View Full Version : I am not one of the 2%.
Jaguar Mon, 8th Mar '04, 10:21pm I got this in an e-mail and had to post it. Sadly, I am not as different as I though I was.
Just follow the instructions as quickly as possible. Do not go to the next calculation before you have finished the previous one. You do not need to write or remember the answers, just do it using your mind. You'll be surprised.

You have just thought about a red hammer, haven't you????
>

If this is not the case, you are among 2% of people who have a "different" if not "abnormal" mind. 98% of the folks would answer a "red hammer" while doing this exercise. Scary, isn't it.
Xei Win Toh Mon, 8th Mar '04, 10:25pm Ah ha! I thought of a yellow hammer. Whee, I'm special!
8people Mon, 8th Mar '04, 10:34pm I thought about Green Screwdriver...
that's odd...
JSBB Mon, 8th Mar '04, 10:44pm Black saw.
Not a surprise that I didn't come up with the usual answer for one of these things, I almost never do.
Back in a psych classes I took at university, I drove the prof nuts by never thinking/perceiving the way that "normal" people do. He claimed that I was the only student he had ever taught who had to be talked through how to see one of the optical illusions in the manner that "everyone" normally perceives it.
It was quite amusing actually, everyone else had trouble seeing it the way I did and had to be talked through how to do so. Meanwhile I had to be talked through how to see it the other way around.
Mesmero Mon, 8th Mar '04, 10:50pm Blue hammer.
Blue is my favorite color, so it's probably only logical that I chose it. And I also have an hatred for red.
Gavin de Valge Mon, 8th Mar '04, 10:56pm Blue wrench...it's odd, no one has admitted to being one of the 98%
The Great Snook Mon, 8th Mar '04, 10:58pm I did this one a couple months ago and was a red hammer.
Harkle Mon, 8th Mar '04, 11:09pm I thought about green toy hammer. :D So, I'm not one of the mass!
Actually this was kinda stupid test...
Dragon's Jewel Mon, 8th Mar '04, 11:12pm I saw a blue hammer too... at least most people are getting the 'hammer' part
Alavin Mon, 8th Mar '04, 11:13pm Red spanner!
Almost the same sound, I suppose.
farard Mon, 8th Mar '04, 11:37pm didn't think of a colour or tool, case of substance abuse??????.
Blog Tue, 9th Mar '04, 1:38am My first thought was a black calculator for obvious reasons... I thought they were referring to a tool in a figurative sense, not from a mechanical shop. Then I scrolled down and spoiled it before I could correct my answer. Oops.
Blue Tue, 9th Mar '04, 1:54am A blue screwdriver
Abomination Tue, 9th Mar '04, 2:23am Green chainsaw... Methinks I'm pretty wack :\
metal leper Tue, 9th Mar '04, 2:24am I can't read so I just thought green
reepnorp Tue, 9th Mar '04, 2:35am Red hammer. LEAVE MY BRAIN ALONE!
Sir Belisarius Tue, 9th Mar '04, 4:33am Blue Hammer!
dmc Tue, 9th Mar '04, 5:39am Orange screwdriver, but I already knew I wasn't normal.
Dragonfly Tue, 9th Mar '04, 5:46am Red screwdriver...does that mean I'm 1/2 average?
Vyndin Source Tue, 9th Mar '04, 10:46am Hmm, I'm one of three that has gotten the blue hammer in mind, but as Mesmero, my favourite color is blue...
A coincidence?... :hmm:
Baldrak Tue, 9th Mar '04, 11:02am Green hammer...
Does this mean I'm partly normal?
Thais Paradox Tue, 9th Mar '04, 11:31am Metal hammer with a red rubber grip.
Fits the category, but strangely disturbing... :p
Taza Tue, 9th Mar '04, 12:19pm Blue wrench...
But me be odd anywayz. :p
Dalveen Tue, 9th Mar '04, 1:17pm chalk up another blue hammer here.
Rallymama Tue, 9th Mar '04, 2:48pm Orange ratchet. I don't think I want to know.
Loerand Tue, 9th Mar '04, 4:38pm Hmm, grey wrench.
I don't think that "test" is valid somehow ;)
spetznaz Tue, 9th Mar '04, 4:46pm Ended up with a red hammer, though I hardly believe this test, since most people seem to think of something else. Mayby it's the other way around? :p
Jaguar Tue, 9th Mar '04, 5:44pm Well, if you are looking for a group of people in the norm, chances are there are not any here. Most people who get the red hammer here get it from random chance.
Here at SP, we are all a little nuts in the toque.
Splunge Tue, 9th Mar '04, 7:22pm Grey hammer.
