my knowledge of classical is sadly limited. If I heard it, I might get the film, but sadly I wont otherwise. JNot too long back someone said the marriage of figaro by mozrt, for anther game, and they selected it because they has just seen Shawshank redemption. I didn't know until I actually heard it. Then I knew.
kuemper Fri, 4th Aug '06, 9:56pm If listening to the song is cheating, then discount my guess:
Dracula with Bela Lugosi?
DarkStrider Fri, 4th Aug '06, 11:54pm No not a horror movie, though it was violent
T2Bruno Sat, 5th Aug '06, 3:38am Clockwork Orange?
DarkStrider Sat, 5th Aug '06, 11:40am Nay that is Beethoven, this film is from the 70's and had a lot of Bach, the Toccata was associated with the game...
Arabwel Sat, 5th Aug '06, 12:29pm Rollerball?
Takara Sat, 5th Aug '06, 3:43pm Solar warriors?
DarkStrider Sat, 5th Aug '06, 5:58pm And the shiny ballon is Ara's :)
Arabwel Sat, 5th Aug '06, 6:24pm Wheee! :D
THis is gonna be a softball....
Rammstein - Freuer Frei
Enagonios Sun, 6th Aug '06, 6:22am hint?
Harbourboy Sun, 6th Aug '06, 6:53am Um, no idea, Arabwel. Sounds foreign.
Takara Sun, 6th Aug '06, 9:16am No clue here either. Which is the song, and which is the artist? Heh
Vukodlak Sun, 6th Aug '06, 10:17am xxx
Arabwel Sun, 6th Aug '06, 3:44pm Vukodlak has it :D
THe song is featured prominently int he beginning of xXx, the VIn Diesel action thingamajik, withRammstein on stage while a hapless guy gets chased into the crowd, and sniped, with his dead body then getting crowd-surfy :D
Vukodlak Sun, 6th Aug '06, 4:05pm 'Ode to Joy' from Beethoven's 9th symphony.
DarkStrider Sun, 6th Aug '06, 4:36pm Clockwork Orange?
Takara Sun, 6th Aug '06, 5:25pm Seen xXx but I would have had no clue. I wouldn't know Rammstein and their appearance..... not my sort of music. :(
Vukodlak Sun, 6th Aug '06, 6:09pm Well, I'm sure it did make an appearance in the Clockwork Orange but there it would have been one of many of Beethoven's compositions. The film I am thinking of uses it in a more iconic way.
Takara Mon, 7th Aug '06, 12:35pm Hint?
Vukodlak Mon, 7th Aug '06, 1:13pm The film is the first of a trilogy, although the 'ode to joy' is also used in the third installment...
Takara Mon, 7th Aug '06, 2:18pm Lord of the rings?
Arabwel Mon, 7th Aug '06, 3:02pm the Matrix?
kuemper Mon, 7th Aug '06, 5:59pm Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery?
jaded empath Mon, 7th Aug '06, 6:07pm Grrrrrr...Vukodlak - my hatred for you burns like the fires of a thousand red-hot suns; hooking me into this and making me think on a monday (and it's my day off!) ;) :p
Um...trilogy is bugging me, there ain't that many...
Wait...
Bad News Bears?!? *shrugs*
Death Rabbit Mon, 7th Aug '06, 6:08pm Die Hard?
Vukodlak Mon, 7th Aug '06, 6:13pm Yes it's Die Hard. You remember - when the 'terrorists' finally open the 7th lock on the safe -> 'Merry Christmas'
Death Rabbit Mon, 7th Aug '06, 8:34pm Of course I remember - classic. :)
Battle Without Honor or Humility - Tomoyasu Hotei
kuemper Mon, 7th Aug '06, 9:02pm I can't find a way to listen to it, so here's a flatout guess:
The Last Samurai?
Death Rabbit Mon, 7th Aug '06, 9:08pm No - I don't think original scores count in this game. Or at least - they shouldn't.
This song is a pop song. It has become quite popular recently, especially among sports teams and tv commercials. But, admittedly, it's one of those mystery songs that becomes named after the movie because no one else knows how to identify it. Kind of like "you know, that 'Rush Hour' song," etc. But once you hear it, you recognize it immediately. It's that distinct.
