<artof tanz>God i'm a loser.
<artof tanz>Some commercial for a sitcom said this
<artof tanz>wife: "what color are my eyes?!" husband: "34C"
<artof tanz>and I'm like, wtf thats not an RGB value
Seen it? One day, I left my house, looked around, spent a couple minutes adjusting my eyes to daylight and thought "wow, someone made a nice sky, but the colours aren't really natural".
Another time, after playing Duke Nukem on LAN for too long, when I finally walked out, I was like "Where are they camping?" and looking out for guys with bazookas behind storage containers.
Sometimes, when I succeed in something, I think of quest XP values before I can help it. Once, I called my brother a Half Orc with-8-INT, 8 WIS and 6 CHA.
I would also count things in HEXX values (in memory) or, when I still had maths, write "var" when defining things.
Any tales to share?

When I meet people, or see people on TV, I try to figure out what alignment they are. I'm like, he's CE, or he's LN. It was then that I realised I'd played way too much d&d.
Mon, 28th Jun '04, 10:01pm
When something goes wrong, I sometimes think "never mind, I'll just reload my last save".
Mon, 28th Jun '04, 10:12pm
Harbourboy - lol - I've done that too. :D
And speaking of "lol", sometimes in converstion, I've had to catch myself before I said "l.o.l." in response to something funny. :shake:
And I keep wanting to put smilies in business letters.
Mon, 28th Jun '04, 10:24pm
Smilies in any documents... check.
Trying to reload if something goes wrong... check.
Saying "lol" out loud... check.
Thinking that someone has that and that D&D alingment... check.
Thinking "someone made great work at that but it still doesn't look natural" while looking at something real... check.
Trying to use command prompt when in real life...
Seeing my IRC screen when AFK...
Having Chillout or HappyHardcore play on my head...
Trying to cast Teleport Without Error or Dimensional door in real life...
Trying to cast Magic Missile or Finger of Death in real life...
Using "RL" of real life while afk...
Thinking of colors as RGB values...
And lots and lots of more... i'm addicted. :p
Mon, 28th Jun '04, 10:56pm
@Splunge: I new I forgot about something ;)
Yeah, I said "lol" when flirting with a girl even today. In fact, I said "lmao" once, but, fortunately, there were only men around, none of whom sober.
Smileys on notes for family in the house.
"In real D&D, I'd own this guy. I clearly have better stats" - about a uni teacher, IIRC. Notice "in real D&D".
How about alignment change? Like "Waitasec, it's going to change my alignment." in real life? :shake:
Mon, 28th Jun '04, 11:24pm
Hehe, it's pretty much the same with me.
Saying LOL out loud... few schoolmates then began to say it as well, and now the whole class is saying lol when there's something funny :)
Same with alignment... i find there are way too many lawful people around. Way to many.
About reloading... i only get that syndrome after extensive playing for a few days. Like 3-4 days of 12+hours play. Otherwise not so much.
Oh, sometimes i can see how my BAB has increased. I'm around +3 by now :D
And i'm so impressed with my dodging... i must have the dodge feat. Not mobility yet though.
Mon, 28th Jun '04, 11:33pm
Yeah, the Reload Syndrome :D It's dormant in me, recently, because I haven't played reloadable games often for a long time.
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 10:18am
I always say lol, and quite often speak in |337 IRL.
Me and a friend were having a conversation about hacking, and he goes: 'Hax ... erm. HACKER'
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 10:32am
I do write smilies on tests and notes and cards. write ff in letters. and use IMHO and STFU durin conversations :S

Thinking of people's alignment.
Want to reload saves.
LOL is part of the common language that I and most of my friends speak. :xx:
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 1:34pm
What about calling people "noob" when they screw up?
"Lol" is also a noun. Especially when I'm talking to my brother ;)
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 2:39pm
Anybody remember Vandal Hearts for the PS1? I was seeing blue squares on the floor for days and had to remind myself that I could move further than them
Dave the Magic Turtle
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 7:26pm
After playing Dynasty Warriors 4 for a long time I was seeing health bars above peoples heads, that was weird :D
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 7:34pm
You are all nutcases :toofar:
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 9:19pm
Haha, funny that, I was just thinking the same Sarevok :D .
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 9:23pm
hmm, it's nice to discover you are not alone on the world :D
Tue, 29th Jun '04, 9:28pm
Maybe its just me, but I sometimes find my mind wandering and laying out battle plans. Pairing people off, thinking about stats and what not.
Thu, 1st Jul '04, 5:41pm
Sometimes, spcially when I am cycling, I wish I could see myself from a 3rd person, isometric view...
Thu, 1st Jul '04, 10:14pm
What about having Lovetalks with RL people?
I referred to a RL girl once as "romance NPC" :shake:

