Here's the rules as originally set by Takara:

OK, Whilst in bed for lots I had this great idea for a new game. You post a song and someone needs to guess the movie. For example if I posted Berlin - Take my breath away the answer would be Top Gun. The only ones you can post are: written for a film, star the band in a brief cameo, or the song will always be linked to the film, like Kenny Loggins - Dangerzone. I and many people will automatically say to themselves...... "yeeeehah, Jesters dead...." from Top Gun. You cant post say Coldplay - Clocks just because it was used in Confidence.
And it's apparently T2Bruno's turn.

Last Dance -- Donna Summer

T2Bruno
Wed, 27th Jun '07, 3:42pm
Wow, no takers? This even won an Oscar for Best Original Song in the late 70's.

Takara
Wed, 27th Jun '07, 4:27pm
Shaft?

T2Bruno
Wed, 27th Jun '07, 11:44pm
No, not shaft. This is a movie about an evening at a Los Angeles night club -- complete with a performance by the Commodores.

Edit: I win! I don't think anyone is going to get the Donna Summer song.

I'll try another:

How do I Live by Trisha Yearwood.

Trivia: The song was originally recorded by Leann Rimes, but the producers of the movie didn't like her pop/little girl sound and Leann refused to re-record it -- so they brought in Trisha Yearwood for a more mature version to be used with the movie. Leann released her version after hearing the Yearwood version on the radio.

Your turn Takara.

Takara
Sun, 1st Jul '07, 9:51am
Here's a song I think was witten for this movie. It's my favourite guitar instrumental by FAR.

Edward & Alex Van Halen - Respect the Wind

Takara
Tue, 3rd Jul '07, 10:56pm
Ok, this song plays during the end credits. A mini hint is in the song title. Maybe this film has something to do with wind...

Takara
Thu, 5th Jul '07, 12:12am
You'll Know this song but I bet you just can't place its name. Mega hint time, the wind in particular is tornados

nior
Thu, 5th Jul '07, 3:31am
Twisters?

Takara
Thu, 5th Jul '07, 8:54am
Yup. It is Twister. I bought the soundtrack for £2 just because it had this song on it.

That was quick and that was right.

Enagonios
Sat, 7th Jul '07, 3:51am
huh, who'dve thunk haha, I never win this game :D

okay.. Haddaway - What is love

Takara
Sun, 8th Jul '07, 4:00pm
I think I know the song. Can hum it. Hint to the film? I'm sure i've seen this film but can't think of it straight out. :(

Enagonios
Mon, 9th Jul '07, 3:40am
after seeing this film, its impossible to hear the song and NOT see a couple of actors bopping their heads to one side :D

Takara
Mon, 9th Jul '07, 2:53pm
Heh, might be impossible for you but obviously not for me.

Enagonios
Mon, 9th Jul '07, 6:02pm
hehe okay, seeing as how you're the only one that even has a feeling about it, i'll give you another hint:

the 2 main characters of the movie originated from an SNL (Saturday Night Live) skit. The 2 actors playing them were also regular cast members at one time or another on SNL.

and the head-bopping comment was a hint too. everytime the 2 would start to dance, the first move would be to bop their head to one side over and over. to the left side iirc haha but I'm not sure.

Takara

Wayne's World?

Enagonios
Tue, 10th Jul '07, 12:08pm
hmm, didn't think this one would be a stumper although I did see it on cinemax...

the 2 characters in question are brothers (one short, one tall) and they both try hitting on girls with the dumbest lines. The taller brother is the dumber one.

Susipaisti
Wed, 11th Jul '07, 3:21pm
Damn, I've seen this one, or at least a bit of it, on TV a few years back. Too bad it was so bad I didn't bother to find out what it was called.

I can see the bopping heads and hear the song in my head now and it's haunting me. :bang:

;)

Enagonios
Sat, 21st Jul '07, 11:02am
c'mon, nobody knows this one??

fine, hintage:

This was an in-continuity movie version of a popular series. (Read: one those ______:The Movie types of titles :p )

IIRC they played the song a couple of times throughout the movie, but they played practically (if not the whole song) in the final battle, after the protagonist stopped getting his ass handed to him and started to win the fight.