No, it's not from Rush Hour.
Takara Mon, 7th Aug '06, 9:14pm Damn, so much for my guess. :p
DarkStrider Mon, 7th Aug '06, 10:03pm Romeo Must Die?
Death Rabbit Tue, 8th Aug '06, 12:05am No, but you're on the right track.
Edit: Here's the song [LINK REMOVED]. Easily found with a google search of the title, I might add. :nono:
I'm far too easy on you people. :D
[edit (below) - Really? Didn't know that. Someone should tell Kuemper she's a cheater-pants, then. ]
[ August 08, 2006, 00:25: Message edited by: Death Rabbit ]
DarkStrider Tue, 8th Aug '06, 12:22am But that's cheating, listening to the song
kuemper Tue, 8th Aug '06, 5:13am Someone should tell Kuemper she's a cheater-pants, then.Hey, I've stated right out and asked if listening to the song is cheating. Most of the time, I know the music better than title/artist, especially with classicals. Better put that boldly in the rules then:
Listening to the song posted is CHEATING!
Death Rabbit Tue, 8th Aug '06, 5:40am Hey now, that's DarkStrider's or probably Takara's call (since he started the game). I for one don't really care, I think it's almost essential for some songs.
Takara Tue, 8th Aug '06, 10:17am Listening to the song is NOT cheating. The song title has been said, obviously, and you don't get a clue to the film. All it does is remind you of the song and how it goes. If you have seen the film it will help, if you haven't then listening to the song wont help.
DarkStrider Tue, 8th Aug '06, 10:44am I was just joshing (I may be a powerful dracolich but I ain't going up against no Marilith, no sirree)
Anyway my guess is Kill Bill? probably Volume 1?
Death Rabbit Tue, 8th Aug '06, 10:48am Your guess is correct.
DarkStrider Tue, 8th Aug '06, 12:03pm Ready Steady Go - Paul Oakenfold, my favourite scene in the film
Death Rabbit Tue, 8th Aug '06, 1:10pm Collateral - the scene in the nightclub 'Fever?'
If so, it's my favorite scene in that film too. ;)
DarkStrider Tue, 8th Aug '06, 1:32pm Oh yeah, you got it DR
kuemper Tue, 8th Aug '06, 2:29pm Nice backpeddling guys.
Death Rabbit Tue, 8th Aug '06, 9:03pm They fear you. ;)
Next up (easy one): Good Enough - Cindy Lauper
Takara Tue, 8th Aug '06, 10:43pm Only cindy I know and it's a cover, is Time after time. It was done by Tara Morice and Mark Williams. But I doubt anyone would know the film, or the artists.
Mesmero Tue, 8th Aug '06, 11:26pm Isn't that from The Goonies? There was a Cindy Lauper song in there, but I'm not really sure it's this one (it has been a while since I last saw that movie).
Death Rabbit Wed, 9th Aug '06, 1:19am Yawp.
Takara Thu, 10th Aug '06, 2:19pm Well, if by tommorrow morning we still are waiting I'll IJ this.
nior Fri, 11th Aug '06, 8:27am I hate to take on the IJ knowing I'd be out for the weekend. But I'd love to keep this thread up, besides, I got a really great song... and it should be easy enough so most anybody can confirm it.
It's Probably Me - Sting & Eric Clapton
DarkStrider Fri, 11th Aug '06, 9:55am I might be confusing myself here but - Lethal Weapon III?
Mesmero Fri, 11th Aug '06, 11:39am Sorry guys, I totally forgot about this.
I've no clue on the new song (which is probably a good thing :) )
Takara Fri, 11th Aug '06, 4:30pm I'm afraid I've no clue, but I normally don't follow Sting or Eric Clapton's music. So the film featuring it IF I saw it, wouldn't stick in the mind.
EDIT: Since Nior is not going to be back until after the weekend and we wont hear whether Darkstrider is right; not sure WHY she IJed when she was going to be away; We will take it that DS is right and he's free to post another.