Lazy Bonzo Tue, 9th Mar '04, 7:34pm Blue Screwdriver
The Kilted Crusader Tue, 9th Mar '04, 10:21pm Chev in blue! (well, he is a a bit of a tool ;) )
Duke Eltan Tue, 9th Mar '04, 10:44pm Yellow hammer. What´s with the hammers I wonder...
And as stated, it almost seem like the ones that get red hammer is the different people.
Or maybe this is just the wrong place to look for normal people :D
Fiatil Tue, 9th Mar '04, 10:51pm blue hammer here.
Barmy Army Tue, 9th Mar '04, 11:02pm Blue screwdriver. Same as Lazy Bonzo. Hehe, mad.
Darhken Rahl Wed, 10th Mar '04, 2:01am orange screwdriver..we here at sp seem to make up alot of that 2% ; )
Malovae Wed, 10th Mar '04, 3:27am Blue hammer. hmmmm
Aldazar Wed, 10th Mar '04, 4:06am Another Blue Hammer. Almost a Blue Handsaw but that came in too slow.
Shell Wed, 10th Mar '04, 12:13pm Red spanner :)
Viking Wed, 10th Mar '04, 1:43pm Chalk up yet another Blue Hammer.
Hmm - Perhaps we *are* the norm, it's all the others that are different?
Register Wed, 10th Mar '04, 9:55pm Pink Chainsaw
Khazraj Thu, 11th Mar '04, 10:26am My PC, it's the best tool that I own...
Man that has to be one of the lamest "quizes" I have even read...
Meatdog Thu, 11th Mar '04, 12:19pm well, a blue hammer here too. But I have a theory why there are so many blue hammers. Actually, most of them would have thought of a red hammer if it hadnt' been for the blueish purple background of SP, which influences the choice of color. For this test to be valid, it has to be in black letters on a white background IMHO. If the background would have had a saw, then most people probably would have thought about a saw.
Just my two eurocents :p
Fallen Paladin Thu, 11th Mar '04, 5:08pm Black Hammer
Maertyn Thu, 11th Mar '04, 9:13pm Red hammer. According to this thread, it's coincidence though.
Dendri Fri, 12th Mar '04, 2:38am Black hammer.
But what does that prove?
Is half of me an independent individual, while the hammer-half is massproduced standard?
:hmm:
Ah, who cares.
Maertyn Fri, 12th Mar '04, 1:21pm My friend just got a red hammer, too!
BigStick Fri, 12th Mar '04, 1:45pm Silver calculator. Not sure if that's good or bad...
Arahar Fri, 12th Mar '04, 3:04pm mauve adze... I think I be slightly messed up in the brain case.
JSBB Fri, 12th Mar '04, 6:21pm My brother said red hammer. Maybe our different results are because RPGers think differently from "normal" folk. Then again, it is probably just that the 98% figure is vastly overstated.
Master of Nuhn Fri, 12th Mar '04, 8:00pm I've been hacking away on kilos of old wooden trash today, with a red hammer.
Mr Writer Fri, 12th Mar '04, 8:28pm --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought about Green Screwdriver...
How odd, so did I :)
Sarevok 435 Fri, 12th Mar '04, 9:42pm green hammer
Xerxes Sat, 13th Mar '04, 6:07am red hammer, arg, im so dissapointed...
teekc Sat, 13th Mar '04, 6:27am Is there an explanation for this?
Foradasthar Sat, 13th Mar '04, 10:38am I did this test a year or two back as well. Then it had 3 parts, each very much the same as this one. I got 1 or 2 out of 3 the same way as the test assumed.
Now, when I read "tool and a colour" the only thought I had was a hammer and a carrot, then I moved on and read what it was supposed to be. So guess my colour would be orange. Close enough I suppose.
But I have a problem with my "different" thinking as well, truth be said. I'm very stupid in other things, while very insightful in others. And even generally my problem is that I focus on different things than others normally do when trying to learn something, listen to something or otherwise analyze a problem. I don't count this as an advantage. While the good thing about it is I feel unique and hopeful there's something great about me, the bad thing is that I just don't blend in. And I'm getting quite tired of soloing through this life of mine.
SaChaele Sat, 13th Mar '04, 9:43pm What?! Damn I couldn't think about a single tool... Well now I always knew I was special, I just didn't realize it was that bad! ;)
And as for the colors, I can uderstand why so many are getting blue. Just looka at the background ;)
Volsung Sat, 13th Mar '04, 10:12pm Red hammer!
Well, no wonder if you think that I have an obsession with hammers and my favorite colour is red...
But, anyway, does this mean I'm normal? I don't think so... Like Foradasthar: "I'm very stupid in other things, while very insightful in others."
Deathmage Sun, 14th Mar '04, 1:54am Odd, I had a green hammer.
But it is a hammer.
Weird.
Nobleman Tue, 16th Mar '04, 11:40am Leave my red hammer alone! or my brain for that sake!