I’ve had a lot of these happen, too. Similar to Malovae’s Vandal Hearts problem, after playing a couple of solid weeks of Fantasy General, I saw a hex grid superimposed on everything… it was like there was an afterimage burnt into my retina. It was somewhat distracting, but went away after a few days.
Hax0r, Sux0r, and Rox0r are now part of my RL vocab. Some of my friends use it, too. It’s not uncommon to have one of us say “you sux0rs so hard la~” out loud. I actually threw that particular one at my mum one day, only to cop “YOU are suck; I am rule” back from her… it seems people pick it up pretty quickly.
By far my funniest “get a grip” moment happened when I was studying at Uni. Four of five of us had brought our computers over to a mate’s place and set up a LAN. We spent most of the night playing TFC (Team Fortress Classic – a multiplayer FPS based on the Halflife engine). TFC has various classes you can play as, and it seemed everyone’s favourite that evening was the sniper. When playing a sniper, to do more damage, you hold the fire button down to “build” your shot. While you do this, your gun projects a red dot on its target. If you’re aiming directly at someone’s head, they will see a red light shining in their eyes. Because they usually die about 1/2 of a second later, people freak out when they see that light. It becomes a reflex to sidestep or duck. Anyway, we finished up at about 3 in the morning, and started packing our gear up. As I didn’t have a car at that stage, a mate was driving me home. I was loading the last of the gear into the boot of his car as he sat down in the driver’s seat and touched the brake. This of course turned the brake lights on. Because of my position, the red of the lights shone straight into my eyes. I skipped sideways and wound up in a bush in the adjacent garden. I explained myself when I had stopped laughing, and the “what the hell are you doing?” looks of the witnesses turned to laughter, too.

Phew! Thank God this was posted... I got some relief now... I thought I was a nut case years ago. But now I see we all share a common view and a few oddities as well. :tie:
Fri, 2nd Jul '04, 2:45pm
I use these words regurarly:
I also keep thinking what alignment Bush and other famous people have.
I am currently leaning towards Chaotic Evil for him, but that is not to be discussed here. :D
Fri, 2nd Jul '04, 5:40pm
There are only 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
I've learned binary, and when I started doing some simple mathematics with it, I found out it was much easier than with regular numbers. Somehow it also makes more sense to count this way.
11 + 100 = 111
111 + 1010 = 10001
10001 + 1110 = 11111
I used adding as an example. Do you see how logical this is?
Fri, 2nd Jul '04, 6:11pm
Isn't HEXX better?
But once I made up a hexxa-whatever (36) system for a program I was writing :shake:
All digits plus letters up to Z

Once I read I post about some guy playing so much racing games and doing things like searching the reset button, well, I thought that is too much... well...
Last month, after played NFS Underground for 6 months, I had an accident, after just hit a tree, I searched for "that" button...
I was on a long - straight road, so when I got about 100km/h, instantly I tried to press space bar... the one I use to NOS...
Crazy man, one day I'll kill myself...
Wed, 7th Jul '04, 8:48pm
I've been playing with knives since I saw Alice.
Look out for monsters if I enter an unknown place.
Look for dialog options when I try to pick up a girl.
Been thinking certain food made me larger or smaller...
Wed, 7th Jul '04, 9:57pm
Saying LOL out loud, puting smily faces in school essays..I've been playing everquest a lot lately and there is a big use of the word "noob" so I had toi stop myself in school once from saying "stfu your a stupid noob who doesn't know how to play his class" :p
Thu, 8th Jul '04, 1:26am
I say lol and stuff like that in RL, also I had things like searching for the save/compile button while posting on a forum
Thu, 8th Jul '04, 1:58am
Ever held a weapon and wondered what BAB or Thac0 you have?
Thu, 8th Jul '04, 11:27am
No when I hold a weapon I search for monsters to kill..even worse I guess!
Thu, 8th Jul '04, 3:15pm
I once said LOL in RL... fortunately no-one understood it...
Every time I meet (or even simply see) someone I try to figure out his alignment, his stats etc.
Ever held a weapon and wondered what BAB or Thac0 you have? This happens to me not only with weapons... it works the same with wooden sticks, umbrellas and the such :D

Thu, 8th Jul '04, 7:01pm
I sometimes think stuff like "It doesn't matter if I screw up, I can always reload" "I better save my game" :p
Thu, 8th Jul '04, 9:48pm
Ever looked for a pause button? I did today :p
Fri, 9th Jul '04, 12:31am
Whenever I'm gonna type "What the hell?" I ALWAYS type "What in the nine hells?.
Doesn't fit in Star Wars Galaxies, if you ask me :p
Fri, 9th Jul '04, 3:37am
@Jesper: Life is an ironman game. You can't reload and when you're dead, you're dead. :D
Fri, 9th Jul '04, 5:23pm
@Chevalier: Yes, unfortunately. And you can't use Shadowkeeper either :p
Sun, 11th Jul '04, 2:17am
Wanting to speed up waiting situations after playing "The Sims" for hours!
Saying LOL in public!
Dreaming in "Baldur's Gate" view - yes, happened to me last summer (4 weeks BG straight)...
Sun, 11th Jul '04, 7:48am
Two months ago I was either very drunk or very very tired. My bank account was running low and I went to www.gamefaqs.com (http://www.gamefaqs.com) looking for a cheat to give me more money...
Worst thing was, failing to find any mention of the game "Simon's Life" I figured there weren't any cheats so I'd have to make my own trainer.
I spent the next 30 minutes using 'GameHack' looking for the "Simon's Life" process.
I say "lol" in real life sometimes.
I wish I could reload a previous save.