[ August 11, 2006, 21:15: Message edited by: Takara ]
nior Mon, 14th Aug '06, 4:02am ^ It's a he, Takara. Sorry, I thought Sting and Clapton were pretty standard to everyone and Lethal Weapon series was an easy guess.
Anyway, DS is right.
Takara Mon, 14th Aug '06, 9:16am I'm sorry nior, I was getting a bit bored and wanted it moving. And DS was away for weekend too so it wasn't going any quicker anyway. :)
DarkStrider Mon, 14th Aug '06, 12:12pm Softball to get it going again
Dooley Wilson - As Time goes by
nior Mon, 14th Aug '06, 12:22pm Casablanca?
...no problem Takara. :)
Takara Mon, 14th Aug '06, 12:55pm How can I post... I think nior is dead on. ;)
DarkStrider Mon, 14th Aug '06, 12:58pm And nior is correct, have a shiny balloon on a stick
nior Tue, 15th Aug '06, 3:27am Ok, here's another oldie but not as old as Casablanca.
Wonderful World (Don't Know Much) - Sam Cooke
Takara Tue, 15th Aug '06, 12:28pm It's a mad mad world?
I was eating lunch and I had a thought... It's a wonderful life with Jimmy Stewart?
[ August 15, 2006, 13:01: Message edited by: Takara ]
T2Bruno Tue, 15th Aug '06, 6:21pm I only remember that in Animal House.
Takara Tue, 15th Aug '06, 6:41pm The most memorable song in that film was Louie Louie, which bit had this song?
T2Bruno Tue, 15th Aug '06, 8:03pm It was playing in the background when John Belushi was foraging in the cafeteria.
DAMN!!! Harrison Ford sings it in a movie. Had to be Witness after he got the car started again.
nior Wed, 16th Aug '06, 4:16am Bruno got it. Harrison Ford singing to it as he dances with Kelly McGillis in Witness.
T2Bruno Wed, 16th Aug '06, 3:45pm Okay, how about:
You Can't Always Get What You Want
Takara Wed, 16th Aug '06, 4:29pm Is that by the Rolling Stones?
T2Bruno Wed, 16th Aug '06, 5:04pm Yes and no. When the song is first heard in the movie it is not the Rolling Stones.
Takara Wed, 16th Aug '06, 5:15pm Full metal jacket? it's the only film I recall with the Stones. Oh that and Jumping Jack Flash, but I sincerely doubt it's that.
T2Bruno Wed, 16th Aug '06, 6:14pm The first time you hear it, it is played on an organ.
Edit: I usually associate this with Kevin Costner's nose.
Edit again: This movie has one of the best soundtracks for classic rock.
[ August 17, 2006, 03:38: Message edited by: T2Bruno ]
Takara Thu, 17th Aug '06, 1:39pm Nope, no help I'm afraid. I just never remember a Stones track, even when played slightly differently. I just hate them so much.
Laiwethel Thu, 17th Aug '06, 2:10pm The Big Chill?
T2Bruno Thu, 17th Aug '06, 3:28pm Thank-you, Laiwethel.
The song was played at the funeral for the Kevin Costner character (who committed suicide). All of Kevin's flashback-type scenes were deleted from the movie and the only time he is shown is in the coffin -- you can barely see his nose sticking out.
Laiwethel Fri, 18th Aug '06, 3:46pm The Kevin Costner clue gave it away :p It's a great movie with a fantastic soundtrack.
Here's a softball for you:
Donald O'Connor - Make 'em Laugh
DarkStrider Fri, 18th Aug '06, 4:49pm Singing in the rain
And the next one is
My beautiful monster - The Eels
Master of Nuhn Fri, 18th Aug '06, 6:12pm You mean "My Beloved Monster" by Eels?
Cause that makes me think of Shrek. As do "Hallelujah" and "I'm a believer"
DarkStrider Fri, 18th Aug '06, 6:19pm sorry Master I did you win this shiny balloon on a stick :)
Master of Nuhn Fri, 18th Aug '06, 6:24pm Sweet! Now... lemme see if I can come up with a song that is very 'adhesive' to a particular movie... Takes some time I guess.
Edit:
Mmpfh. Perhaps this will do...