Takara
Sat, 21st Jul '07, 11:18am
Power Rangers - the movie? No clue but i've never seen ANY tv show made into a movie.

Enagonios
Sat, 21st Jul '07, 11:41am
nope, think late 80s-early 90s Tak ;)

I'm not sure how popular this was over there in Europe, but it was extremely popular in the U.S and, as a result, here in the Philippines as well.

It also launched a couple of spin-offs and even a 3D spinoff iirc. It's still around now I believe, but its been so revamped from the original that I can't bear to watch any of the new stuff. Never bothered with the spinoffs either.

Enagonios
Thu, 26th Jul '07, 4:59pm
wow, can't believe no takers

okay, last hints, if still nobody gets it from these i'll declare a stumper and post another.

The series in question was a cartoon and although this song was played in the "cartoon movie" version, a live action movie was released afterwards. The live action movie has it's own story and is not in-continuity.

Chas
Thu, 26th Jul '07, 6:54pm
Based on your hints, not the song, I guess:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Carcaroth

Transformers... The Movie?

I believe there's now a 3D cartoon, but I don't remember a live-action movie.

Enagonios
Tue, 31st Jul '07, 10:41am
you've got it Carcaroth.

And the live-action movie I was referring to was the one that came out just last month :D I just phrased it that way so that it wouldn't be too obvious.

Carcaroth
Thu, 2nd Aug '07, 2:02pm
I remember seeing the cartoon film at the cinema for one of my friends birthdays. Or was that Battle of the Gobots...

"Keep Holding On"
Avril Lavigne

Bad bad movie, and not a particularly suitable song.

Carcaroth

woo-hoo, give it to the giant eye-ball.

Takara
Mon, 13th Aug '07, 3:41pm
IJA time. Big Pig - I can't break away. On hearing this you can't fail to know the movie!

Takara
Tue, 14th Aug '07, 6:49pm
Well, the band name might not help. A friend from Australia was playing them once, doesn't mean they're from Australia. It plays in the opening credits to this film. You should all know the film, heh I can post almost every song off the soundtrack, you might not know the group, but you'll know the song if you heard it.

Harbourboy
Tue, 14th Aug '07, 11:01pm
Aaargh. Big Pig are terrible. I would have mentally blocked any film that had a Big Pig song in it. That Breakaway song is unbearable.

Takara
Tue, 14th Aug '07, 11:44pm

Yup, it was when the phone booth first came in as a gold cone during the opening credits.

Aldazar

Okay, well due to a brainfreeze, here's a pretty easy one...

"Stuck In The Middle With You" by Stealer's Wheel

Sir Belisarius
Mon, 20th Aug '07, 12:09pm
What about "Back in Time" by Huey Lewis and the News for Back to the Future? Huey Lewis played Marty's music teacher in 1985 (he was a judge for the battle of the bands), and I think The News played back-up.

Well, it's been over a week sicne he logged in, so i'll follow the movie scene game ands IJ.

Staying Alive by the Bee Gees.
I know this was written and made for Saturday Night Fever, but this was used in a very memorable scene in a very funny film.

Sorry, was on Holiday.

It was Fire Walk with Me - i.e. Twin Peaks.

Well, it was in Platoon... but it's also been in several others. You should give a hint for a song that has been in several movies.

The only one I can think of is The Great Mouse Detective, but that doesn't seem to be right to me.

Chas
Sat, 8th Sep '07, 3:57am
Wow, I can't believe this one is still open. Just the song should have done it for the 'experts' here. Me, I am very bad with song/artist names so I usually do not have a chance with this game. But the second hint nails it. Took me a whole day to remember the title so I thought sure it would be gone. Hope this is right:

An American Tail

Harbourboy
Sat, 8th Sep '07, 2:41pm
Chas - you're right. How did that stay unanswered for so long? Even I could have got that (if I'd noticed it earlier)

T2Bruno

Yes, Chas is correct.

