View Full Version : Random Music Babbling Post #4 Beren Thu, 7th Sep '06, 9:34am I don't think German ever sounded as cool as it does in Du Hast. Arabwel Thu, 7th Sep '06, 2:10pm I seriously need to gget my hands on Dima Bilan's latest album. BAD. ... yes, I am a sucker for the pretty. Shush. Susipaisti Thu, 7th Sep '06, 3:44pm I heard a song by Sodom called City of God. I think the vocals were the weakest link, but the music was quite good, especially the solos. I might look into that band some more at some point. From the previous thread: I haven't heard the new Maiden album yet, what is it like in comparison to the last two?Long songs, longer songs and even longer songs! In general direction, more of the same, but in a good way. I'd say it's more "focused", if that makes sense. And Dickinson's really crazy with his pipes. Decados Thu, 7th Sep '06, 5:39pm I'm not sure if I could include you, though, looking through, you don't seem to have very many posts here. Nah, I wouldn't include me. I haven't posted enough to really qualify for this count. It's EPIC!!! I think this is Maiden's most progressive album ever. Hmm, before this one DoD was the most progressive and it failed to impress me. However epic does tend to be good... say it's more "focused", if that makes sense. And Dickinson's really crazy with his pipes. It does make sense to me at least. Well it sounds good so maybe I'll give it a go. Reassuring to know that the Air Raid Siren is still going strong. Susipaisti Thu, 7th Sep '06, 8:01pm There are a couple of samples on their page. Different World is very straightforward, but Brighter Than A Thousand Suns is a bit proggy. The little game they have there plays bits of songs as well. www.ironmaiden.com (http://www.ironmaiden.com) Saber Fri, 8th Sep '06, 12:16am Barg! The last.fm client isn't working on my computer, so its not recording my music. Arabwel Fri, 8th Sep '06, 2:39am Saber, try a reinstall? Disciple of The Watch Fri, 8th Sep '06, 4:53am My friend lent me a Brujeira (sp?) album, and one of those songs is actually Macarena, but with the lyrics changed... it's now Marijuana. It's... odd, but surprisingly good. Cúchulainn Fri, 8th Sep '06, 1:52pm I am going to ban myself from listening to Lordi. Most of the songs get stuck in my head. Time for some Edge of Sanity :D Decados Fri, 8th Sep '06, 5:45pm @Susipaisti: I tried their site before but the songs never worked for me. A screen flashed up and disappeared, but the song itself never worked. Odd. Disciple of The Watch Fri, 8th Sep '06, 6:35pm Crammed my MuVo full of Burzum, Ildjarn, DarkThrone and Bathory. Black Metal Ist Krieg! Arabwel Fri, 8th Sep '06, 7:04pm Nooo, Cú, donöt stop! Come to the dark side, we have cookies! And hot monsters! Undertaker Fri, 8th Sep '06, 8:26pm As for me it would reqiure tons of cookies to persuade me to listen to Lordi instead of all those new albums I got recently :p Saber Fri, 8th Sep '06, 8:43pm Ara, when I try to reinstall last.fm, it says it is running and wants me to close it. But it doesn't show up on the task manager, and when I try to stop the process (in the tm), it won't. Blah. Arabwel Fri, 8th Sep '06, 10:29pm *gets out her baking supplies* Let's see.. peanut butter - check, oatmeal - check, double chocolate chip - check... think i am going to persuade you with these, Undertaker? :D Saber, i don't relaly know how to help, then. :( Undertaker Fri, 8th Sep '06, 11:35pm Since I'm listening to new Vader album you must try harder Ara ;) Arabwel Sun, 10th Sep '06, 2:35pm Curses, foiled again! ´ Disciple of The Watch Sun, 10th Sep '06, 8:57pm Curses, foiled again! I'm starting to think you're the Prince of Thieves, Ara. new Vader album Haven't got a chance to listen to it. What do you think of it, so far? Undertaker Sun, 10th Sep '06, 9:38pm @DotW: It rocks! Harbourboy Sun, 10th Sep '06, 9:41pm Cool, my wife bought me a thing that lets me play my iPod in the car. Excellent. Undertaker Sun, 10th Sep '06, 9:45pm What kind of thing? Harbourboy Sun, 10th Sep '06, 10:52pm A thing that plugs into the cigarette lighter and send a signal from the iPod to the car radio. Saber Mon, 11th Sep '06, 4:36am RoadTrip? I have one (well, its my sister's, but she's at college without a car, so its mine now), but the car I drive does not have a working cigarette lighter... Cúchulainn Mon, 11th Sep '06, 2:25pm My Creative Zen was acting up today, so I gave him a little prod in the side with a paperclip and he's behaving himself again. Spare the prod, spoil the Zen. [ September 11, 2006, 15:52: Message edited by: Cúchulainn ] Decados Mon, 11th Sep '06, 3:13pm Another Zen user? I found that mine bounces this morning. After a moment of worry, it worked fine again though. Tough little thing, even survived me emptying a large glass of water over it. :D Persuader's latest album really does kick some serious butt. kuemper Wed, 13th Sep '06, 12:30am OMG, I ran into Alan Doyle (http://www.gbsfanatic.com/bioalan.html) of Great Big Sea at the grocery store! Saber Wed, 13th Sep '06, 4:10am I had a weird daydream about meeting Unearth. And the guitarist looks kind of like Alan Doyle, or at least in the top picture. It felt like deja vu... Undertaker Wed, 13th Sep '06, 5:17pm 2 weeks till Vader concert  Decados Wed, 13th Sep '06, 6:10pm Tickets for Maiden at the end of the year have arrived! Trivium will be there too, but I have some ear-plugs somewhere around here... theGodless Wed, 13th Sep '06, 6:17pm I saw Mnemic play this weekend, despite their lead singer being recently replaced they put up one hell of a gig. Saber Thu, 14th Sep '06, 4:13am Trivium will be there too, but I have some ear-plugs somewhere around here... They don't scream any more. He has a medical condition, so its old school thrash from now on. Expect Metallica-esque stuff. Decados Thu, 14th Sep '06, 11:57am I heard about the lack of screaming- I'm still quite thankful. I knew he would eventually harm his throat but didn't realise that he had done so yet. I simply thought that he was taking Metallica-worship a step further by attempting to sing like them. Rather boring lack of originality, but it is better that they play like Metallica than much of the rubbish that they could be playing like. shadow lurker Thu, 14th Sep '06, 2:51pm How famous is Rammstein (sp?). 'Cause I don't know of anyone who knows of them other than my brother and sister and their friends...but it seems well known...? Decados Thu, 14th Sep '06, 8:32pm They are very well known over here. Well, kinda: the people who like dance or pop tend not to have much idea, but everyone else knows 'em. As far as I'm aware, they are well known across Europe- I don't know about the USA. Rammstein rock. Saber Thu, 14th Sep '06, 11:31pm I like them :D And as for Trivium, I take it you don't like metalcore or screaming metal? I found his voice annoying after 3 straight songs of Trivium, but overall I like them. I don't like their new sound, it sounds like a crappy thrash knock off. Undertaker Fri, 15th Sep '06, 7:30pm You know that Iron Maiden's new album is probably the best selling CD in many countries? Long live metal \m/(><)\m/ Decados Fri, 15th Sep '06, 9:25pm I take it you don't like metalcore or screaming metal? Nah, I'm afraid not. Some of their older stuff was ok until the singing started, but overall it wasn't my thing. I think it was Rain (or possibly Departure?) that had a good start that I quite enjoyed, almost got into it. And then he opened his mouth. The two new Amon Amarth songs sound pretty good, I think I may treat mysef to their latest offering when it is released (I don't think it is out yet). Saber Sat, 16th Sep '06, 