No release date, this game might take several years to make, perhaps two I'd say. Information? Read the DA Forum Highlights, full of info :D

Certainly not before 2007, though more likely 2008 or later.

When I first heard about this game I heard it was going to be released in 2005, than 2006, and now 2007. My guess it will be a game talked about but never seen. Similar to BG3.

Unlike BG3, it's actually being worked on continuously, which you can read about in our Dragon Age forum highlights.

Bioware's never talked about a 2005 or 2006 release. They've probably not said anything about a 2007 release, either.

Wed, 5th Jul '06, 11:32pm
No, those dates came from poorly informed sites who made up dates that other poorly informed sites picked up, and many people believed those completely made up dates.

Don't believe anything you don't hear from a dev and devs insist they can't say much, if anything. They're probably going to tell people when they know, from what I've gathered.

I can tell you 2006 is impossible and 2007 unlikely, also from what I've gathered. I'd estimate it at 2008, early to mid and closer to mid than to early, but this is more of a guess, anyway. Wouldn't be surprised if they hadn't made it by 2009. I think it's good if they take time. I hate it when games get rushed.

I like Bioware, but still I think that they anounced this one to soon. I don't know, it gives me a bad taste in my mouth just reading about it. Still I hope it will come.

^ Yeah, I prefer the surprised. Still a polished game is better than a rush game. Besides, its their proprietary game, I'm sure they need to work out a lot of things first hand..backgrounds, history and all.

I was much more excited about this game before I learned that Bioware was being purchased by EA.

I hope it doesn't become just another nameless, faceless game in EA's endless pile of games. Really, this game is just about my last hope for a worthwhile CRPG.

No chance of Q1 '08 I'm afraid, last info from BioWare was unlikely for 2008 release. If it was imminent the previews would be going mad by now ;)

I have had it whit Bioware. I really thougth I read it on the bioware boards. Just let them choose between console or pc. developing cycles this long,... it is just,...

Well how to kill the gamesmarket for the pc.

If the cycle is to long, the engine will be outdated.

Honestly, I don't mind the delay so much, as long as it's because they are really taking their time to build an immersive and rich gaming environment. My *hope* is that this is the beginning of a really awesome new gaming series, to replace what I would have previously looked to the D&D CRPG genre for.

But again, I am worried that with EA at the helm, they'll write this off prematurely if it isn't an instant cash cow, and that cutting cornerns will be a much more regular part of production. I'm pretty disgusted with where the PC gaming industry has sunk, if it's not readily apparent.

Baldur's Gate FTW!

The plans for the game were always extremely ambitious, particuarly with what sounds like it will be a very complex battle system. We knew it was going to take a long time to make.

It will be a good game, absolutly, and not vaporware, but I think that expectations are so high it will fall short and be only as good as say NWN2. (Or as bad) It will not be of the greatness like BG2. I think they overreached. And after that I expect that singleplay rpg games for the pc are gone from Bioware for good.

If the cycle is to long, the engine will be outdated.

Yes, that's what happened to NWN I. It turned out to be a somewhat average game after all the years of speculation about what a great game it would be.

With Dragon Age, the screenshots that looked so fantastic 4 years ago are already starting to look dated in 2007. If they manage to get it out the door in 2009, then it may look like an antique by then. Now, even if the game is outdated in technology, it still may be a great game if the storyline and world-building aspects are well done. Maybe that's where the focus has been, or maybe they have just had problems with the new engine and we still may end up with a very mediocre game. It's really hard to say at this point because of all the problems they are obviously having getting this game finished.

I am going to but it anyway because rpg games are rare. if they were made in the same amount as shooters thngs would be different. We would get very short but intense games whit state of the art graphics. I prefer gameplay and long games. The witcher for instance, a dx9 game, the old aurora engine, but much gameplay and a long story.

returning to topic. I think Bioware has put the game on a low fire to get mass effect out in time. The reliable game magazine that I subscribe to still thinks Q1 2008. But they place a header saying: recent lies. So we wait until Bioware says it is done.

I agree with the gameplay part, but I'm tired of overly long games. I never finish them. I have too much of a life outside of gaming.

I am looking forward to the game but would really prefer shorter replayable games. Games with choices so that what you do matters or at least you feel that it matters.

To give an update on the information: q4 2008. (Check out the tread at our newsforum and at bioware themselves.)

Well, the Biowarians are still officially saying it's done when it's done and not a moment before, but there has been a lot of talk from EA Games and even some Bioware execs (not working on the project) that some time fiscal year 2008 is likely. I think their fiscal year started in April.