I thought it would be an easy one for everyone.

Chas
Sun, 9th Sep '07, 3:16am
Like I said in my answer above, I am not good at this game so this should be a freebie to the first reader:

The first movie associated with Shirley Bassey

(Can't give the song title for obvious reasons and I did not realize that she did 3 JB until I just looked her up to verify the spelling)

Harbourboy

I went on to itunes to hear the song and see if it conjured up any memories, and it said the film name. Saw it once a while ago, didn't really like it so wouldn't have got it. But since I saw the film name it disqualifies me from guessing/posting the film.

oh, crap sorry I totally forgot about this one

Aldazar is correct.

Aldazar
Mon, 15th Oct '07, 6:18am
About time!

Anyway, here's another (probably) easy one, from a really bad movie I saw on the weekend - I was bored:

"Can't Take My Eyes Off You" performed by one of the main actors
I know this song has been in a few movies but this time around there's about half a dozen different takes on it in the one performance

Enagonios
Tue, 16th Oct '07, 5:30am
10 things i hate about you?

Aldazar
Thu, 18th Oct '07, 6:46am
Nope, it's a sequel

T2Bruno
Thu, 18th Oct '07, 3:42pm
When a song has been in multiple movies, the hint should either ensure there is only one answer or an answer from ANY of the movies is correct.

Aldazar, you should have supplied some information in your original hint to differentiate it. Enagonios provided a correct answer and he should go.

Your hint could also have been correctly answered with The Fabulous Baker Boys or Scooby-Doo (plus whatever movie you have in mind with the second hint).

Aldazar
Tue, 23rd Oct '07, 6:34am
I understand all that T2Bruno, that's why I added in my first posting that there are about half a dozen different versions of the song performed in the one sequence, I thought that would make sure to differentiate this particular film from all the rest where it's one straight performance by the particular artist in the one style in any other movie that this song appears in, hence:
I know this song has been in a few movies but this time around there's about half a dozen different takes on it in the one performance Anyway, I don't mind either way, if Enagonios wants to go by all means go, otherwise a glaring hint: Jamie Kennedy, Alan Cumming

Enagonios
Tue, 23rd Oct '07, 7:51am
its okay, I'll pass on it, don't have a song prepared myself haha.

Takara
Wed, 24th Oct '07, 1:04pm
Give a different hint as that conjures absolutely nothing?

Aldazar
Thu, 25th Oct '07, 12:18pm
Well, since I probably won't be back for a few days:

This is the sequel to a Jim Carrey movie which was infinitely better than this sequel

Takara
Thu, 25th Oct '07, 4:49pm
The only Jim Carrey sequal I can think of, and seen, is Ace Ventura 2: When nature calls, but it didn't have Jamie Kennedy and Alan Cumming, so i'm stumped.

Edit: Just looked on imdb. They made a sequal to this film, and you watched it?? FREAK!

Guess I was wrong about it being easy. Here's a hint.
The movie introduced "Russian roulette" to a lot of viewers.

Okay, so you've narrowed it down to ~20 movies. Are you going to give a substantial hint or make Tak list every one. ;)

Gnarfflinger
Mon, 3rd Dec '07, 7:23am
For crying out loud, the Album "Who Made Who" is the soundtrack for the movie...

Besides, I thought Carrie was fromt he 1970's...

Takara
Mon, 3rd Dec '07, 9:52am
We're obviousoly not AC/DC fans. :p Searched for the album and saw the film name. Never saw it, so wouldn't have guessed it, even with hints.

nior
Mon, 3rd Dec '07, 11:26am
The only movie with AC/DC song I know is "Maximum Overdrive". That would be my wild guess.

T2Bruno
Tue, 4th Dec '07, 3:23pm
You should go nior... wiki says you're right.

T2Bruno
Sat, 8th Dec '07, 7:30pm
I only got it from the hint as well.