4:25am You know that Iron Maiden's new album is probably the best selling CD in many countries? Thats unfortunate, because they suck. If a good metal band had a top selling album, I would praise them. But Iron Maiden? Pah. Nah, I'm afraid not.To each his own, and to me, the best. I mean, I like screaming :D Undertaker Sat, 16th Sep '06, 8:49am Iron Maiden don't suck! Decados Sat, 16th Sep '06, 12:13pm Hmm, Saber likes screaming vocals and thinks Maiden suck... Ladies and gents, I propose to send Saber back to Metal Academy where he can be re-educated. Next you'll say Priest suck and Halford has lost it. ;) Disciple of The Watch Sat, 16th Sep '06, 7:28pm I'm not a Maiden fan either. But Priest definitly pwns - I especially enjoyed the Ripper era. Demolition was rated as a bad album, but it's pretty damn good. In fact, it's playing in the background as I write this. Halford Priest and Ripper Priest are different, yet both are great. Saber Sat, 16th Sep '06, 7:46pm Ladies and gents, I propose to send Saber back to Metal Academy where he can be re-educatedI dropped out twice already :) But hey, you like classic metal, and I don't. Or rather, the only classic metal band I don't like is Maiden. So :p . And screaming vocals are very metal... Decados Sat, 16th Sep '06, 9:23pm And screaming vocals are very crappy ... Yes, I agree very much. :p I think we are just gonna have to disagree on this one. Even though we both know I'm in the right. ;) Any Savatage fans out here? Disciple of The Watch Sun, 17th Sep '06, 10:03pm Ehh, one of my friends is in a Scorpions mood. Thanks to that, I'm stuck with Wind of Change in my head.      Time to fire up a Burzum vinyl... Arabwel Sun, 17th Sep '06, 10:32pm I got a tentative promise from the roadie of Lordi that I am getting backstage in London - color Ara VERY happy. In other news, less than a week till I get to see W.A.S.P. live :D :D :D Disciple of The Watch Tue, 19th Sep '06, 6:55pm I had forgotten how great Doom Metal was. Decados Wed, 20th Sep '06, 9:15pm Bah! I've been gone four days and only three posts occured? Listened to a couple of tracks of Trivium's new album. I am pleasantly surprised to note that they weren't half as bad as I feared. Perhaps I won't have to take ear-plugs to the concert later this year after all. Tassadar Thu, 21st Sep '06, 11:57pm Anyone have the Arch Enemy live DVD? Arabwel Sat, 23rd Sep '06, 4:33am well, I went to see W.A.S.P. live. andall i have to say is OMG MG OMG Blackie lawless is GOD and I want to have his babies! 'ahem* the warmup acts were also good... Daycrest and Tarot anyway (Tarot = teh awesome) but the estonian act, Gates of pain? lousy. and poorlty placed -they got lukewarmest reception I have EVER seen since they were between Tarot and W.A.S.P. and - guess who has one of Blackie Lawless' picks? :D Decados Tue, 26th Sep '06, 5:20pm ^ Tarot? Hell yeah! Unfortunately one of those kick-ass bands who's cds are hard to get a hold of. Susipaisti Fri, 29th Sep '06, 3:47pm There's supposed to be two Down releases coming out soon. Wish there were more specific information available. And has Anselmo fully recovered yet, I wonder. Undertaker Fri, 29th Sep '06, 5:14pm Vader live kicks ass all the way! :D Saber Sat, 30th Sep '06, 1:40am Got the leaked Killswitch sampler... I am listening to it right now, so I will let you know how it is in a little bit. Disciple of The Watch Sat, 30th Sep '06, 5:07am And has Anselmo fully recovered yet, I wonder. Something happened to Uncle Phil? Stuck with Slayer's Spirit In Black in my head... at least it's a good song. TrueBlueAussie Sat, 30th Sep '06, 6:28am Just bought the Revelations album. So far it is pretty damn good. Susipaisti Sat, 30th Sep '06, 3:41pm Something happened to Uncle Phil?I read on the forums on the Down site that he's had major back surgery and hasn't been able to scream like he used to as a result. I sure hope it gets sorted out. Decados Sat, 30th Sep '06, 5:22pm Vader live kicks ass all the way! I see you enjoyed the concert then. ;) I'd like to take this opportunity to once again reccomend Persuader to anyone who has not yet heard them. Disciple of The Watch Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 6:44am I read on the forums on the Down site that he's had major back surgery and hasn't been able to scream like he used to as a result. I sure hope it gets sorted out. Hmm... yeah, hope it sorts out good. BTW, is the second Down album any good? I definitively digged Nola. Also, there are rumors of work beginning on a new album this year - any truth in that? Graveworm ****ing pwns. I've been listening to the first EP and two first LPs again and again. This stuff is great! Cúchulainn Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 9:47am I got M-16 by Sodom and its actually quite good. I am not sure about Inferno by Entombed at the moment. Perhaps it will grown on me. At the moment I am really into Luca Turilli. Warrior of the World Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 10:36am I'm quite liking Amon Amarth at the moment. I managed to pick up their new album the other day for £8. Decados Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 4:00pm ^ I'm considering getting with my next cd purchases (so much music, so little money). As I certainly enjoyed Vs the World, would you recommend it? Undertaker Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 6:49pm Lol, Shaun Steels had left My Dying Bride. I can't say I'm suprized by this info, though. Susipaisti Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 10:02pm BTW, is the second Down album any good? I definitively digged Nola. Also, there are rumors of work beginning on a new album this year - any truth in that?I'm a huge fan of the second album, but I think Nola is better. Uncle Phil's vocals are obviously different because there's seven-odd years in between - making a Pantera comparison, his voice is less like Trendkill and more like Reinventing the Steel, plus he's singing more and screaming less. There's quite a few mellow songs, a southern vibe going on. Kirk Windstein talked about having demos, but there's no release date yet. The Down page hasn't been updated in a while and the forums are a bit chaotic. Tassadar Wed, 4th Oct '06, 10:37pm Got the leaked Killswitch sampler... I am listening to it right now, so I will let you know how it is in a little bit. Any good? How's the guitar tone? Saber Thu, 5th Oct '06, 2:21am It was not impressive, lets put it that way. It sounds fine, but it is not exciting or anything. I think it was an attempt to basically turn back to old KSE (Alive or Just Breathing), but with Howard on vocals. Hopefully the full CD is much better. Warrior of the World Fri, 6th Oct '06, 11:09pm As I certainly enjoyed Vs the World, would you recommend it? I'd certainly recommend it. Decados Sun, 8th Oct '06, 8:27pm Well, I took WotW's recommendation and added Amon Amarth to my list of cds purchases. Ordered the following this morning: Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth Savatage - Dead Winter Dead Virgin Steele - The House Of Atreus I Ayreon - The Human Equation Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side Master of Nuhn Sun, 8th Oct '06, 11:37pm Ayreon is the only one in that list I really like. I was quite surprised i would actually like anything of that genre. The Human Equation is Arjen Lucassen's best, IMO. I love the Teaser Trailer here in the left list. (http://www.ayreon.com/thehumanequation/) "No barbarians. No castlehalls" etc. :D Saber Mon, 9th Oct '06, 6:46pm Listening to the Baldur's Gate 2 soundtrack :thumb: Undertaker Mon, 9th Oct '06, 8:45pm IWD