View Full Version : The Nightingale Obsession
Aikanaro Tue, 27th Jul '04, 10:31am Alrighty, here is poor me, listening to many songs and reading many things which rave about the absolute great and wonderfulness of these birds and their call. Now, I have no idea what the hell they're all on about, and google searchs for it turn up at best, with music sites, and at worst, with porn.
So, does anyone know where I can find me a sound clip of a nightingale? I would like to know what the big deal is all about ;)
Apeman Tue, 27th Jul '04, 11:04am Found a dutch site. There is a windows media window just down, click the second the first on doesn't seem to work. In my opinion though it's not that special but maybe that's because it's ductch ;)

Bahir the Red Tue, 27th Jul '04, 12:02pm Here is a crazy idea; why dont you go outside to the forest and listen! (now that you know how it looks and all)
Aikanaro Tue, 27th Jul '04, 12:32pm Because I'm under the impression that there are no nightingales in Australia. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
And that site kept freezing up :(
Loerand Tue, 27th Jul '04, 12:53pm It didn't sound that special to me really. I've heard plenty of other birds singing just as beautiful as the N'gale....
nin. Tue, 27th Jul '04, 12:53pm Pretty sure there isnt any down here, there are some horribly annoying birds that wake me up in the morning tho....good hunting :p
BOC Tue, 27th Jul '04, 3:59pm Manfred Mann's Earth Band released a record called "Nightingales and bombers" in 1975, which includes a recording by an ornithologist during www2, who was recording nightigales singing while german bombers were passing overhead.
Apeman Tue, 27th Jul '04, 4:28pm Works fine for me, did you click play on 'Geluid2'?
Bahir the Red Tue, 27th Jul '04, 4:35pm Because I'm under the impression that there are no nightingales in Australia. I could be wrong, but I doubt it I could bring a pair to you... another animal invasion wouldnt hurt
Harbourboy Wed, 28th Jul '04, 2:51am There are also no nightingales in New Zealand.
Aikanaro Wed, 28th Jul '04, 8:35am Right, working now.
I really can't see what the big deal is all about. It's just ... a bird chirping. Nothing special in the slightest :-/
Apeman Wed, 28th Jul '04, 9:09am Well I'm no ornotoligest (Sp?) but when I think back at nightingales in books I remember them being chinese I'll try to dig up a chinese birdie.
SleepleSS Wed, 28th Jul '04, 11:22am Isn't it because of the Fable about Nightingale's?
You know with the chinese king who is very ill and then the ghost from his past visit him, tormenting his thoughts...
And then a Nightingale sings and the ghosts disappear and the king get's better and changes his life...
