It's good to be home to relax from my holiday. Today I'm making some healing balm out of calandula flowers and other secret ingredients. It is now in the process of sitting for 24 hours until I can heat it again and strain it for my final product. It's always so much faster when you do it in computer games.

I also went to a company that builds giant commercial sculptures out of styrofoam and asked if they could give me some scraps. Now I definately have enough to make something interesting with. I'll take a picture of it when its finished and post it in SPMP if it turns out nice.

Saw a guy busking this morning, playing a kick@ss blues-type version of Hendrix's Foxy Lady - completely changed the rhythm and all but in a good way. Made me wish I had a bit of money I could give him. Either that or more time to sit and listen.

No, not really. Think about it. I spent nearly two days tearing my hair out to make sure my house, pets, and friends would be as safe as humanly possible. That causes a huge adrenaline buildup. Then nothing happens, so there's no release of that adrenaline.
It's a fairly common reaction, so I'm not really sweating it. Trust me, I am grateful that I didn't get flattened in the end.

@Stephania - That's great for you, but for those who live in or near the actual path, there is still a lot of work to be done. Last time I was able to check in with my family down there, they still had no power and my father had no phone service. At least they have water. My stepmother's parents were trapped in their home due to large old trees coming down blocking all the roads. It took a 15-minute walk to get to their home from the nearest passable street, which is further than they could walk.

And this is all far inland where Charley had dropped from intensity 4 down to 2.

I've heard that they expect that full power restoration will take weeks.

So, for half an hour I frantically did my best to get the damned thing to work, re-attaching wires, flicking switches and swearing.... and finally, when she once again began to hum... I was overjoyed.

Not even a scrambled windows, see me happy.

I so need a proper desk to sit Jen on, not some stupid ramndom rickety thing on wheels that I had mmanaged to kick during the night so bad that the wires were all loosened :(

Tonight I happened to be witness to a transformer getting hit by lightning. It was showering bright blue sparks all around my truck. I just kinda sat there cowering and called 911. When I could finally move again (which was tricky since all the traffic lights had gotten zapped), I had to navigate many fallen branches/small trees. Guess I should be grateful there weren't any large trees down.
Gotta love Florida thunderstorms.

Actually, I heard on the news this morning that 2 people in Melbourne (IIRC) were seriously injured in a lightning strike.

Not surprised. Florida is the lightning capital of the world. Not the first time I've had a close call. It's normal in the summertime. Even everyday thunderstorms can get a bit wild.

Then there was the Darwin Award from a couple of years back about the guy and his girlfriend 'getting busy' on top of a hill during a thunderstorm, and the cop who was driving a brand new patrol car somewhere in outback Australia during a thunderstorm and was struck, the car was badly damaged and had all four tyres blown but he survived.

I'll find out tomorrow if my truck was damaged. The tires made it home, however.
The storm blew up after I arrived at the restaurant for dinner. *shrugs* Normal for this place, if you tried to plan your life around thunderstorms, you'd never be able to leave your house!

- Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz with 1 mb cache
- 200 Gb harddisk, (my partition magic app had some problems recognising the disk, increasing its size with 10, so I had a 2 Tera HDD :lol: )
- 2 Gig of RAM(buying 4 sets of 512MB is definitely cheaper than 2 sets of 1Gb)
A new mainboard, new PSU, new case (all black and shiny), 6 fans!!! (the thing is almost lifting up and flying home..)

And I just wanted to buy a new keyboard, because my cat puked over my old one :grin: .

Well, no major damage to my vehicle, although there are a couple tiny bubbles in the paint job. Shop said they could sand & touch up fairly cheaply. That's a small relief.

Went to play paintball war with the other university cheerleaders for charity yesterday. Still have ringing in my ears. Probably a good thing I was knocked out or i would of probably been facing homicide charges right now. :lol:

I used to be a cub scout. Fun days terrorizing local brownie gruops.

Sleepless, some relationships are not strong ties. Friendship is often stronger. So if she has a boyfriend just enjoy her as a good friend. Who knows what might happen later.

My little bro was a Beaver (AKA Junior Cub Scout) but he dropped it.

Tonight I'm going to forsake my computer for a few hours and travel down to the basement to work on my huge painting that has sat stagnant for more months than I care to mention. I just wish that I had a really long speaker wires so I could play some internet station music while I paint. The local radio stations don't really have a lot to offer.