soundtrack is far better :p Disciple of The Watch Tue, 10th Oct '06, 5:48am You guys are nuts - nothing comes close to the Morrowind soundtrack. Undertaker Tue, 10th Oct '06, 6:31pm Soon I will lay my hands on new My Dying Bride album  Saber Wed, 11th Oct '06, 4:02am Tenacious D rocks :) Mesmero Wed, 11th Oct '06, 8:56am Tenacious D rocks [Smile]Hell yeah! They are like modern day geniuses. And only about a month to go to the best movie ever made. (http://www.tenaciousdmovie.com) Daie d'Malkin Wed, 11th Oct '06, 9:52am Decados, A Twist in the Myth is great. Undertaker Sun, 15th Oct '06, 10:37pm Got the new My Dying Bride Album  Also there are some interesting line-up changes in Iced Earth plus the writing of the new album is going very well :D Disciple of The Watch Sun, 15th Oct '06, 11:22pm Got the new My Dying Bride Album What do you think so far? Also there are some interesting line-up changes in Iced Earth plus the writing of the new album is going very well Hmm... not Ripper Owens, I hope? Decados Mon, 16th Oct '06, 4:59pm Hmm... not Ripper Owens, I hope? Nope, the Ripper is still around. There's been a drummer change- Bobby Jarzombek is out and Brent Smedley is back in (he played on AiA). Additionally, Ernie Carletti is out already due to a 'personal situation'. I seem to recall reading something about rape, but nothing is confirmed on the band's website and I can no longer remember where I read that. The new guitarist is a UK player called Tim Mills. From the site: He's here now and we're really inspiring each other and coming up with some great parts together. It's been a very long time since I've felt this kind of chemistry and I'm very psyched about it. It's an ingredient that's been missing for a very long time , so it should bring some very cool results. Which is excellent news. At least Schaffer has realised that the spark has been missing these last few years. Going by the sounds of it, this new guitarist may just be the thing Iced Earth needed to sound fresh once more. Undertaker Mon, 16th Oct '06, 6:00pm quote: Got the new My Dying Bride Album What do you think so far? It's pretty good Hmm... not Ripper Owens, I hope?I wouldn't mind if Barlow would be his replacement :p Disciple of The Watch Wed, 18th Oct '06, 5:49am 'Taker, which other MDB album could it be compared to? I'm a sucker for the first MDB albums... Meh, of course Matt Barlow was a god... but Ripper Owens is pretty darn good too. I simply digged his work on Judas Priest's "Demolition". Kitrax Wed, 18th Oct '06, 9:49am I'm going backwards in time... Well, at least in the music that I used to listen to. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of my old Offspring, Sublime, and Korn albums. It feels like I'm stuck in a musical ditch when it comes to new music. Everything I hear on the radio these days sucks. However, I do like that new Iron Maiden song they play on occasion. Other than that, all this new music is annoying. :bad: :rolling: Cúchulainn Wed, 18th Oct '06, 10:02am My brother just purchased The Glorious Burden and I was very disappointed. Bagpipes (unless done by Gravedigger) should be banned from metal and the banjo made me cringe. I can imagine right-wing fanatics pumping their fists at some of the lyrics. Do we need another version of the 'Star Bangled Banner'? Jimi Hendrix did it best. Decados Wed, 18th Oct '06, 12:57pm TGB teaches you where the skip button is. The album does have some good stuff- the Reckoning, Attila and the trilogy- but also has some very low points. When the Eagles Cries still makes me want to weep in disgust. Cúchulainn Wed, 18th Oct '06, 1:22pm Something Wicked was great though, but it all went downhill after the (extremely) tacky Horror Show  Undertaker Wed, 18th Oct '06, 7:13pm @DotW: It's closest to their previous album: "Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light" As for Iced Earth and "Horror Show", it wasn't their best album but some of songs there very really cool (Damnien, Dracula, The Phantom Of The Opera Ghost). Of course they will never record an album better then "Burnt Offerings" :p Saber Wed, 18th Oct '06, 9:22pm Who else wants to wear a mask and scream on Helloween? Undertaker Wed, 18th Oct '06, 10:06pm What do you mean by that? Disciple of The Watch Thu, 19th Oct '06, 1:19am @DotW: It's closest to their previous album: "Songs Of Darkness, Words Of Light" Haven't listened to that one... the last MDB album I fired was The Light At The End of The World. Of course they will never record an album better then "Burnt Offerings" You wish. Nothing beats The Dark Saga. Saber Thu, 19th Oct '06, 2:47am What do you mean by that? Its from Helloween's Come Alive. Cúchulainn Thu, 19th Oct '06, 9:12am John Shaffer is a liar, he once said in an interview that 'When the eagle cries' was banned in Europe because of its 11/9 lyrics. No John the song was not banned at all, and the cheesy lyrics made me want to vomit  Undertaker Thu, 19th Oct '06, 5:36pm Damm! Another metal soul dies this year, this time it's Jared Anderson link (http://www.metalstorm.ee/events/news_comments.php?news_id=3602) Disciple of The Watch Thu, 19th Oct '06, 6:53pm Yeah... I heard about that. Damn, the guy was only 30! One mighty fine bassman down. Peace to your soul, Jared. Warrior of the World Thu, 19th Oct '06, 8:15pm Its from Helloween's Come Alive. What about Helloween's Halloween? Saber Fri, 20th Oct '06, 3:42am I only have one Helloween album, Keeper of the Seven Keys - The Legacy, which is apparently not as good as I or II, which I have yet to pick up. Warrior of the World Sat, 21st Oct '06, 1:49pm My copy of A Twist in the Myth arrived today. Though inexplicably, the first thing that greeted me when I opened the box was a German womens' fashion catalogue. I'm about to listen to it now. Saber Sat, 21st Oct '06, 7:04pm Saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers last night! They were sweet, even though they had to stop early because they got there late (last trains were leaving). It erased the memory of the ****ty Mars Volta that 'played' before them. Susipaisti Sun, 22nd Oct '06, 2:20pm The last two Helloween albums haven't been too great. The old stuff is the best, as well as the first three albums with Andi Deris. The Dark Ride is good, but not very Helloweeny. Avoid Pink Bubbles Go Ape and Chameleon. Decados Sun, 22nd Oct '06, 6:43pm @Susipaisti: But then you'd miss Heavy Metal Hamsters! @Warrior: My copy of A Twist in the Myth arrived today. Took me a couple of listens to really get it, but now I just can't seem to get Otherland out of my head. Bloody good song. I don't think I thanked you for recommending With Oden on our Side to me. I was going to leave Amon Amarth to a later purchase, but after listening to the album I am glad you convinced me otherwise. So, thanks! Some thoughts about the other albums I recently purchased: The Human Equation is very good- the entire thing comes alive when you read the lyrics book at the same time as listening. Besides, getting a slightly less metallic album is pleasant for a change. The House of Atreus is also good, though not as much. Doesn't strike me as amazingly great, but does have some kick-ass riffs. Not enough falsetto though, IMO. Savatage's Dead Winter Dead is on a par with tHE. Had me grinning right through it. Again, this is an album that you should read the booklet to get what's going on to fully appreciate everything. And finally, on the Iced Earth theme: I'm with Undertaker on this- Burnt Offerings beats every other studio album they've released, although Night of the Stormrider is very close. Cúchulainn Mon, 23rd Oct '06, 9:30am I always