Here's (http://www.elvish.org/elm/names.html) an interesting little website. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and pick the letter that corresponds with the first letter of your (first) name.
Feel free to post with your Quenya names.

Sadly, my name's just too plain unusual to be there :( , so I have to find out what it means and then translate into Quenya...one day...

EDIT: And that day is come!! :spin: :rolling:
My name, *deleted*, is an alternate spelling of the Finnish name Jouko. Now, according to this website (http://www.behindthename.com/nm/j3.html), Jouko is the Finnish form of the name Jacob. Referring back to the Quenya name site, the Quenya name for Jacob is Encaitar.

Masha, russian diminutive form of Maria...
Apparently bitterness :( , so Sárie ---> Sárince or Sárelle.

Humph, nothing beats Lady Luthien :D

I'm Oitur or Ertur. Too short for me. I want at least three syllables in my elf names!

EDIT: with my middle names, I can be Nostarion or Calimbandil too. Much better!

My first name was not listed, but if I've interpreted their translation scheme correctly, it would be Alcaro or Alcaron.

My middle name did show up and was translated to Alco or Alcon.

So I guess my Quenya name would be either Alcaro Alcon or Alcaron Alco. :D

I find the alliteration interesting, considering that my real name is Rodney Ray.

I feel debased.
My name isnt part of that list... and its common enough.
But a quite similar name would be Mirimon or Leron in Quenya. Which sounds nice, so I am appeased.

My name is Wout, which comes from Wouter, which comes from Walter, so:

WALTER: Frankish Waldheri means something like "army-commander" (waldan "to rule", heri or hari "army, host"). Rimbe is the Quenya word for "host" - stem RIM. For "ruler, commander" we could use tur again, but cáno, cánu "ruler, governor, chieftain" is even better (UT:400). Thus Walter = Rimbecáno.

EMIL (m.) - from Latin 'rival'; cotumo "enemy", hence Cotumo itself

Nocturnal Nomad
Sat, 17th Apr '04, 11:37am
NEIL, NEAL (m.) - perhaps Gaelic 'champion' or 'cloud'; aráto "champion, eminent man", lumbo "cloud", so Aráto or Lumbo as such

Champion/eminent man is cool, but cloud?

So Aráto it is.

MICHELLE (f.) - feminine form of MICHAEL (q.v.), thus Manveri
LOUISE (f.) - a fem. form of LOUIS (q.v.), thus Alcarohtare

Also:

JACK (m.) - a pet form of JOHN or JACOB (q.v.), thus Eruantalon or Eruntalon (for a difference could be used Eruantalo or Eruntalo), or Encaitar

Thijs from Matthijs from Mattias.

MATTHEW (m.) - Heb. 'gift of God'; Eru "God"; anna "gift", thus:

Right ... on both sites couldn't find my real name so I used my abbreviated (and more commonly used) name - Taf.

That wasn't in there, so I tried Taffy which was and is the closest to my name.

Taffy apparantly is the loving name given to people called David ... silly website!

CHecked it out on the Quenya website and it appears that David also means Lavir in Quenya

Lavir ... that sounds a bit girlie no for a man's name?

Meldon, see NWHAGEN; some David adopted and adapted his name to Eldarin languages, so Lavir in Quenya and Dewidh in Sindarin
