View Full Version : Steal or not and what it takes Christian Tue, 13th Nov '01, 3:01pm First, to steal or not, because if you choose to steal its another abilities to give points in. I dont know about that could someone help :) thx Chris Headbanger Tue, 13th Nov '01, 4:06pm Stealing is something that you shouldn't do when you are good aligned. I see stealing as a good ability, but when you are a roleplayer, only steal when you are evil. There is enough money in the game to get a regular way so stealing is not necessary. Lokken Tue, 13th Nov '01, 4:08pm It requires Jan and a 1 or 2 thieving potions. And Jan is great for the evil party  steal it all... like me ;) Headbanger Wed, 14th Nov '01, 12:02pm Steal it all... but then indeed also play with an evil party. Hardcase Von Crudd Thu, 15th Nov '01, 12:49am Hey, stealing is the only way I know to get that Ring of Regeneration (without a bloodbath). That ring would have to be the most usefull item in my party and I'm not about to play a game without it. Anybody notice how easy it is to steal from the thieves guild? We cleaned those guys out - no problem! Wildfire Thu, 15th Nov '01, 1:09am Hardcase - there is another ring of regeneration in Spellhold. Lord Sarevok Thu, 15th Nov '01, 2:42am The only thing I ever found worth stealing was the Ring of Regeneration off of Ribald. And I don't see why you need to have a high ability score to do it; I simply quick saved and loaded until I stole it. creudzfeldt-jakob Thu, 15th Nov '01, 2:52am I'm not much for stealing, although I enjoy the occasional pickpocket, but stealing all your equipment for you is too easy. Imagine stealing a whole bunch of high-level scrolls and selling them back to a fence! IMHO, playing the game by using two potions of Master Thievery, and then stealing whatever you like for yourself is like shooting fish in a barrel. :flaming: Still, it's funny to imagine what would happen if you could steal from Ribald, Joluv, and Deidre. Imagine stealing the Robe of Vecna and the Girdle Hill Giant Strength at the start!! [This message has been edited by creudzfeldt-jakob (edited November 15, 2001).] Demonater351 Thu, 15th Nov '01, 4:16am Here's my philosophy on stealing: I only steal from other thieves. Really no need to steal equipment, if you manage your money, there should be plenty of it to buy everything you need. The Grim Ripper Thu, 15th Nov '01, 8:44am I agree with demonater. Ragusa Thu, 15th Nov '01, 10:31am With high chr and a good rep an good aligned party can go shopping cheaply and sell for a good price (best is rep 20 & chr-20) - I'm at day 25 now (just before doing planar prison, the liches, twisted rune and the Bohdi-fight) and I have about 110.000 gp. The only thing my good aligned thief thends to steal is stuff he uses up anyway: Spell scrolls for learning, however, I only used this ability at the start to gather a little xp, and I left my pally at the front door out of sight then ;) - when he leads the shopping I never steal :holy: I always try to sell all the valuable loot I can find (anything +1 or better and katanas and armors better than platemail). I like to be wealthy. This time I have an evil party and we steal because "we're bad boyz an' that's what we do". My thief is a klepto and will walk a mile to steal pennies from a beggar. He's a nasty little twerp. I find that if you get caught pickpocketing somebody you should talk to them before they get angry (fast mouse work required here). Sometimes they forget to get angry after you talk to them. I guess this is related to the "fake-talk" strategy. Ragusa Fri, 16th Nov '01, 9:15am hmm, fast-talk "stragegy" - hmm, have you never felt that it is somehow cheesy, when there is a guy who, as you know only too well, *should be* hostile is not just because you talked fast ??! Come on ! I'd rather say this is not a strategy but an exploit. Naer Dhal Fri, 16th Nov '01, 9:26am Stealing is it, well I do that, my party is TN and up, but I usually only steal from the thieves, cuz ummm how can they complain...hehehe...anyways I also donate to the churches even if I have a rep at 20, cuz that makes me feel a little better about the stealing :)..Besides here's a tip, when you do the Maevar steal the whatever from the church of Talos quest, if you pickpocket her, well you get 20000 EXP, if you dont and just take it from the chest, well you figure it out Arabwel Fri, 16th Nov '01, 1:15pm I steal occasionally, when I feel like it; my character's philosophy is that she does things to benefit herself, and if it can be done doing good, then all the better. So she steals when she feels like it. And I, personally, like thieving characters. She has 130 in Pickpocketing, and the Gloves of Pickpocketing.. Ara (Thief, con, whatever she feels like doing... even in the realms of Darth Real LIfe...) corbin Fri, 16th Nov '01, 1:33pm stealings ok if your neutreal. I'm lawful neautrial and i get my klept desires all out there in the game. Nivek The Mad Fri, 16th Nov '01, 7:19pm I'm running a Chaotic Neutral Assassin. He sucks at pickpocketing, but his move silently and traps abilities are peerless. My crew has a rep of 17 presently. Would stealing stuff affect our rep? I'd really like to keep that pumped up. Naer Dhal Fri, 16th Nov '01, 7:30pm Nivek yes and no...if you get caught and kill the one you tried to steal from, it could effect your rep..so basicly if you wanna steal, dont get caught |