preferred Gamma Ray to Helloween, but I agree that their early albums are the best. Metal Black by Venom is a good album, but I don't think it will be a classic. Daie d'Malkin Mon, 23rd Oct '06, 4:38pm Decados, Turn the Page and Fly are awesome too. Got the new(ish) Rhapsody album today. OhboyOhboyOhboyOhboyOhboyOhboy! Decados Tue, 24th Oct '06, 12:18am Indeed they are, Daie, indeed they are. Rhapsody? :toofar: Rhapsody of Fire! I wouldn't have bothered commenting, except that the name change was silly enough to be chuckled at whenever Rhapsody werre mentioned. What made it even better was Nanowar mocking them afterwards. Daie d'Malkin Tue, 24th Oct '06, 12:22am Mocking them? *Arms self* Where? Warrior of the World Tue, 24th Oct '06, 1:01am *Ahem* That's Nanowar of Steel now. A Twist in the Myth is a really good album, I must say. *EDIT* Now it's no longer past my bedtime, I shall expand a bit. I've been disappointed recently with new music being released (Rhapsody, Dragonforce, among others), but I have to say that once again, Blind Guardian have restored my faith in good music. They are one of very few bands, in my opinion, to have consistently released new, interesting, and overall, pretty amazing albums. I think Turn the Page, Fly and Another Stranger Me are fast becoming my favourites, though the whole album is worth it, something that rarely happens, apart from Bal-Sagoth releases, of course. Having heard the album, I now wish that I had gone to see them in Dublin after all, but at least they are playing Wacken next year. Darkthrone has one of the most horrible sounds ever, yet it remains unbelievably great BM. As for Pantera... everything after Cowboys (which I seriously disliked) rocks, except Reinventing. But that's another story. Saber Sat, 4th Nov '06, 6:14pm Wow, just listened to Trivium's The Crusade. It is boring at best, and downright crap during most of the album. The drumming was mediocre, and the vocals SUCK. His singing voice is fine, but when he tries to do thrash vocals, he fails. Basically, if you want to hear a bad Metallica rip off, listen to this album. The only thing that sounds like the good ol' Trivium are the solos. But even those flop. Theprp.com (http://www.theprp.com/reviews/trivium1.shtml) has an accurate review (except they think the drumming is alright, I think it sucks). Disciple of The Watch Sat, 4th Nov '06, 6:52pm I just finished listening to the new Hatebreed album... there are a few good songs, but unfortunatly, it continues in the same vein than Rise, which I immensely disliked. I just don't like that technical hardcore crap. F*** technique, bring back brutal hardcore! Daie d'Malkin Tue, 7th Nov '06, 1:58am Okay, found the band Xandria while doing some hunting for Cds on Amazon. ANy good, bearing in mind that I'm a Nightwish, Lacuna Coil and Within Temptation fan... Saber Tue, 7th Nov '06, 2:19am Hey DotW, I just started listening to The New Order... Hypnosis is definately orgasmithrash. Good stuff :thumb: Cúchulainn Tue, 7th Nov '06, 9:38am Not long till I see W.A.S.P. live in Belfast :D Unforutnately the concert is the day before I fly to Newark so I better not drink too much  Disciple of The Watch Wed, 8th Nov '06, 5:40am Hey DotW, I just started listening to The New Order... I bought the album India, by Xandria, and it is realyl good. Similar to Within Temptation and Leaves' Eyes. I;d recommend it to anyone who likes that kind of thing. Cúchulainn Fri, 10th Nov '06, 9:17am Sounds good. I thought the first Leaves' Eyes album was excellent. Arabwel Fri, 10th Nov '06, 11:38pm Well, I guess I should report here about what I did on my vacation, music-wise :p Saw WASP again, and this time, got even more picks. Mike Duda seemed to like me since he kept aiming tham at me :D Also saw Lordi, and am still POd I was not at the front. it was one hell of a show nevertheless - and they had kalma on stage for encore. *faints* Third badn i saw was Tempest - a relatively recent band, but they have a VERY impressive lineup. as in - Paul James in vocals/guitar, Graham Oliver on lead guitar, Mark DeVenche on keyboards, Simon Hodges on the bass, and Paul Graham on the drums? :D They are VERY good. (and nice guys. Graham Oliver was most impressive when he was hitting on me at the pub afterwards :p ) all in all, very musical trip. I seem to have gotten a thing for gigs... caus I am going to see iron Maiden next week, and Teräsbetoni on the 24th. :p Saber Fri, 10th Nov '06, 11:55pm Hey guys, why do people think Dimmu Borgir sold out? Undertaker Sat, 11th Nov '06, 11:07am For money? :p Or maybe they wanted to be better then Cradle Of Filth Saber Sat, 11th Nov '06, 5:59pm No, I mean... all their stuff sounds alike. I guess I haven't listened to it enough to get the nuances, but what do people think is sold out about them? Is it less black metal and more symphonic, or vice versa, or what? Disciple of The Watch Sat, 11th Nov '06, 7:52pm No, I mean... all their stuff sounds alike Everything after the Devil's Path EP sounds all the same. Nevermind the random and blatantly stupid names they give to their albums. Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia... Death Cult Armageddon... Godless Savage Gardens...? What's with those stupid titles? What will we see next, Pitch Dark Schizophrenia? Saber Sun, 12th Nov '06, 4:31am Speaking of random names... CoB's song called Triple Corpse Hammerblow... Can you guys recommend me some death metal please? I have gotten some stuff recently that says it is death metal, but you know what happens with labels... And I like melodic death metal... good stuff. Most of them are brutal death metal ones. Arabwel Sun, 12th Nov '06, 6:32pm You boys and your death metal... :p Cú, I am jealous. I want to go see W.A.S.P. again... and hey, you should be okay with that flight. When I flew to the UK, I only had time to get cleaned up and change clothes before my plane left :p In other news, I believe I am getting seriously obsessed with Tempest (http://www.myspace.com/tempestrock) - these guys are bloody brilliant :D Undertaker Sun, 12th Nov '06, 8:01pm Death metal is one of the best musical genres! And death metal bands make the best live shows! Cúchulainn Mon, 13th Nov '06, 12:20pm Vader are quite melodic. If you want melodic death try Amon Amarth (just the recent albums). They are amazing. I hate brutal DM - click click click click roar, clicky clicky clicky roar, abrupt stop, click clickty click roar roar roar. Yep cannot wait Ara. I am going to limit myself to 6 Murphies or Hoegarrdens or less and I should be fine. Arabwel Mon, 13th Nov '06, 3:35pm I swear, W.A.S.P. on stage is just... woah. Even better than Lordi :p Looking forward to Iron Maiden tomorrow.... :D Cúchulainn Mon, 13th Nov '06, 3:49pm Iron Maiden tomorrow? Lucky girl... I just got another Lordi album that features 'The Devil Is a Loser' - "The devil is a loser, and hes my *****" Classic :D Arabwel Mon, 13th Nov '06, 5:25pm Yup. Sister is payign for it, too! :p I didn't think i would be able to go since I didn't get tickets when they came out - after all, I was not supposed to be home. But then I was and remembere about the gig and went "daaaaaamn" cause there WERE tickets left on the hat rack but I could not afford it... then went, "Hmm, my sister has the money" and asked for an early combo prezzie for birthday/christmas :D That is one of my favorite Lordi songs.. me an a lot of ther people. Like the girl at the first Lordi gig I went ot who went on about how she loves that song.. and thena sked her friend, "But who the **** is Gene Simmons?" :p Daie d'Malkin Mon, 13th Nov '06, 5:39pm That is one of my favorite