You know, there are those days when I wake up and realize that someday I'm not going to wake up at all.

This is a boring day - posted too much in too little

Tomorrow is my last day of vacation before I go back to work. So many things to do tomorrow and I have to hold my breath hoping a cheque will come in the mail.

I painted for about four hours last night and at last my painting is becoming. I just have to decide what to do with the lower left-hand corner. What is there now does not make sense visually, logically, or spiritually. Maybe I'll go paint again now.

The cure for boredom is curiosity. ;)

Sigh, things are looking pretty bad around my office. I have had my doubts about the long term survivability of the firm for a couple of years now - It was obvious seeing our aging client base die/retire and close/sell their businesses with little replacement from newer/younger clients, but I really didn't think that the erosion of our client base would become so obvious this quickly.

The workload has been pretty light all year, I barely had anything to do before I left on vacation, and after coming back from three weeks off I find that there still isn't any work that needs doing. I am starting to think that it is probably a good idea to think about bringing my resume up to date.

I had to wear glasses at school. You'll get used to it eventually.

I've been wearing glasses or contact lenses for 30+ years. It's not a big deal, but it does take some time to adjust.

I wear contacts now, I prefer them far more than glasses.

I've had contacts for half a year now and I must say that I, too, prefer them over glasses.

I too wear contacts. Glasses when I am not doing anything, but contacts when I go out and such.

I've worn glasses since I was around 9 or 10. I tried contacts in my early twenties, but I couldn't wear them for a full work day; it got to be a pain in the butt changing to glasses at around 4:00, so I just stopped wearing the contacts, and went back to glasses.

Most people who start a business will just go to the acountant that a relative or acquaintance uses. I was watching "Law & Order" and I was surpised when I saw Ice-T playing the role of a cop considering that few years ago this guy was singing "Copkiller".

On the Simpsons last night, they watched a show called "Law & Order: Elevator Investigators Unit". Classic.

On TV last night... Nah, I turned it off after five minutes. :D

Read a little while ago that RIAA is winning most of the cases versus private persons, charging as much as 11.000 dollars per case. Can only be thankful I weren't born to USA... (Especially considering that they are still torturing people in Guantanamo.)

@BOC - have you not seen New Jack City either then? Ice was a cop in that and actually, a lot of his film roles tend to be in that vein as well. Actually, I think Law & Order SVU has the best ensemble cast of almost any show I've seen. And as for Ice playing cops, when he was offered his first cop role, he didn't want to do it because of the racist rep some have but decided to in order to give black kids a good police role model.

And I though it quite interesting that Richard Belzer has played that same character in at least 3 different series so far.

On a down note, I was finally told in the early hours of this morning that a girl who I've been in love with for 6 years now, and who has felt the same, is moving on. :cry: :wail:

Well, to be honest, therapists are used to people who cut themselves to brighten their day. When that becomes every day business for you, you stop being amazed at it eventually. The fact that you're joking about it, as if it is some trivial thing while it concerns your own wellbeing both physically and mentally, frightens me however.

Actually, I did not do it to brighten my day, i was honestly testing the kitchen knivves... and imho, there's no better way. All but two need sharpemning since a standard application of force did not break the skin.

Someone in a diffrent forum (bababling thread even) showed me this and it has been pissing me off for an hour now: 64 or 65? (http://www.blessa.com/64-equals-65.gif)

If you look closely at the before and after in that 64=65 thing, you see that they really don't fit together as perfectly as it seems. See the thicker black line between them? And also look at the shapes of the squares at the borders. They aren't perfect squares are they?

All that little bit of mismatch all over the borders adds up to the one square.

If you have some fine grid paper you can try it out and see for yourself.

Finally saw 28 Days Later a couple days ago and I loved Godspeed You Black Emperor's "East Hastings" at the start when Jim's wandering around. One of the most fitting and atmospheric songs I've heard in a film for ages.

That old 64=65 thing has been doing the rounds for years. I'm surprised you people (who are usually on the cutting edge of just about everything) haven't seen that before. I remember it being in one of my bumper puzzle and brainteaser books when I was a kid. Still, it's a great gag nonetheless.

It instantly made me want to see the matrix again... the music, the voices, they are simply the coolest in any movie. The setting, ditto.
And the story of pt. I is brilliance - although II was less cool despite the incredible action scenes IMO.