I used to play the sims so much i used to think my status bars were low in real life
Now after playing BG1,BG2,IWD1,IWD2 I want all my food cooked over an open fire.
Scary Note: After work last night i actually caugt myself trying to hide in the shadows
Sun, 11th Jul '04, 10:31pm
The Sims
I actually tried increasing the bars to get better results at the uni. And it worked
Mon, 12th Jul '04, 12:01am
I dreamed myself into BG a while back. I was arguing with another me as to why a Monk can't wield a staff
All this time later, all the self-help (for it evidently troubled me deeply), and I still don't understand.

I keep thinking of how much HP people have, the way the HP system is flawed, and what class and level people are.
I keep daydreaming of how life would be as an Epic-level wizard...
Thu, 15th Jul '04, 4:38am
Just thought of another one: After I had completed my final exams at school (I mean the really final ones) I thought I'd hear the "Diablo II" level-up sound and felt the need to press a red button for skill distribution; that was very weird.
Thu, 15th Jul '04, 3:52pm
I caught myself trying to lay hands on people for injure recovery (had my hands already extended) and detect evil (was focusing my mind on evil detection). Once I also regretted sorely I couldn't throw a fireball in a direction of my choice.
Fri, 16th Jul '04, 10:46am
I think of my friend by his screenname now :-/

One day the games will get to you, I promise.

-Lol is a common word I use with my friends as well.
-HC is another one (spelled "h" "c"), stands for hardcore.
-I used to be quite active in my attempts to use the force to switch lights etc. Now I only do it once a few months.
-I often see "stairs" when I look at angled lines in real life, and think "man I need to turn the antialiasing up". Not as much confusing the real with the unreal. It's more of a longing for the ability to change display settings like you could in a computer.
-Reload syndrome happens a few times a year.
-Also when I injure a bodypart, I usually get the thought of throwing it away and ordering a new one in to replace it.
Fri, 16th Jul '04, 10:43pm
Bwahaha - and I thought I was bad after getting mocked for saying w00t.
Yea, I often (day)dream about achieving mastery of Magic & Mysteries too.
Furthermore, I've caught myself actually floating off the ground when trying to use the force to fly - I need counseling.
LOL in fact means fun in Dutch (the language spoken in Holland) so it's not that crazy for me to use it.
Sat, 17th Jul '04, 12:47am
Aik, I refer to my brother by his screenname...
Wed, 4th Aug '04, 11:16pm
Whenever I'm about to do something that might not turn out quite right, I always forget how to quicksave..... When it hits me that I'm going slightly mad, I force myself out the door and go somewhere for a while. Then I realise I've just wasted 2 hours of good gaming time, and try to load back up to redo the last few hours. I think I need a computer break of a few months..... Then again, what does it matter? If computer games are escapism, I'm an escapist!!!
Thu, 5th Aug '04, 3:00am
I Dreamed of being In Alice and the only way to go to wonderland was to **** her so I did.
And then my twisted fantasies get mixed with wonderland and it was one great trip but when I told my ex girlfriend about it she look at me in that "your stupid" way just like she did when I wore my Immortall shirt....
But I had an ensouled scimitar!
Fri, 6th Aug '04, 1:55pm
Ooh, all of this is so very familar.... in fact, a few weeks back after excessively playing Zangband and being repeatedly killed by spiders (no saves in that one) I nearly fell on my knees when i saw a spider in the kitchen, in order to pray for Lolth to not to kill any more of them off :p
And yeah, saying lol is addictive :p
Fri, 6th Aug '04, 7:58pm
Ok, I was about to say "none of this has ever happened to me!" (well... I used to actually dodge the Cyberdemone's missiles in Doom (E2M8) 10 years ago... but that was a long time ago!), then I read Foradasthar's post, saw HC and immediately thought, "what's Heroes Chronicles got to do with anything?"
So I suppose we all ARE nuts after all!
Fri, 6th Aug '04, 8:19pm
The occasional LoL does come out of my mouth but fortunatly Lol in dutch means having fun, so it doesn't sound weird when I use it when talking to a countryman.
Sat, 7th Aug '04, 11:59am
I lol quite a bit and, yesterday, when picking up a pot of boiling water I had a strong feeling that there was a button I could press to quicksave, in case I spilt some onto me. Wierd.
Wed, 18th Aug '04, 6:29pm
I sometimes fin myself wating to click on people to find out their hp...
Wed, 18th Aug '04, 7:08pm
Sometimes when I have conversations with people I do the stat count and dice roll for various abilities like bluff, persuade etc... Other times when I get mad at people I think of which spell would be best to punish them with. Fireball? Maybe Isaac's Greater Missle Storm? :)