Lordi songs.. me an a lot of ther people. Disciple of The Watch Mon, 13th Nov '06, 6:36pm Vader are quite melodic. Err... dude, I want what you're smoking. Vader, melodic? Unless there's been major changes in the new albums (which I haven't listened) last time I listened to Vader it was in-your-face-brutal-death. Saber Mon, 13th Nov '06, 10:18pm What do people consider Bloodbath? Death Metal? Disciple of The Watch Tue, 14th Nov '06, 5:56am What do people consider Bloodbath? Death Metal?Yep, Bloodbath is DM. Ironic to think a member of Bloodbath ended up in Katatonia, though. My housemate seems to enjoy playing Godsmack's Faceless at max volume. Meh, it has a good beat, so I don't care. Cúchulainn Tue, 14th Nov '06, 9:06am Litany is quite melodic. Its still brutal but you can hum along with most songs, unlike cannibal corpse, which is mindless chaos. Decados Tue, 14th Nov '06, 4:01pm Cannibal Corpse? The writers of such well thought out and philosophical lyrics? How could they be described as mindless? :p Thanks for that list, Undertaker, it may be of use to me when looking for some alternative music to my usual. I noticed you mentioned Nile and I recall hearing a fair few good things about one of their albums. Is there something in specific I should be starting with? Cúchulainn Tue, 14th Nov '06, 4:20pm True Egyptian metal from North Carolina :shake: Has anyone mentioned Hypocrisy? Think of the brutality of US death metal, with the melody of and atmosphere of Swedish DM and you have a kick ass heavvvvvvvy band. Undertaker Tue, 14th Nov '06, 6:51pm Nile play sth more then brutal/technical death metal. The band categorizes their music as "Itylphallical Death Metal" in reference to their epic Egyptian themes. I highly recommend this band :thumb: But remember that the best death metal band EVER is (was) Death! All their albums are must have. Disciple of The Watch Tue, 14th Nov '06, 6:57pm Nile is f****** kick ass! But yeah, nothing comes close to the almighty Death. But I'll stick with my old, poorly produced BM, thanks a lot. Undertaker Tue, 14th Nov '06, 7:18pm Yep, Bloodbath is DM. Ironic to think a member of Bloodbath ended up in Katatonia, though.Agree, Bloodbath if pure and brutal death metal (with all those gore lyrics included :p ) But you must remember that 2 of band's members are from Katatonia :p (Bloodbath is in fact a superstar line-up band) Saber Wed, 15th Nov '06, 4:10am Cuch, which albums do you like by Hypocrisy? So far, I really like Virus, but I haven't listened to too much other than that. Cúchulainn Wed, 15th Nov '06, 9:06am That is a cool album, but Abducted and The Arrival are also essential. I am not so keen on their early albums as they sound too primitive. Decados Wed, 15th Nov '06, 6:31pm I highly recommend this band Nile is f****** kick ass! I see I have been missing out. ;) I'll take a look into them when I next purchase a block of cds. Arabwel Wed, 15th Nov '06, 8:58pm Iron Maiden kicked ass. That is all I can say. First, we got to hear all of A Matter of Life And Death, which does not translate well to live i think.. then, we got some classics; Fear of the dark, Iron Maiden, Two Minutes to Midnight, Evil that Men Do and hallwed be Thy name. *gags DotW* yes, I know what their themes are like, and I like them anyway. I am sure some of you guys would like their support band, tho - Trivium. headbanging thrashmetal and overuse of the f-word. Nearly put me to sleep :p And incidentally, only today did I realize that the live version of Fear of the dark i have in my grubby lil' hands has been recoded in helsinki. *shakes head* Saber Wed, 15th Nov '06, 9:03pm Trivium sucks! Their new stuff (thrash) blows... I think I already complained here, but it sounds like a watered-down cover of the old classics... Heafy tries to be all of the thrash gods at once and ends up sounding like a 12 year old choking on alcohol. **** new Trivium. Cúchulainn Thu, 16th Nov '06, 9:05am Trivium are crap, but IM had a worse support band - Marilyn Manson  Glad IM kicked arse. Susipaisti Thu, 16th Nov '06, 12:48pm I couldn't really get into the mood at the Maiden show due to having seats high up. I want floor tickets next time, damn it! Maybe I've seen them too many times. It was a good show and all, interestingly different. A Maiden gig without The Number of the Beast or pyros, who would have thought? I don't like Trivium much, mostly for the same reasons I don't like Children of Bodom. It's wank music. Complexity for its own sake. Look ma, scales and sweep picking! The singer, at best, sounded like a half-assed thrash vocalist - at worst he sounded like he's "doing a voice", if you know what I mean. Like Lordi or something. Hey Saber, could you name a couple of albums that you feel have a really good production (and why)? A page or two back you mentioned not liking the sound of Pantera albums. I happen to find them a bit too sleek, but that's probably not what you mean. Decados Thu, 16th Nov '06, 2:23pm Good to know that Maiden went well for you Ara. I'm seeing them on the 18th of next month. Arabwel Thu, 16th Nov '06, 5:24pm Susipaisti, wherever you were, your tickets werre probably better than mine. Cause i was in the blocj 310, 11th row :p (Of course if it turns out you sat next to me, I am going to boggle) I probably would have prefered marilyn manson to trivium. Cause Manson has always made me cackle a lot :p Cúchulainn Thu, 16th Nov '06, 5:29pm When I was in Dublin a few years back to see Opeth, a friend of mine tried to chat up the singer of Madder Mortem. I don't think she was impressed by him. Arabwel Thu, 16th Nov '06, 5:54pm I've been chatted up by Graham "Rock God" Oliver :p Disciple of The Watch Thu, 16th Nov '06, 7:04pm worse support band - Marilyn Manson Manson ain't that bad - the first couple albums were decent. We all used to listen to that crap during a pseudo-goth era in high school - even I did. A couple of friends and myself decided to reform a new band - this time, it'll be atmospheric BM. I'll try my luck at BM shrieking... but I doubt I'll succeed, so I'll probably simply be a bassman and we'll get a new vocalist, or maybe go instrumental, not sure yet. Decados Thu, 16th Nov '06, 7:40pm One of my friends is intending to get me a t-shirt of a band I like for Xmas. *sigh* 'Tis a nice thought, but she has no chance- not when she doesn't really like any of the stuff I enjoy and therefore doesn't know where to look. Good luck with the band, Disciple! Susipaisti Thu, 16th Nov '06, 9:49pm Arabwel: I was in 305, 7th row. If only I could remember which way the numbers rotated. Yours were either worse than mine or just bad in a different way, I guess. Arabwel Thu, 16th Nov '06, 10:04pm You were five blocks to my right, then. I think your seats were worse cause you were at an angle - i had a perfect view on the stage except for the whole bing really relaly far off thing. THey looked so TINY! Tassadar Thu, 16th Nov '06, 10:57pm Alpine Fault. Those guys rock. Saber Thu, 16th Nov '06, 11:14pm Hey Saber, could you name a couple of albums that you feel have a really good production (and why)? A page or two back you mentioned not liking the sound of Pantera albums. I happen to find them a bit too sleek, but that's probably not what you meanHmmm, I don't mean poor production on those albums like on DT's Skydancer/Of Chaos and Eternal Night, which are poorly recorded and sounds like a garbled piece of crap. For Pantera, I don't like the way the guitars sound - the distortion makes it difficult to hear specific notes, it jumbles things together. Its not poor production, which I probably shouldn't have said, but poor... I'm not