White Christmas -- Bing Crosby. The movie the song was written for please.

nior
Mon, 10th Dec '07, 3:05am
The song was played during V and Evey's dance. It was kind'a subdued in the movie.

No idea with T2's entry.

Carcaroth
Mon, 10th Dec '07, 4:38pm
So... was it not written for the film "White Christmas", starring... Bing Crosby?

T2Bruno
Mon, 10th Dec '07, 4:54pm
Actually, the movie 'White Christmas' was written for the song -- which had huge appeal since it's introduction in a movie 12 years earlier (which also starred Bing Crosby).

In fact, the movie and song were so popular, a chain of hotels was named after the movie to cash in on the name recognition....

Takara
Tue, 11th Dec '07, 1:41pm
Hilton? I don't know if there's a movie called Hilton, just thinking of hotel chains. My knowledge of Bing Crosby is zip!

Aldazar
Thu, 13th Dec '07, 4:57am
Rain Man?

I once had a cassette tape with lesser-known songs-from-movies on it, this was one of those songs and that's the only movie I actually remember from the tape, though I think it may have had a song from Scrooged on it

Takara
Thu, 13th Dec '07, 10:08am
Interesting, but sadly no. This song won Carly Simon an oscar for songs written for films. I loved it ever since I saw this film, so got it on my comp to play often.

Takara
Fri, 14th Dec '07, 11:02am
This is quite surprising. Only Aldazar has made an intresting, but wrong, guess. Ok, hints: This was for a movie in late 80s, and it was based in New York. At the beginning, and end, of the film you see the world trade centre as this song is playing. Such a horrendous act to destroy it on 9/11.

T2Bruno
Fri, 14th Dec '07, 4:51pm
 Working Girl.

Takara
Fri, 14th Dec '07, 4:53pm

J Ralph - Kansas City Shuffle

nior
Tue, 18th Dec '07, 2:55am
How about a hint.

Enagonios
Tue, 18th Dec '07, 5:36am
hmmm, okay. This was released in the first quarter of 2006 and according to imdb it received 4 wins and 3 nominations. It has a star-studded cast and the song is quite prominent in the movie.

Aside from the whole song being played in the last scene and finishing during the credits, it also played during the movie's trailer. More significantly, the definition of a "Kansas City Shuffle" is discussed by one of the movie's lead actors at the beginning of the movie, and its mentioned a couple of times later in the movie towards the end as well.

Enagonios
Sat, 22nd Dec '07, 11:02am
Right, I killed it. Anyway, the movie in question was Lucky Number Slevin. A surprisingly entertaining movie imo.

This next one is a lay-up for the next person.

Aqua - Turn Back Time

I have a feeling Takara's gonna get this :D

Takara
Sat, 22nd Dec '07, 11:20am
LOL! I just guessed this movie in the movie scene game. Sliding Doors. I don't know if they used this in the film, or just the trailer. But i've used a trailer song myself before.

New song to guess: I will find you by Clannad

Enagonios
Sun, 23rd Dec '07, 3:42am
haha I remember it from the trailer also. I saw you make the guess in the scene game and just used it. I figured, if I'm gonna toss one in the air, it might as well be a sure catch :D

Takara
Sun, 23rd Dec '07, 5:29pm
Was a very good song to post. I'd never have thought of posting that one in a million years.

Aldazar
Mon, 24th Dec '07, 3:28pm
That HAS to be from The Last Of The Mohicans, the scene after the girls have been taken by Magwa and they are being pursued by Chingachgook Uncas and Hawkeye

Takara
Mon, 24th Dec '07, 5:06pm
Yup, you got it. I love that song, and I love that film. :D

Aldazar
Mon, 24th Dec '07, 5:12pm
Ditto, never fails to bring a tear to my eye...and I always cheer when, after seeing Uncas die at Magwa's hand, Chingachgook does his roll under Magwa's swing and then absolutely hammers him with that spiked axe-thing

Anyway, hopefully this is a softball:

"After Dark" by Tito and Tarantula

Takara
Mon, 24th Dec '07, 6:48pm
On hearing this it does ring a bell, but i'm not sure where from. My mind is saying Tarantino. Probably not, but i'll guess Jackie Brown?