I think this test is made for danes, we always use hammers and red is our flag colour, so instinctively we think of those... Timepressure is the essense! Or Telepathy. or alien invasions... :mommy:
Red
Blue
Green
The most common and also the basic colours. I guess those making the test thought a hammer was a basic tool, but what we have seen here is everything from calculators to chainsaw. Roleplayers are so imaginative and inspiring! :thumb:
Still time seems important here, right? The more unusual answers you have, the better part of a split second you guys did spend on thinking out a tool and a colour? My guess is that those spending more than a half a second, found "alternative" answers to a hammer and even to the RGB colours; Most commonly the achromatic colours.

Neriana Tue, 16th Mar '04, 11:47am Blue flashlight. :hmm:
Maybe that means I'm enlightened  .
Faerus Stoneslammer Tue, 16th Mar '04, 11:57am Red wrench, red wrench!! Yay, I'm special!! :hahaerr:
Red's my favourite colour...and the alliteration made it easier to say...meh (that's my explanation)
Vyndin Source Tue, 16th Mar '04, 12:30pm RGB colours Aha!, the TV is causing us to pick those colors! :jawdrop:
It's a conpiracy!. Can't figure out who's winning on this however... :hmm:
Well, this test only goes to show that most SP members are special. ;)
/laughing insanely, but provocatively, at the rest of the world!, as they stare jealously. :(
(It feels SO good to be me... )
dman18 Fri, 19th Mar '04, 3:36am That is freaky, i got red hammer, but I looked to my left (memory turn, right is "im making it up turn") and said "hammer, red!" then i scroll, and wow, surprise...
I'm going to take that to my high school and see what they do...
UsagiRyu Fri, 19th Mar '04, 3:14pm Silver clamp. Well, I need to repair a chair so I guess that's why.
Math = Evil
Lady Luthien Mon, 22nd Mar '04, 5:22pm yellow shovel (?!)
Well, all geniuses are abnormal, aren't they? :p
Fergus Tue, 23rd Mar '04, 5:57pm I don't think it works.
I got yellow screwdriver.
Ho Hummmmm
Lady Luthien Tue, 23rd Mar '04, 6:27pm Fergus, ya got yellow too?
It must be that smiling mood! :) ;) :) ;) :)
Kemkon Tue, 23rd Mar '04, 10:47pm Blue Hammer! ITS A CONSPIRACY!
The Soul Forever Seeking Tue, 30th Mar '04, 2:18am Blue wrench. So there. :)
Lokken Tue, 30th Mar '04, 1:13pm green hammer here
I have to admit this is a fantastic test! The narrow spectrum of answers just tell us how much the average person deal with tools and colours.
Even more curious is that none has actually successfully managed to seperate the tool from the colour. They ask for a tool and a colour, but everyone so far seems to have thought of a coloured tool.
Amatorius Tue, 30th Mar '04, 3:37pm My first thought was a Black Machete.
Well no-one can say it's not original :hahaerr:
What can I say, I do collect knives after all, and that *is* a really big version of a knife...
Betcha a shrink would love to getta hold of this result.  :p
Sniper Fri, 2nd Apr '04, 3:03pm Red Spanner lol
Yeah I'm in the 2% :)
So thats why people look at me funny ...
Gehn Fri, 2nd Apr '04, 9:58pm This test is idiotic...blue spanner, bah!
Takara Tue, 6th Apr '04, 5:10pm I don't think i understood it cos I got an iron cloured wrench
Wiegraf Folles Tue, 6th Apr '04, 8:39pm :yot: you guys all belong in padded rooms, you know that, right?
Tassadar Wed, 7th Apr '04, 2:04am There was a similar test where you had to think of the first vegetable that popped in your head.
My friend got courgettes, absolute crackup.
98% of people get carrot.
Hugo Thu, 8th Apr '04, 3:13pm A dark blue monkey-wrench
I just saw it, I had to draw it for my friends then look it up in a dutch-english dictionary before I could write my response
VERY disturbing
Bion Thu, 8th Apr '04, 7:46pm hmmm. maybe this test only works with north americans? and in the UK the expected answer would be "red spanner"? (we north americans like to put wrenches, not spanners, in the works...)
Rolsuk Fryulee Sun, 11th Apr '04, 5:08am Uhhh, is a sword a tool??? :mommy: I thought of a blue sword. That's too much rolepaying and reading for me I guesses. At least I'm not normal, and since most of you aren't normal, and my answer isn't normal to you, what does that make me???? :hmmm:
people person-i eat people Tue, 13th Apr '04, 6:07am i thought of a blue hammer and yeh i dont think that test is very good, a lot of people are not thinking of a red hammer, or they are just cheating by scrolling down and not answering the sums