sure. I like Pantera plenty, but the sound of the guitars reminds me of poorly recorded albums, even though I don't think they were. Tassadar Fri, 17th Nov '06, 12:08am Dimebag used to scoop a ton of mids on his guitar tone to get that chainsaw effect. It's pretty much just bass and screeching treble. Cúchulainn Fri, 17th Nov '06, 9:47am I didn't mind the production on Skydancer, it was the lack of memorable songs. I like catchy music be it black metal, or traditional folk music. One day I am going to have to get one of the Roma's in Belfast to play some Moonsorrow with their accordions :D On a different note, Whisper Lillith is the sexiest singer ever  I should take a trip to Finland since Soulgrind never play in the UK/Ireland. Susipaisti Fri, 17th Nov '06, 11:42am Dime was a transistor guy, so I guess it is to be expected that there's less of a chug than with valves. There's a lot of definition in his lead sound, though, and the squealing harmonics. Try to get a natural harmonic on the 2nd fret, like at the end of Cemetery Gates, and to hold it for that long...that's tricky. What bothers me about the Pantera sound is the overall feeling of sterileness. I think it's mostly due to the drums having been processed and compressed too much. Plus the close-up mics seem to completely override the sound of the room. Arabwel Fri, 17th Nov '06, 11:55am Cú, you should give a go to Turisas then - they play folk metal.. With accordions :D Cúchulainn Fri, 17th Nov '06, 12:44pm I already have the 'Battle Metal' album. I didn't like it at first so I swapped it for Shape of Despair, only to miss it a few months later, so I had to purchase another copy. How was sunny Newry BTW? Arabwel Fri, 17th Nov '06, 6:31pm I saw Turisas live in London and then later got stuck at an aiprport with them. Not that i did more than went to ask autographs and tell them they were awesome, but boy were they nice guys in a situation where they had all the reasons to tell anyone, let alone a crazy!fangirl, to bugger off - their instruments were left in London and it was 5 am... :p And I never made it to Newry. :( Will have to rememdy that once they give me that helldesk monkey job in the Republic :p [ November 18, 2006, 00:10: Message edited by: Arabwel ] Saber Sun, 19th Nov '06, 6:00am Anyone like Sentenced? Arabwel Sun, 19th Nov '06, 6:13am Sentenced is pretty damn good. I still feel bad about not making it to their last gigs. Disciple of The Watch Sun, 19th Nov '06, 6:26am Anyone like Sentenced? Actually, I prefer The Black League, the band Taneli formed after leaving Sentenced. I like the dark ambiance of the couple first albums, and I simply love the nods to Tiamat, which I am a big fan of. I don't mean poor production on those albums like on DT's Skydancer/Of Chaos and Eternal Night, which are poorly recorded and sounds like a garbled piece of crap. Judge music by the feeling put into it, not the production. I don't give a f*** if an album sounds like crap if it has a good feeling to it. Decados Sun, 19th Nov '06, 1:31pm This is odd. I'm finding myself rather enjoying some stuff that Evanesence and HIM have released. If nothing else, both have capable singers. I guess it makes a fair counterpoint to some of the other suff I listen to, but I find myself wondering if this is something that will pass in a couple of weeks or whether I actually enjoy that stuff. Time will tell I guess. Arabwel Sun, 19th Nov '06, 10:36pm I am SO looking forward to Tempest going on tour - they've pretty much promised that they will come to Finland *grin* Saber Mon, 20th Nov '06, 4:32am Judge music by the feeling put into it, not the production. I don't give a f*** if an album sounds like crap if it has a good feeling to it.Oh, I know, certainly, but I get frustrated with poor production because I can never get into it to get into the feeling and meaning behind it. It is easier to love a band when you can hear what they mean. Harbourboy Mon, 20th Nov '06, 11:53pm Has anyone got or heard that new Beatles album "Love"? The one that George Martin has remixed for Cirque de Soleil? Any good? Kitrax Tue, 21st Nov '06, 12:18am The "new Beatles album"??? They are *still* making albums?!?! Any good?Oh my god, they "made" a new album  Same old songs thet appeared on MANY best ofs/compilations in all those past years. Oh I forgot that this time they were digitally remixed. BTW I totally agree with Saber. Harbourboy Tue, 21st Nov '06, 7:19pm Huh. Didn't expect such a Beatles backlash here. I understand that album might be number one in the UK. Stupid Brits, to buy music from such a *lousy* band. You guys all just hate anything that is popular. iPod, Microsoft, The Beatles, if lots of people like something, then it must be rubbish. If it's obscure and nobody has heard of it, then it must be fantastic. There must be a psychological explanation for this. Sydax Tue, 21st Nov '06, 7:34pm You hit the nail there Harbs. I've always wondered how's that something that is so popular that millons of people have it (iPod, Microsoft, etc) is lousy or crap... I read everywhere that nobody will want Vista for a couple of years, but now everybody seems to want it! Anyway. I just heard a song from that new Beatles album and the new version sounds, well, new. Basicaly, the lyrics stays the same (of course, right?) but with some new instrumentals. By the way, the music was made for a theatrical show about the Beatles, not for the Cirque du Solei; so the news shows said today. More info. (http://www.whatgoeson.com/) Harbourboy Tue, 21st Nov '06, 7:37pm Yeah, George Martin was asked to create a soundtrack for Cirque du Soleil by using any sounds he wanted from existing Beatles tracks. So it's like a huge remix of a whole bunch of Beatles songs. Because he was there when the stuff was recorded in the first place, he can probably be relied upon not to stuff it up and to create something in keeping with the originals. Sydax Tue, 21st Nov '06, 7:42pm  You're right Harbs... IT IS for the Cirque du Solei. Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4905630.stm I won't believe anything else of the morning news until I check the internet. Arabwel Tue, 21st Nov '06, 7:43pm I actually like the Beatles. :p as for Microsoft and iPod, the millions of people? donöt know better, are "trendy" or just too lazy to make the effort (like me & M$ products) In other news, my mother hads scrounged a Maiden shirt from somewhere a dnd so I am now happily snuggled into an Eddie. :D Apparently one of my uncles (!) had passed it on a few years back... Tassadar Tue, 21st Nov '06, 9:22pm Sarah Brown. Mesmero Tue, 21st Nov '06, 10:01pm I've always wondered how's that something that is so popular that millons of people have it (iPod, Microsoft, etc) is lousy or crap... People just hate to see themselves as 'the common crowd', basically because the common crowd is a bunch of stupid people who mindlessly follow every new trend that is started. By distancing yourself from the common crowd, you can think of yourself as better than them (often a disillusion), and in the end everybody likes to see themselves as better than everybody else. And considering you are better, opinions other people have are simply wrong and everything they have is crap. (You probably didn't expect to see this in a Sensorium topic eh?) Microsoft works for me, because I know how to work with Microsoft. I'm not too sure about the music quality of an iPod and I won't replace my MiniDisc player if it works just fine, and the Beatles have some brilliant songs (Hey Jude, While My Guitar Gently Weeps), but songs like Obladi are just pukable. But on a more musical note, I've