View Full Version : How many "True Sight"?
Thorr Tue, 26th Jun '01, 6:39am I the sewers, in the northeast corner, there is a group of bandits or something, who want 1000 gp to let me pass. I wanted to put Yoshimo behind their mages, for a quick backstab when the battle begin, but one of then was casting True Sight again and again. After about 10 times, I give up and atacked with the rest of party. How many True Sight's has he?
And another question: when a thief (Yoshimo for me) is backstabing someone, he leaves shadow? He wear cloak of non-detection.
TIN_MAN Tue, 26th Jun '01, 8:46am The cloak of non-detection protects you from divination spells only(true sight excluded). If...you backstab someone your presence will be known by your enemies. Just think about it, Yoshimo is a plain thief, he has no magical abilities like invisibility or else.
The other thing: True sight.
Before asking any questions please read the spell description carefully.
It says that true sight or true seeing last for one turn(10 rounds)
The spell dispels all illusions in every round until the duration runs out, so 10 times. I think I cleared things out for you.
If you let Yoshimo drink an oil of speed and cast strength of one at him he surely will finish that wizzard before he can cast true sight.
Thorr Tue, 26th Jun '01, 9:28am I got it, thx.
About backstabing, even if I use ring of invisibility or a potion, when I backstab my thief is revealed? I just discovered this ability, because 5x damage of Yoshimo is nice, but I am novice ...
Did Short Sword of Backstabing extra damage in this sort of atack (I mean better than Celestial Fury)?
Maldir Tue, 26th Jun '01, 9:58am In most RPGs, spells like invisibility are negated when you attack; primarily it's a matter of game balance as otherwise parties would go around continually invisible and be almost undefeatable (think about the duration of invisibility spells). There are some high-level spells which allow you to stay invisible after an attack (can't remember if BG has any).
As for backstab, while you might be able to sneak up behind someone without them noticing you, they'll probably notice you after you stick the knife in them, and shout out so their fellows turn and spot you. Now Silent Kill - that would be an interesting skill to have.
Ragusa Tue, 26th Jun '01, 10:18am Yes, attacking after using a poition will negate the invisiblity. Attacking invisible gives you some great initiative & THACO boni iirc. When you are under the spell improved invisibility it takes longer till you are visible again, so you can attack several times iirc.
Blackthorne TA Tue, 26th Jun '01, 4:22pm For me, Valygar was immune to True Sight while wearing the Cloak of Non-detection when he was stealthed.
ayecapitan Wed, 27th Jun '01, 3:45am Methinks by 3E sneak attack negates enemies' dex armor class bonus.

Extremist Wed, 27th Jun '01, 7:34am 1. Cloak of non-detection works everywhere, not just there.
2. That party is not very hard to nail even with low level party. Just cast Silence spell.
Ragusa Wed, 27th Jun '01, 8:41am my hint: cast protection from fear on your party and chaos and spook on your enemies (followed by insect plague) and rely on ranged weapons then ... relatively easy fight then.

TIN_MAN Wed, 27th Jun '01, 8:46am That's right Ragusa!
With a successful cast of insect plague, this party is a piece of cake.
But they aren't that though anyway.
Thorr Wed, 27th Jun '01, 11:08am The fight WAS a piece of cake... My main caracter is a cavalier, and with Carsomyr is deadly. The problem was that I wanted to backstab one mage and it was not posible, because of the True sight.
Extremist Wed, 27th Jun '01, 5:02pm Oh yeah. Sure.
I'm telling about low level party. Insect Plague is priest spell level 5. Silence spell you get form sword called Namarra+2 very early in the game (kill the Crypt King in one of Graveyard crypts). And Carsomyr? Dear Lord - you got it out of Athkatla then returned!?
