View Full Version : For dark film buffs Barmy Army Sat, 23rd Sep '06, 5:59pm 50 films hidden in the image (http://us.mms.com/us/dark/) Well hard Bahir the Red Sat, 23rd Sep '06, 9:33pm I managed 3 right answers, then I gave up. Fabius Maximus Sat, 23rd Sep '06, 11:33pm Not bad. I think most of the riddles are quite obvious. I'm just not good with horror movies. Barmy Army Sun, 24th Sep '06, 12:17am I'm on 31 at mo. There are some I just don't have a clue with. Fabius Maximus Sun, 24th Sep '06, 1:49am I got 26 now. Some are just to hard for me. I feel that I should know the guy with the lamp and Death. But no title I remember fits. Barmy Army Sun, 24th Sep '06, 12:54pm I figured the guy with the lamp as The Shining. I can't think what the death guy is though... Vukodlak Mon, 25th Sep '06, 12:25am Right, got all of em... the bloody bats had me confused though... it took me 15 minutes to realise they were bloody BIRDS! Da Rock Mon, 25th Sep '06, 2:24am Managed to get 40. As Barmy Army says, some I don't have a clue about - I think the two men on the 39 steps is probably the most difficult (for me). Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 2:45am I got to 40 before I realized I'd just wasted nearly 30 minutes. ;) I'll try again tomorrow. The ones that are killing me are the green M&M girl, the lady dangling her kid, and the pencil guy in the corner. If anyone knows these, please drop me a hint - don't tell me outright. I feel proud to have gotten 40 on my own. Harbourboy Mon, 25th Sep '06, 3:16am I have ground to a halt at 23. No idea about the M&M juggling the coins, the face in the tower, the guy with the basket on his head, or any of the ones that DR mentioned. Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 6:24am @ HB - two quick hints... What kinds of coins are they, what do they add up to? Say it out loud. What is the basket made of? (newer movie) Vukodlak Mon, 25th Sep '06, 9:14am The ones that are killing me are the green M&M girl, the lady dangling her kid, and the pencil guy in the corner M&M girl: what is she wearing? Lady with kids: I thought this was 'Mommie dearest'. As it turns out I was wrong but not by much... Pencil guy: you almost have it :D Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 9:31am I tried "Devil in a Blue Dress" and it didn't work. Another hint? Oh yeah - and the tall house with the light on on the left hand side...killing me too. Also - have no idea about death in the circle fence thing. "Circle of Death" was a no-go. Also - the little dude with a telescope on the top floor of that shack. The dark passageway in the bottom right is also making my brain itch, because I'm sure it's incredibly simple. As a side-note - Barmy, this is one of the coolest things I've seen online in a long time. Kudos. DarkStrider Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:41am DR Green M&M try a cloth type, death guy think Stephen King and guy with telescope think Hitchcock. I've got 18 so far, and yes Barmy well done this is fun. EDIT: 40 and struggling. [ September 25, 2006, 13:31: Message edited by: DarkStrider ] Harbourboy Mon, 25th Sep '06, 11:05am Still stuck on 23. Rallymama Mon, 25th Sep '06, 3:15pm I got to 17 off the top of my head. Funny thing is, I hate hooro movies and haven't seen most of the films in this puzzle - I know them from seeing trailers or ads! @DR - re the green M&M girl, think David Lynch Up to 20... @Da Rock: The answer is in your question! ;) What's the deal with the flock of earmuff-wearing sheep? [ September 25, 2006, 15:40: Message edited by: Rallymama ] Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 3:56pm @ Rally - What's another word for sheep, and what do earmuffs do? Thanks for your hint about the green M&M girl, I got it - but since I've never heard of that film, I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise. I feel dirty. :( I'm at 43 now. ALSO - I need a hint about the three kids dancing in a circle. Anybody? [ September 25, 2006, 16:18: Message edited by: Death Rabbit ] DarkStrider Mon, 25th Sep '06, 4:05pm Hints please 1. The moths/butterflies on the right hand side? 2. The people with the O's? 3. The three guys with the plan? 4. Mother & Kids? 5. Water barrel? 6. Kids Dancing? 7. The thing in water? 8. Coins (couldn't get it from your hint DR)? 9. The guys standing back to back on the steps? 10. The Tunnel? Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 4:13pm 1. Do they have an 'effect?' 2. They're all men. 3. They are boys, and it's a map. 4. -- 5. What shade is the water? (recent movie) 6. -- 7. Another word for "monster," and what is he in? (older movie) 8. I don't know how it is in most of Europe, but in the US we refer to our loose change as "cents." 