been listening to Tom Waits a lot lately, his new album Orphans is brilliant. Disciple of The Watch Tue, 21st Nov '06, 11:30pm You guys all just hate anything that is popular. iPod, Microsoft Popular? I hate the ipod and M$ because they make s***. Stick with Windows, brain-washed clone. I'll stick with my Unix, thanks a lot. I prefer scratching my head some more and having a rock-solid OS which doesen's piss the hell out of me about stupid licenses and activation. Never mind that trying to get a laptop without Winblows was nearly impossible, thanks to the Nazism of uncle Bill. But that's another story. BTW I totally agree with Saber. So do I. Decados Tue, 21st Nov '06, 11:55pm I use Windows, mainly because although it may irritate me some of the time, it generally isn't bad enough to warrant the effort involved in getting a change. Mesmero did hit on a good point at the beginning of his post, though. The attitude isn't especially prevelant here, but on other forums it is possible to see many examples of the imfamous 'metal elitists', who tend to hate anything that gains popularity. Oh, just 'cause something is popular in the UK doesn't actually make it all that good. There is a massive amount of rubbish in circulation over here. The Beatles aren't really my kind of thing, to be honest. Arabwel Wed, 22nd Nov '06, 9:18am ... why is it that the talk in this thread ALWYS turns to this subject? in a more musical level, dear God but I love guitar solos. Love them to bits. I have an iPod, I haven't used anything else but Microsoft, so I don't know if its good or bad... I just don't like the beatles because I don't like their music. I agree Ara. Solos are sweet. Only if they aren't too long, though. The best one for me is in Unearth's Zombie Autopilot. Great stuff :thumb: Susipaisti Wed, 22nd Nov '06, 4:13pm The Beatles essentially have two kinds of songs: cute little pop songs, which are kind of quaint if you're into that sort of thing, and then these weirdass experimental trip songs which, I assume, have an "Ooooh! Sounds!" -sort of appeal to them if you're dropping acid. And I really don't get this annual archeology thing with the Beatles, with "new" records and all. Well, actually, I do get it. :money: :money: :money: So how 'bout a reunion? They still have a rhythm section! Decados Wed, 22nd Nov '06, 5:46pm Just listened to Excalibur by Grave Digger again... ..Ex-cally-boor! Gotta love the pronunciation. Sounds!" -sort of appeal to them if you're dropping acid. I often listened to Tartaros while on shroomz. Man, those were freaky buzzes... Thanks to my housemate, I'm stuck with a Godsmack song into my head...   Harbourboy Wed, 22nd Nov '06, 7:09pm They still have a rhythm section! No they don't, he was first to die. They only have drums and bass now, so maybe they can become a real "drum 'n' bass" outfit. Susipaisti Wed, 22nd Nov '06, 7:14pm "Rhythm section" is not the same as "rhythm guitar." It refers to the bass and the drums. Arabwel Wed, 22nd Nov '06, 7:30pm That reminds me.. it is interesting how in Finland, it is the bassists who get the rep as eing a bit ont he slow side... seems to be drummers elsewhere. :hmmm: Saber Thu, 23rd Nov '06, 3:59am Who else likes Neil Young and Tom Petty? I love Neil Young's Unplugged in New York and Live Rust, they're unbelievable. And Tom Petty (and the Heartbreakers) are sweet in general :) Mesmero Thu, 23rd Nov '06, 9:12am Finally a good music discussion :p Neil Young is cool. Acoustic or hard rockin'; it's all good. I don't really know Petty; he makes kinda heartland rock, right? In that case I prefer Bruce Springsteen. Decados Thu, 23rd Nov '06, 3:37pm My mother enjoys Tom Petty, so I listened to that stuff in past years, but it isn't really something I enjoy. Anyone got the new Meat Loaf album? Saber Thu, 23rd Nov '06, 4:54pm In my opinion, Petty is better than Bruce because of his voice. Bruce sounds like he tries way to hard to sing, and if you've ever seen him play, he strums his guitars harder than angry metalheads. Plus, I don't really like any of his music, just because I don't like the feel of it. Young>Petty>Bruce. Mesmero Fri, 24th Nov '06, 3:42pm It's actually the exact opposite for me. I think Bruce Springsteen may not be the technically best singer in the world, but he carries a lot of emotion in his voice. I don't like all of his songs, but songs like Thunder Road and The River are on my all time favorites list; even though he doesn't sing about the richest, most heroic or most successful characters, those songs make me feel like changing places with them in a heartbeat. Disciple of The Watch Fri, 1st Dec '06, 5:14am Hehe, things are rolling along nice with my new band - and during our last rehearsal, we heated things up and played some good old Testament, death metal version. Good stuff. Also played Slayer's Hell Awaits at half it's regular tempo, also in death. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: Arabwel Fri, 1st Dec '06, 4:03pm I am trying to get my hands on some Saxon right now... not relly that interested cause I don't like the singer's voice that much, but the guitar.... fascinating :D Saber Fri, 1st Dec '06, 11:42pm DotW, since when did you start a band up? And do you have any samples, or will you in the future? Harbourboy Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 4:38am I have just bought a new 4g iPod Nano from teh duty free shop on my way home from Australia. In Green. It's cool. /me puts on my anti-iPod flame suit on. Arabwel Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 4:49am You should have gotten the red one :p Disciple of The Watch Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 5:02am DotW, since when did you start a band up? And do you have any samples, or will you in the future? Some time ago - friends of friends were looking to get involved in a BM project, and my friend was quick to recommend me. Beats me why, I completly suck at BM vocals, and I still have some ways to go to become a good bass player. And no, nothing yet, we have yet to settle for a direction - BM sounds good, but neither of us can truly acheive "that" vocal... DM, I can handle it without a problem, but we want to do something atmospheric... got a few ideas bubbling in my mind, we'll see what happens. And Harbs, it's not even worth it. Enough said. Harbourboy Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 7:08am It doesn't come in red, Arabwel. Arabwel Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 7:26am Yes it does (http://www.joinred.com/products.asp?p=5) :D Undertaker Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 12:27pm Maybe DotW's band will become another BM legend :p Decados Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 9:08pm And will therefore only produce ten copies of their album, tell no-one of its release and procede to commit ritual suicide to ensure no-one will ever discover them. Such is the risk of BM success. Disciple of The Watch Sat, 2nd Dec '06, 11:48pm Maybe DotW's band will become another BM legend And will therefore only produce ten copies of their album, tell no-one of its release and procede to commit ritual suicide to ensure no-one will ever discover them. Such is the risk of BM success. :skeptic: :skeptic: :skeptic: :skeptic: :skeptic: :skeptic: :skeptic: :skeptic: Ehh, well, at this current stage, it's still but a local band, and I don't think we'll release anything - we do this because we like doing it. But if there's some expansion and we get something going on, then it'll be free backstage passes for Undertaker and Saber. Don't forget your mini-headbanger, 'taker. Decados Sun, 3rd