Irving Berlin - Cheek to Cheek
I don't mean the movie for which it was origionally written (in 1935) but a more recent one.
(Sorry! Can't come up with anything else atm)
Takara Sun, 20th Aug '06, 7:09pm sorry MoN but time for an IJ. It's about time to go back to easier tracks. Simple Minds - Don't you (forget about me)
[It's your thread, but the IJ usually applies when someone has a right answer but has not posted a new question or someone has guessed and not received a "yes" or "no" within 24 hours . . . so I'm not sure how you can invoke it here.] -dmc
[DMC it applies since MoN technically broke the rules... his posted song was made and used for another film, so it doesn't specifically link to the new film as I can see it.]

DarkStrider Sun, 20th Aug '06, 8:23pm The Breakfast Club
Takara Sun, 20th Aug '06, 8:24pm Indeed it is! Have a shiny balloon to play with. :)
DarkStrider Mon, 21st Aug '06, 10:47am Come In Number 51, Your Time Is Up - The Pink Floyd
Bonus points for telling me which scene
Takara Mon, 21st Aug '06, 10:55am The Wall? Not actually seen it so dont really know
DarkStrider Mon, 21st Aug '06, 1:57pm And he went for the obvious, sorry Tak it's not The Wall
Takara Mon, 21st Aug '06, 3:25pm oh well, I thought maybe it was, since I cant recall any films using Pink Floyd.
DarkStrider Mon, 21st Aug '06, 3:51pm There's 2 I know of this one and another that they wrote the soundtrack for, I'll give th eother film once this one is solved.
And the geographical location of this film does exist.
Takara Mon, 21st Aug '06, 3:54pm I dont know why, but Brazil popped into my head.
DarkStrider Mon, 21st Aug '06, 4:46pm Interesting, very interesting Mr Takara, but wrong
Edit: 1970's cultish film filmed at the location of the title
[ August 22, 2006, 10:01: Message edited by: DarkStrider ]
Takara Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 10:47am I hope you didn't do Pink Floyd live at pompeii.
DarkStrider Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 12:49pm No I didn't
A 1970 film by Michelangelo Antonioni that was intended to capitalize on the U.S. counterculture movement of the time by sympathetically telling the story of a young couple — an idealistic student, and a militant radical — with a pointedly anti-establishment message.
The soundtrack album features music from various artists, including Pink Floyd, The Youngbloods, Jerry Garcia, Patti Page, and the Grateful Dead.
The Floyd were specifically asked to write a piece for this scene.
Takara Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 12:59pm Soz DS, but on this I have no clue.
DarkStrider Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 1:37pm And no one else seems to be playing ... :(
Death Rabbit Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 1:41pm I've been TRYING to play...you just keep posting songs that make me shrug. :p
DarkStrider Tue, 22nd Aug '06, 1:49pm Ok the scene for this song is a building blowing up, photographed from a multitude of angles.
Sorry DR it may be that only the diehard geeky Floyd fans will know this one. You often leave me stumped in the scene and quote games, I guess payback can be a ***** :p
nior Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 4:20am I've been hanging out this thread too but like DR, the songs are just not familiar to me.
DarkStrider Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 11:53am Ok the one I was looking for was Zabriskie Point
Here's a hopefully softball

DarkStrider Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 1:34pm Yay we have a winner, would you like the shiny balloon on a stick or the generic cuddly toy?
Vukodlak Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 2:17pm I take both and laugh in delicious triumph :D
Err... Anyway...
How about 'Mad World' by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews (originally by Tears for Fears)
Takara Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 2:56pm Donnie Darko?
Vukodlak Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 3:03pm That's the bunny. Go Tak
Takara Wed, 23rd Aug '06, 3:18pm woohoo! First one I've known in a while. Personally I didn't like Donnie Darko, except the mad world cover.
ok.... Roxette - Almost unreal
nior Thu, 24th Aug '06, 7:26am Mario Brothers?
Takara Thu, 24th Aug '06, 11:34am oooh, you got it right. Here was me thinking it might prove tricky, as the Super mario brothers film was truely awful. Shame I went and saw this at the cinema for a date.
nior Fri, 25th Aug '06, 4:30am I never saw the Mario Brothers movie but way way back, I did read an interview with Roxette and they happened to mention it.
