Neverwinter Vault has interviewed "dragonsong", whose application LETO has secured him a place in Neverwinter Vault's Hall of Fame. Here are a couple of his answers:
Your program, "LETO", which has over 100 000 downloads has just been inducted into our Hall of Fame. Could you tell our readers what it does and how much it's progressed from its original release till now?
On the surface, Leto is a simple character editor, and that's all it started out as. Update your description, change your Strength, swap out a Feat you picked accidentally at some level - and I won't deny we get a lot of traffic on our forums from the uber / tweaker crowd. But the Leto of two years ago has expanded into so many areas that it's altogether become "Project Leto" rather than just a single application or use.
The Advanced Editor mode in Leto lets you edit GFFs at the low-level; and that means editing more than just BICs. (Module.ifo, for instance.) There's a separate app called SpeakEasy that edits DLGs (dialog resources) externally from the Toolset. A recent addition, Nwn2Xml, can convert two-way between GFF/ERF and XML. And my pièce de résistance: the Moneo / NWNX-Leto / LetoScript suite, a system for making scripted changes to files, that opens up hitherto unexplored possibilities for persistent worlds.
Are there any lessons you've learnt that you want to share with the community?
Dedication is key. It takes a lot of patience to keep working on something even when there's so much left to do, or you're bored with it, or you're angry with it, or you're not sure what to do with it. But if you stick with it, for more than just a few weeks, you can start looking back at your accomplishments, and it works as a kind of momentum to keep pushing you forward.