Aldazar
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 6:17am
You're close on the Tarantino connection, he's definitely involved in this film both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, Not Jackie Brown though

Takara
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 10:46am
Resevoir Dogs? I'd have guessed Pulp Fiction, but he doesn't star in that one.

Aldazar
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 10:55am
No on both counts, though he does have a role in Pulp Fiction, he plays Jimmy, the guy Jules and Vincent take the car to after Marvin gets shot in the head, right track still though, he did have a hand in writing this film

Takara
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 11:39am
From Dusk Till Dawn? I know i've seen a film using this song!, gah! is it when Salma Hayek is doing the dance?

Aldazar
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 12:06pm
Indeed it is! I have both the DVD and the CD soundtrack and that track is often on repeat for an hour or so every few days, I can't honestly say I've ever seen anything in a movie which even comes close to oozing so much so much sex appeal.

Anyway, take it away Takara

Takara
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 12:13pm
When I went on to itunes to try and hear a snippet of the track, I was like :bang:. I knew i'd heard it. My brain was saying Tarantino, but also dancing. I thought Strictly Ballroom was out, so I thought Jackie Brown when DeNiro is in the van with dancy Bridget Fonda. The brain canh be a harsh misstress sometimes! :(

Since that has knackered me out, i'll make mine a bit easier then I would have.
All Saints - Pure Shores

Aldazar
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 12:19pm
Not The Beach is it? The one with Leo DiCaprio?

Takara
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 12:24pm
Yeah, that it is. :D

Aldazar
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 12:35pm
Ok, another likely softball, only cos I'm stuck for slightly harder ones:

Iirc it's called something like "Morena De Mi Corazon" by Los Lobos, also accompanied by a very cool performance by the main actor in the film

T2Bruno
Tue, 25th Dec '07, 7:05pm
La Bamba

Aldazar
Wed, 26th Dec '07, 5:45am
Nope, a little bit more recent this one, about 5 years after La bamba I think

Aldazar
Mon, 31st Dec '07, 4:48pm
I guess another hint may be in order, Antonio Banderas appears in this film

Takara

Desperado?

Take it Takara, It's the opening song in Desperado

Takara
Wed, 2nd Jan '08, 10:50am
Really? Only saw it.... once or twice. I figured Mexican or Spannish song with Antonio Bandereras, I started to think Desperado. Next i'd have guessed Once upon a Time in Mexico.
OK: Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps by Doris Day

Takara
Thu, 3rd Jan '08, 12:16pm
Heh, Kuemper would probably get this real quick. If you've seen this film, on hearing this song then you can't fail to picture the two leads dancing.

Takara
Fri, 4th Jan '08, 12:33pm
Well, you saw the hint about this song playing whilst the leads dance, this film is set in Australia, and is imo Baz Luhrmann's best film.

Takara
Mon, 7th Jan '08, 6:09pm
Well, seems i've defeated you. Is Strictly Ballroom. When the two are dancing whilst Tina Sparkle is on the dancefloor, it's wonderful. An easier one, You shook me all night long by Ac/DC. And this was performed by them during this film.

Gnarfflinger
Tue, 8th Jan '08, 3:37am
Private Parts. (the Howard Stern movie).

Takara
Tue, 8th Jan '08, 10:19am
Indeed it is. such a funny movie.

Gnarfflinger
Wed, 9th Jan '08, 5:39am
While we're on the theme of actually performing the sone in the movie:

"Feed My Frankenstein" by Alice Cooper.

Wayne's World...

"We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

Gnarfflinger
Wed, 9th Jan '08, 5:56am
That's right. Man was that quick.

Aldazar
Wed, 9th Jan '08, 6:05am
Okay:

The Beatles "Twist And Shout"

This may be in other movies than the one I'm thinking of so in this film it's "performed" by the lead character in the middle of a packed street

nior