Tsk, tsk... why do I always get a go just before the weekend. And this part of the world, we might be having a long weekend, Monday might actually be declared a National Holiday. So...
anybody can have my turn.
Takara Fri, 25th Aug '06, 9:21am why thank you nior, i'll try to pose a harder one, maybe from a film not overly famous.
Villiage people - in the navy

Takara Fri, 25th Aug '06, 1:35pm Darr! And I thought it might be tricky. Go ahead you...you... clever chappie you.
DarkStrider Fri, 25th Aug '06, 1:51pm Woohoo and I'll go in a different direction
Good Times - INXS

DarkStrider Tue, 29th Aug '06, 11:03am No need Tak, sisters are sometimes useful, according to one of mine, this comes from America's Sweethearts?
Takara Tue, 29th Aug '06, 12:35pm The film with John Cusack and Julia Robberts? saw that once, quite enjoyed it.
DarkStrider Tue, 29th Aug '06, 1:21pm And Catherine Zeta-Jones, yeah, meant to watch, haven't caught up with it yet.
Harbourboy Tue, 29th Aug '06, 6:47pm That's right, DarkStrider did not need any hints, because he is right. America's Sweethearts it is. John Cusack rules. Your turn.
DarkStrider Tue, 29th Aug '06, 7:19pm Also Sprach Zarathustra - Richard Strauss
The Magpie Tue, 29th Aug '06, 7:39pm Close Encounters of the Third Kind?
DarkStrider Tue, 29th Aug '06, 7:50pm Nope
Takara Tue, 29th Aug '06, 8:13pm On that theme: 2001 a space odessy?

Takara Tue, 29th Aug '06, 8:34pm A moving scene. OK, to get tougher.....
Skunk Anansie - Selling jesus
Takara Wed, 30th Aug '06, 10:03pm Well well well, I have finally posted a tricky one. :D ok, first hint: this is rule 2, Skunk Anansie appear in this film. Most of their performance of this song was cut by the director, but you do see Skin a couple of times.
nior Thu, 31st Aug '06, 4:15am Aaargh. I don't even know who Skunk Anansie or Skin is/are.
Vukodlak Thu, 31st Aug '06, 8:41am Strange days?
Takara Thu, 31st Aug '06, 9:29am You go it!, not as hard as i'd like, but........
Vukodlak Thu, 31st Aug '06, 5:55pm Ok, now for:
Bring your Daugther to the Slaughter - by Bruce Dickinson
DarkStrider Thu, 31st Aug '06, 6:10pm Bride of Chucky?
Vukodlak Sun, 3rd Sep '06, 11:42am Nope, right genre though...
Stardust Sun, 3rd Sep '06, 12:45pm A nightmare on Elm street 5 (dream child or something).

Stardust Mon, 4th Sep '06, 8:11am Totally right, quite easy wasn't it?
Anyhow your turn Rabbitman.
Death Rabbit Mon, 4th Sep '06, 8:17am 'Sugarhigh' by Coyote Shivers
Stardust Mon, 4th Sep '06, 12:56pm I know it, must resist...
Takara Mon, 4th Sep '06, 1:11pm Coyotee ugly?
Death Rabbit Mon, 4th Sep '06, 2:41pm Nope.
DarkStrider Mon, 4th Sep '06, 3:17pm Empire Records - a surprisingly good film for its cheesiness
Enagonios Tue, 5th Sep '06, 5:03am wasn't "til i hear it from you" by the gin blossoms the main song from Empire Records?
Death Rabbit Tue, 5th Sep '06, 5:47am Yes and no...Sugarhigh was far more significant to the movie, even though 'Til I Hear It From You' was the biggest single from the film.
Anyhoo - DS gets a surplus silicone breast implant on a stick. Yeah, we ran out of balloons over here. :heh:
DarkStrider Tue, 5th Sep '06, 10:27am Yay
I'm going classical again and I'll name 2 pieces because they both represent the film
Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff
and
Seigfried's Funeral March from Gotterdammerung bu Richard Wagner
nior Tue, 5th Sep '06, 11:54am Conan the Barbarian or was it Conan the Destroyer?