Dec '06, 1:30pm quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And will therefore only produce ten copies of their album, tell no-one of its release and procede to commit ritual suicide to ensure no-one will ever discover them. Undertaker Sun, 3rd Dec '06, 5:05pm Ehh, well, at this current stage, it's still but a local band, and I don't think we'll release anything - we do this because we like doing it. But if there's some expansion and we get something going on, then it'll be free backstage passes for Undertaker and Saber. Don't forget your mini-headbanger, 'taker. Thatnks DotW. As for my little headbanger, he/she will sure come with me :D Saber Mon, 4th Dec '06, 3:04am Backstagedness? Excellent. Speaking of that, has anyone been backstage to meet their favorite artists? Arabwel Mon, 4th Dec '06, 5:06am Never been backstage, but I have been at the pub next door hanging out with the band both before and after the gig :p Undertaker Mon, 4th Dec '06, 5:08pm Been backstage few times but those were only local bands :p Arabwel Mon, 4th Dec '06, 8:08pm Heee, my birthday is gonna rock! or more like, the day before it is going to rock. Cause some unexpected SHINIES have led to yours tryly being able to go see a bunch of awesome people such as Marco Hietala sing heavy metal christmas carols. :D  In other random news.. just caught an article that confirmed something I made jokes about to my friend - namely, the fact that Mr. Lordi & co were at the W.A.S.P. gig in Manchester.. and, apaprently mingled into the crowd. *snickers* got to love it when they act like fanboys (and a girl) :p Kitrax Tue, 5th Dec '06, 10:38am Just got 3 STP, 2 Counting Crows, and 2 Soundgarden albums today at the library. So far I've listened to 2 STP albums, and so far so good. It's funny, I don't really like Audioslave, but I do like Soundgarden...and I will always love Rage. but when you mix the bands together, the outcome isn't all that great. :bad: :rolling: Arabwel Sat, 9th Dec '06, 9:17am Well, i am not going to see the awesomeness that is christmas carols in heavy metal style. Instead, i will be staying at home.. and treating myself to a bunch of CDs. Now I jsut have to decide which ones i will get :D Undertaker Wed, 13th Dec '06, 6:21pm It's been 5 years now since the death of Chuck Schuldiner. Susipaisti Wed, 13th Dec '06, 10:56pm And two years since Dime's death on the 8th. Harbourboy Wed, 13th Dec '06, 10:58pm Who were Chuck Schuldiner and Dime? Susipaisti Wed, 13th Dec '06, 11:05pm Chuck Schuldiner was the vocalist/guitarist of Death. He died of cancer. Dimebag Darrell was the guitarist of Pantera. He was shot on stage. Saber Wed, 13th Dec '06, 11:08pm And Dimebag Darrell was perhaps one of the most talented guitarists, at least that is what is said in the metal world. Harbourboy Wed, 13th Dec '06, 11:54pm I assume Dimebag is not his real name? Susipaisti Thu, 14th Dec '06, 12:07am His full real name was Darrell Lance Abbott. And indeed, he was a kickass guitar player. On a lighter note: I can cook some ****ing bad-ass spaghetti and some pretty killer-ass ****ing hot sauce-Dimebag Darrell Saber Thu, 14th Dec '06, 12:09am His name is Darrell Lance "Dimebag" Abbott, but everyone knows him as Dimebag Darrell (I wonder where he got that one? ;) ) Disciple of The Watch Thu, 14th Dec '06, 2:56am It's been 5 years now since the death of Chuck Schuldiner. And two years since Dime's death on the 8th. Yeah... and this friday, it will have been two months since the death of Jared Anderson, and on the 27th, four month since Jesse Pintado's death. Too many metal souls have died these last years. Harbourboy Thu, 14th Dec '06, 6:20am Busy busy busy loading up music into iTunes on the new PC. I'm now up to 1,561 songs, but still plenty to go. There are all sorts of classics here I forgot I had. Arabwel Thu, 14th Dec '06, 7:14am I am going to end up getting a portable HD to drag all my shiuny music to Ireland... that, and three cases of CDs. I am not leaving my lovelies behind. And I am vaguely tempted to try out Saxon's post-1995 stuff, except, it does not relaly have any particular appeal to me atm... mostly becauise it lacks Graham Oliver  Cúchulainn Thu, 14th Dec '06, 9:10am Let me know which part of Ireland you are visiting and I can recommend all the cool things to visit. If you are in the North, you must visit Katy Daly's bar in Belfast. Its a lovely traditional place with an extremely large choice of beers from around the world and its the bar of choice for people into metal/goth/rock music. Arabwel Thu, 14th Dec '06, 11:18am I shall. I will definitley have to come up to vist north after I get settled in in Dublin :D that bar sounds like an awesome place to go to... :D LListening to Denim and Leather makes me vaguely amused - where was I in 1979? Um, a twinkle in my parents' eyes, pretty much. :D Cúchulainn Thu, 14th Dec '06, 11:28am When you go to Dublin, make sure you go to St Michans church, which is situated near Jameson distillery. The church itself is standard, but you can visit the crypt and shake the hand of a preserved crusader for luck. There is also a preserved nun and a ton of other cool stuff. Much better than the Christ Church crypt. Back to music - got the new Wolf album and I am not sure if I like it or not. I haven't given it a proper listen yet, as 'Stay Hungry' has taken up residence in my CD player. Arabwel Thu, 14th Dec '06, 11:56am Oooh, thankjs for the tip! that sounds immensely cool :D Amd to stay a bit on topic... Crusader is one of my favorite Saxon songs, it would seem :D Saber Thu, 14th Dec '06, 1:36pm I'm now up to 1,561 songsI had filled my 30gb iPod, so I went back and started deleting stuff... right now, I think I have 4000 songs with only 4gbs left (alot were recorded at 192kbs or 320kbs, much higher than apple's crappy 128kbs). Harbourboy Thu, 14th Dec '06, 5:42pm What's wrong with 128kbps? Sounds OK to me. Arabwel Thu, 14th Dec '06, 10:42pm I am not even going to try to figure out howmany songs I have coming to Ireland with me.. suffice to say, i am V. glad I am getting a shiny portable HD to haul them around with :p Harbourboy Thu, 14th Dec '06, 10:42pm Can you listen to the songs from your HD? Arabwel Thu, 14th Dec '06, 10:52pm Sure can, for I have a hiny laptop - I would not be bothering with the portable HD if not for the fact that the laptop only has 6GB of space :p Disciple of The Watch Fri, 15th Dec '06, 7:12am I'm just back from a jam with the band. We've composed a freaking tune, pretty darn heavy, though it's definitively NOT black metal. It sounds more like thrash metal mixed with some death metal. I'll try to persuade the other guys that we should record it (even if simply to keep as a momento), but I'm not exactly sure it'll happen (if it ever). Time will tell. I'm still pretty much of a bad bass player, though... but I'm working on it. Cúchulainn Fri, 15th Dec '06, 9:04am There is a metal/fetish night in Belfast next week. Sounds fun, but what if I bump into someone from work? Arabwel Fri, 15th Dec '06, 12:15pm They are going to be just as embarrassed as you are, Cú! :D In other news, ia m not going to touch Saxon with a 10 foot pole for a bit.. so i believe it is Maiden for me for a bit. Possibly witha good dose of Tarot and Gamma ray to accompany it. Undertaker Fri, 15th Dec '06, 5:40pm @DotW: Me wants to hear your songs Saber Fri, 15th Dec '06, 11:45pm /me likes Hypocrisy Especially Virus. Damn good CD. Disciple of The Watch Sat, 16th Dec '06, 4:30am /me likes Hypocrisy Especially Virus. Damn good CD.Yeah, Hypocrisy pwns. @DotW: Me wants to hear your songsI'll try to... if the guys agree, that is. |