Merlanni

So we will hear in march 2009 if it is postponed. I would really like any gamemaker to shut up about its game until is it really nearly done. Well we cannot blame EA for this.

NEWS!! NEWS!! Or at least a promise of 'news'. There's been a lot of talk on the boards from the Devs of new news coming 'soon', but that's been going for about 3 months now, so people were beginning to get a little sceptical. Now, however, the main webpage for DA has been UPDATED. It's now a greyed out silhouette of the logo with some kind of 'splatter' looking something underneath. Under that, there's "More: Coming July 9, 2008"!! My guess is this is the beginning of the marketing campaign.

omg! There's a release for consoles as well?

Q1 2009 it says. I can wait... :D

I wouldn't trust any console anouncements just yet, especially anything saying Q1 2009. The devs have said repeatedly (and recently) that DA:O is just being made for the PC at the moment. They have fallen short of calling it an absolute PC exclusive, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was ported to a console at some point if sales go well, but they won't even start working on that until the PC version is in the box.

Taluntain
Tue, 29th Jul '08, 10:55pm
Actually, they've recently mentioned that it's going to be ported to consoles as well. No mention of the time frame on that, however.

Erod
Wed, 30th Jul '08, 5:08pm
Yeah, it was mentioned in the E3 press conference that it will come to consoles later. I just hope it will be a pure port, so that the PC version will not suffer from any console restrictions.

At least, if we do not have an new console platform by the time it is released

NOG (No Other Gods)

The official BioWare party line is that the console port hasn't even started yet and nothing will be changed for the PC version. I certainly hope that's true.

Erod
Sat, 30th Aug '08, 2:45am
According to an interview in GC '08, it will come to the PC in early 2009 and to consoles later that year. I have to say that the gameplay looks great and not dumbed down to a console level.

Tust to make sure everyone realizes this, this is the first time a real release date has been mentioned by BioWare for DA:O. Others have been vague estimates like "Early '09" or "Fall", but now we actually have a date!

I believe that this will be *the* release date (finally). It has been quite a long wait since E3 2004.

As suspected an other delay, just for the heck of it.

November 3 in North America.

November 6 for that annoying piece of landmass that sticks to Russia and the oil wells.

Other places need to pointed out on the map first.

The pre-ordering has started. So is the pre-ordering for the collectors edition. At least in the USA and a few places in the UK. The other, landmasses still wait for any official word as usual about the collectors edition.

I think this is the last delay.

Hmm, two weeks only. Probably some marketing stuff behind this small delay.

It might be to get the release date closer to the christmas season. I think there's still a strong belief that the big games will sell much more if they're released either for the christmas shopping time or at the beginning of summer.

Merlanni
Sun, 9th Aug '09, 9:40am
Which makes same sense. However when all developers launch their games in the same period it negates that effect. For lesser games, I think it holds true, but quality always surfaces.

It is possible EA is afraid that a release during the height of the financial crisis somehow "forces" people to pirate in stead of buy.

Some speculate it has to do with the playstation version having trouble. Makes sense since a lot of people think that the pc version was ready in March and EA forced a multi platform release.

Bioware said they needed time for spit and polish which frankly even less people buy. Such comments are standard answers to evade things. It might be possible a Major bug was found that required a lot of reprogramming. That can be the reason why the Mass Effect patch is 6 months overdue.(they said soon 6 months ago)

Is it an example for the stick and carrot system to get attention from the not fanatic fans away from other products. Even the most stupid mule understands at some point that the carrot is unreachable.

It better be a good carrot. If it is a normal carrot they deserve to go bust.

A little extra about pre ordering and the collectors edition. Goodies all around, even for the regular edition.

Well do we need a link to Bioware, not really but here it is anyway:http://daforums.bioware.com/viewtopic.html?topic=689474&forum=135

I'll go to gamescom tomorrow morning, and hope I'll have a chance to play test Dragon age (Diablo 3 and Mass Effect 2; and snatch some merchandise)

My shopping basket at Amazon.co.uk says that it will be released on October 23, 2009, so Merlanni's information appears to be correct.

The talk at Bioware's forum is first week November.

There are a few things with the collectors edition. To much speculation and no conclusive answers to post anything about it here. The basic thing is everybody outside the USA who wants the full thing with everything in and on it gets screwed on way or the other.

The official word on release date is now November 3rd, but that's changed before. Still, as close as it is, I doubt it'll change much unless something goes really wrong.