4, 6, 9 and 10 I still need good hints on. Vuk seems to be the only one to do really well here. And I STILL have no idea about the guy with a telescope. "Vertigo" is the closest I've come, and that's not it. I guess that, the mountain peak at the top and the tall house on the far left mean I have 7 left, not 5. EDIT so now I'm down to 4. I figured out the mountain peak (or, should I say "peaks" ;) ) and for some reason the cabin I was talking about is no longer clickable, so my bad. So once I get the hints on 4, 6, 9, and 10 I should be a happy monkey. [ September 25, 2006, 16:32: Message edited by: Death Rabbit ] DarkStrider Mon, 25th Sep '06, 4:32pm Telescope man is a Hitchcock movie with James Stewart, and if that's not enough where is what he's looking out of in relation to the house. Thanks for the help I miscounted on the 'pennies' I've obviously not seen the films with the boys and map, or the water one; but I have got no 10. A quote from the film "How do you get eyes like that"... Monday brain yes I have seen that one, the Connelly I managed to guess. I'm left with dancing kids, the Mum and the two guys. [ September 25, 2006, 16:59: Message edited by: DarkStrider ] Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 4:38pm Ok I got telescope guy now. That one was dumb. I've obviously not seen the films with the boys and map, or the water one;If you need a map, what are you? Trust me, you know this one. The water one stars Jennifer Connely. I haven't seen it either. EDIT - HA HA!! Just got #9. [ September 25, 2006, 16:49: Message edited by: Death Rabbit ] Colthrun Mon, 25th Sep '06, 6:40pm 6- DS, the kids may not be dancing, but playing... I got 40 with the help of one of my co-workers. I'm baffled by the lady with the two babies and the one with the barrel of water... Barmy Army Mon, 25th Sep '06, 7:04pm I'm on 37 at mo. A few that I BET are really easy, but I just can't nail.... the Baby on its back clutching at what appear to be leaves.... the 3 kids dancing... the basket guy... death in the graveyard... the stairs... and the two guys back to back on the stairs... and the 2 sweetcorn guys... argh! I don't think I've actually found 50 clues yet either :p Rallymama Mon, 25th Sep '06, 7:13pm Baby on its back clutching at what appear to be leaves.... They're a particular kind of leaf, Barmy - a culinary herb, in fact. I'm up to 34. What's up with the planets? I've tried "Clash of the Titans" and "When Worlds Collide," both unsuccessfully... Both fish are leaving me blank, and the candle. I'm still blank (pun not intended) on the men with the O's. Other than that I think I'm most stuck on the same ones that have been mentioned before. Mesmero Mon, 25th Sep '06, 7:16pm I'm up to 41. The bottom right corner is hard. I've no clue about the guy with the baskets, the chained guy, the pencil guy, the black hole and the golden thing with shovels. Let's see what else; the two guys on the stair, the howling wolves, and Mars and Jupiter. I don't know the woman with the two 'kids' either, but if you ask me, one looks more like a monkey. Barmy, that aren't two corn guys, since they got all kinds of baby corn with them. And look at Colthrun's hint (thanks, didn't have that one either) for the three dancing kids. Rally, one fish is a ... and the other isn't a fish, it's more like a different sort of creature. And do you mean the candle in the shape of a house? (That's also already a hint). The 'O'-men require a bit of creative thinking :) Barmy Army Mon, 25th Sep '06, 7:23pm Thanks for the tips. You'll kick yourselves with the WORLDS clue :p the chained guy, the pencil guy, the black hole and the golden thing with shovels. Let's see what else; the two guys on the stair, the howling wolves, and Mars and Jupiter. If he's strapped up in a straight jacket, what is he? ;) What's usually on the end of a pencil? You've just answered the wolfs one yourself ;) Mesmero Mon, 25th Sep '06, 7:35pm Thanks Barmy, I'm up to 43. I got the planets and the pencil guy (never even heard of that last movie; I admit it, I used IMDB). If he's strapped up in a straight jacket, what is he? [Wink]Crazy, insane in the brain, completely bonkers... I guess I have to give that some more thought. Same goes for the wolves. Rallymama Mon, 25th Sep '06, 7:43pm The 'O'-men require a bit of creative thinking  Payback - those aren't shovels on the golden thing, and their position is significant. Get away from shovels, and what does the whole thing look like? [ September 25, 2006, 20:05: Message edited by: Rallymama ] Harbourboy Mon, 25th Sep '06, 9:57pm I'm stuck on 25. And DR, that basket one is not a 'new' movie - it's a crappy remake of a classic older movie. I can't get the little fish in the pond. Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:02pm I didn't know it was a remake. Hmm. I actually originally thought that one was Basket Case. As for the one you can't get: It's not a fish, and think of other names for a murky pond. Harbourboy Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:10pm The original is a complete classic. Hmm, I can only come up with "An Eel in a Bog"? Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:20pm  You crack me up. Let's make like charades... Sounds like: The Preacher Runs the Flack and Goon ;) ps - 48!!! I figured out the damn kids! :D Mesmero Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:22pm Thanks Rally. After your hint, I saw it immediately. 44! DR, which ones are you missing? Harbourboy Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:50pm The Preacher Runs the Flack and Goon What the? Ohhhhh. 29. I can't get the knife. Barmy Army Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:52pm What's another name for a knife? And no, it's not Dagger! Anyone got the Death guy yet? Or the collection of dark houses next to the birds? Vukodlak Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:55pm What's a collection of houses called? :p I admit the mommy with the kids I would not have got had I not done the 6 coins one just before. They're the same type of hint... Barmy Army Mon, 25th Sep '06, 10:58pm Oh, God. I tried 'Village of the damned' and all kinds of combinations without realising I'd put the right answer in each time... I'm on 49 now, just missing Death :p Death Rabbit Mon, 25th Sep '06, 11:08pm @ Mes I'm missing the dark cavern in the bottom right, and the damn woman with a baby dangling her other kid. They're both driving me batsh*t. @ Vuk - that didn't help at all. :skeptic: @ Barmy - this one is tough, and one of the less obvious of the bunch. As was hinted to me before, think Stephen King... Barmy Army Mon, 25th Sep '06, 11:15pm Got it. Completed! I must add, with the help of a mate here. He gave me the answers for the stairs, the 2 guys back to back (I should have got that one!) and the 'spy' in the window (bloody lame answer if you ask me). The hardest one I found was the baby one, simply because I'd never heard of the movie before, but I nailed it after going through a few herbs  . Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 12:19am 31. I have started a new tactic. I am thinking of famous 'dark movies' and then trying to find the clues that fit. I have found two more that way. Still can't get any of the ones involving stairs. Mesmero Tue, 26th Sep '06, 12:21am Alright, I used Google to find the last five (or else curiosity would've kept me up all night). I never heard of the dark cave and the basket man ones. I should have gotten the straight jacket one. I've heard of the back to back guys, but never would have gotten the clue, and the mommy with the kiddos was just lame. I'm still surprised I got as many as I did, considering I probably saw about ten movies from that list (yeah, I know, I don't know my classics, but I'm not a big horror fan). Harbs, count the steps (the answer was already given on the previous page). And DR, you will see Vukodlak's hint was actually quite useful, when you know the answer. Prepare to hit yourself on the head. Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:02am Ok, now I have them all. I shamefully admit to looking online for the answers to the last two. I'm a dirty, dirty whore. But hey - at least I can think about something else now. :D Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:04am 32. Still can't get the other two stair related ones. Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:07am Wonder if one of us should post a comprehensive hint list... Any requests? Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:14am I can't get the tunnel one either. Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:21am That one was tough for me, too - and I needed help. So here's a hint. The tunnel is extremely dark. So dark in fact, one might say that it's... Da Rock Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:23am Well I thought the 2 men would be the hardest... Got 49 - just that 'spy' in the window (as BarmyArmy says), bet it is too obvious for me. @Death Rabbit: The dangling baby - ignore both kids and concentrate on who is holding them; The dark cavern - think of a baseball mound and the colour of "darkness"... Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:28am You must be late posting this, Rock...I got 'em already. Thanks though. ;) Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:46am Still no idea on: - black tunnel - kids dancing - woman on stairs - men on stairs - woman holding kids - planets crashing - where the hell another 12 clues even are. Da Rock Tue, 26th Sep '06, 1:59am @Harbourboy: black tunnel - see my last (late) post kids dancing - "chucky 1" woman on stairs - see previous clues (David Lynch, cloth type) men on stairs - they don't like each other, so they have a ... woman holding kids - see last (late) post... and Egypt planets crashing - "No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter. It is possible that the infusoria under the microscope do the same. No one gave a thought to the older worlds of space as sources of human danger, or thought of them only to dismiss the idea of life upon them as impossible or improbable. It is curious to recall some of the mental habits of those departed days. At most terrestrial men fancied there might be other men upon Mars, perhaps inferior to themselves and ready to welcome a missionary enterprise. Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us." Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 2:18am 37. Still can't get: - the spears sticking out of the ball of wool - the dark tunnel - the guy with the lamp - man with pumpkin on head - where another 9 clues are. Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 3:40am the spears sticking out of the ball of woolWow...you may NEVER finish this thing. :shake: C'mon man, think...what color is it...those aren't spears... Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 3:45am Arrows from the orange ball? Still on 37. And I haven't yet hit the handicap of not having heard of the movies (that other people have). I've heard of all them so far, but I'm still stuck. Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 4:03am Look at the position of the "arrows" (hint - they aren't arrows). What kind of circular object has "arrows" pointed in a similar manner? And what other spherical objects are also orange? This was the first one I got on the page. I thought it was by far the most obvious. Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 4:06am Ohhhhh. 41. Still stuck on: - shadow in tower - tunnel - man with lamp - leprechaun in tree - house with big door - man with pumpkin on head - the mountain - the grim reaper - the tied up fella. [ September 26, 2006, 04:28: Message edited by: Harbourboy ] Saber Tue, 26th Sep '06, 4:43am This is hard, mainly for my lack of knowledge of old horror movies. HB: leprechaun in treeThere is only one movie about a leprechaun, and you just told me. Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 4:59am Well that was no help. So I'm still stuck on 41. Saber Tue, 26th Sep '06, 5:27am The answer is in the question you asked. Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 5:45am How dumb. 8 to go. Mesmero Tue, 26th Sep '06, 9:02am - shadow in tower - That's not a shadow, but an extra terrestial (And no, E.T. is not a horror movie). - man with lamp - Barmy spoiled this one on page 1, but ignore the man, the lamp gives light. - man with pumpkin on head - Try this one with three words less, and you got it. - the mountain - They are two very identical mounting tops (think David Lynch). - the tied up fella - Well, he looks insane. He must be a ... (think Hitchcock). Rallymama Tue, 26th Sep '06, 10:23am @DR: I've given up on the last few I have to go. Consider this a request for that comprehensive list! :D  DarkStrider Tue, 26th Sep '06, 10:43am I have 1 left to get, the 2 guys who don't like each other, but my brain is fixated on hate and/or indifference, and I can't think of any films like that. Anybody with another oblique clue please. I have to say that when I got the woman and kids, I actually groaned at how bad that was. Colthrun Tue, 26th Sep '06, 10:54am Right, I am stuck with: - The old lady and the barrel of water. - The grim reaper. - The bug coming out the test tube. - The green M&M's wearing the dress. - The staircase. :help: Edit: Got the staircase. DS: probably one did something to the other, or they fought for something they both wanted, so there's resentment, they have a... Edit2: Got the woman and the water, yay! [ September 26, 2006, 11:09: Message edited by: Colthrun ] Mesmero Tue, 26th Sep '06, 11:36am - The bug coming out the test tube. - The green M&M's wearing the dress. The bug was one of the easiest imo. Other word for bug is... The liquid substance also has a part in it. Ignore the fact it is a dress. Color + fabric type = one (probably crappy) David Lynch movie. DarkStrider Tue, 26th Sep '06, 11:44am @Colthrun 'the grim reaper' is a Stephen King book, film and now TV series, what type of bug is it? My brain is working