DarkStrider Tue, 5th Sep '06, 12:10pm Sorry nior neither of the Conans
nior Tue, 5th Sep '06, 12:58pm Excalibur?
DarkStrider Tue, 5th Sep '06, 1:42pm Yes Excalibur, The Wagner piece opens the film and is always present when Excalibur is shown, as it contains the sword motif so prominently. The Orff piece is when the knights are charging, it starts softly and builds to a crescendo, used most effectively after Perceval brings the Grail to Arthur, as they're riding out, the land blossoms again.
nior Wed, 6th Sep '06, 3:32am Yay! Ok, here's the next one.
A Love Before Time - Coco Lee
Stardust Wed, 6th Sep '06, 2:29pm Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon if I'm not totally wrong.
nior Thu, 7th Sep '06, 4:05am Stardust, you are totally correct.
Stardust Thu, 7th Sep '06, 9:45am Six Blade Knife - Dire Straits
Takara Thu, 7th Sep '06, 12:25pm Darr! A group I love, yet a song I dont know. The best film using Dire Straits was Spy Game, and that was Brother's in arms.
DarkStrider Thu, 7th Sep '06, 12:40pm That's Desperado if I'm not barking mad
Stardust Thu, 7th Sep '06, 2:57pm Your not mad at all DS thats desperado allright.
Have a dragon on a stick.
DarkStrider Thu, 7th Sep '06, 3:23pm Ooh Dragon on a stick, there's brave
Softball time
Teenage Dirtbag - Wheatus
Takara Thu, 7th Sep '06, 10:14pm Signs?
DarkStrider Thu, 7th Sep '06, 10:36pm Nope
Saber Fri, 8th Sep '06, 12:17am Man, I have some great ones, but I can't figure any of these out... I'll just have to wait for an easy one :)
Death Rabbit Fri, 8th Sep '06, 1:54am This is from "Loser," starring the pie-f*cker. :D
DarkStrider Fri, 8th Sep '06, 10:14am Indeed and the delicious Miss Suvari, have a generic cuddly toy :rolling:
Enagonios Fri, 8th Sep '06, 10:35am man, i knew that one :bang:
Takara Fri, 8th Sep '06, 5:39pm Well, no wonder I really had no clue. Never even heard of it.
Death Rabbit Fri, 8th Sep '06, 5:58pm You aren't missing much, Tak - believe me. It was pretty stupid (both the song and the flick).
"Walls (Circus)" by Tom Petty
Takara Sat, 9th Sep '06, 2:41pm The only Tom Petty song I can think of is Free falling.
Death Rabbit Sat, 9th Sep '06, 6:51pm This may actually be kind of a sucky one. This song was from the indy "She's the One," with Ed Burns and Jennifer Aniston. Not the most well known.
Let's try another one:
"Fight the Power" by Public Enemy
Takara Sun, 10th Sep '06, 2:56pm I wouldn't know the previous film, and the new one strikes no chords.
DarkStrider Mon, 11th Sep '06, 10:56am I think it might be He Got Game?
Death Rabbit Mon, 11th Sep '06, 1:31pm Nope - but you're on the right track.
DarkStrider Mon, 11th Sep '06, 3:01pm Inside Man or
Do the right thing or
Mo'better blues or
malcolm X
That's all the Spike Lee films I can think of
Death Rabbit Tue, 12th Sep '06, 3:26pm Come on, you know how this works. Pick one.
DarkStrider Tue, 12th Sep '06, 3:53pm Ok ok I'll use deduction, I saw Inside Man and don't remember any HD-rap, Mo'better blues nah it's got the blues, Malccom X don't remember it using rap, so I'm left with
Do the right Thing?
Or completely wrong
Death Rabbit Wed, 13th Sep '06, 7:28pm You're up, Sherlock. :p
DarkStrider Wed, 13th Sep '06, 8:27pm Stealer's Wheel - Stuck in the middle with you
Takara Wed, 13th Sep '06, 8:29pm hehe, a song i was gonna post myself. Resevoir dogs.