hard today which probably explains why this last one is slipping away Edit: I got it with a guess but I don't think I've heard of that one, with your clue Colthrun I was stuck with "The Duellists" :xx: Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 6:47pm Ok then - as per request, a comprehensive hint list! Here we go (in no particular order): Wolves: what are they doing? (verb becomes proper noun) Giant fly: should be obvious Big scary fish: James Bond villains may keep this as a pet Blue M&M Guy: what's around his waiste? Green M&M Chick: Ignore the dress...color+fabric=movie by David Lynch Grim Reaper in a Field: Stephen King movie, not "twilight" Monster, bottom left: It's not a fish, but another word for 'monster'; the body of water it resides in is significant (old movie) Leprechaun: obvious Saw in the tree: obvious Glowing eyes in the back: what do the hills have? Saturn & Jupiter: think "Battle of the Planets" TGIF 10/13: what day is it? Staircase: how many steps? (Hitchcock) Dude with a telescope: the telescope is meaningless; look at where he is in the house Butterflies: is there an 'effect?' Dark cave: if it's completely dark, one might say it's _____ _____ Bug in a jar w/ liquid: what kind of bug is it, and what do you drink at breakfast? (quick IQ test: if you say out lound "Cockroach Coffee?" punch yourself Figure in bell tower: he's not from this country, he's an illegal ________ Number on the tower: obvious Bird, far upper right: Not a raven Man in a bed with devils around him: check for a street sign nearby Corn cobs: do you suppose they're decent parents? Dark houses: Chief, Biker, Construction Worker, Cop and Sailer are their people House-shaped candle: what's a candle made of? Man in black w/ lamp: the lamp is bright, ignore the man People with the O's: they're all men Kids dancing in a circle: ask Chucky 3 kids w/ map: what are you if you need a map? None are girls Two men on staircase: they can't seem to let go of their differences Woman near butterflies: think Edvard Munch (or, what is she doing?) Pencil Man: head's up (David Lynch flick) Signs near the house: obvious (I just said it) Woman with kids: to the kids, who is she? (think British accent) Candycane man: sans-cane Two highest mountains: identical mountaintops Floating glasses & gloves: can you see him? Woman with H20 barrel: the water is not light Tattered Texas flag: what horrible thing happened there involving a powerful tool? (style points for saying "the election of George W. Bush," but alas, no) Jackolanterns: what holiday are they for? Man in straight jacket: not "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," but the right idea Red M&M Guy w/ pennies: ignore the juggling, just add and say aloud Sheep w/ earmuffs: what's another word for sheep, and what do the earmuff's create? Big-ass knife: another word for knife? Bats flying upward: I know they look like bats, but they aren't (ask Tippi Hedren) Man with a pumpkin for a head: I kind of just said it Dude with a basket on his head: what's the basket made of? Jawbone near the stairs: if there were two of them, they'd be... Monkeys in the field: time to count Orange sphere w/ arrows sticking out: think of the most obvious spherical orange object; the arrows are hands Huge baby w/ weeds on it: think herbs w/ a woman's name [ September 26, 2006, 18:57: Message edited by: Death Rabbit ] Harbourboy Tue, 26th Sep '06, 9:47pm 49. Still can't get that Death one. It's not Carrie or Christine or Cujo or Misery. Death Rabbit Tue, 26th Sep '06, 10:33pm You kiddin' HB? I wouldn't blame you for thinking "Graveyard Shift," but you actually thought of Carrie, Christine, Cujo, and Misery before a Stephen King book/film with the word "Dead" in the title? Aren't fenced-off areas also known as "Zones" in New Zealand? Dragonfly Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 7:10am Wow, that was certainly addicting. Thank you for posting this game. It was a lot of fun. Harbourboy Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 8:48pm Oh..... All done now. Atmer Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 9:03pm People should put a warn on this topic. One can get highly obsessed with such thing. Anyway, finally I got it all. It was quite difficult, as I didn’t know many of the movies and some that I knew I didn’t know their original titles. I got stuck for a long time with the mom and the two kids, someone said that it was the same kind of hint used with the coins so I kept thinking that it had to be Carie 2. :) Harbourboy Tue, 3rd Oct '06, 9:05pm so I kept thinking that it had to be Carie 2. Classic. Your thought, that is, not The Rage: Carrie 2, which was laughably bad. |
