Action Trip has interviewed Ferret Baudouin, Obsidian's Lead Designer for Neverwinter Nights 2. Here's an excerpt:

Action Trip: First of all, we would like to hear some details about the game's story.

Ferret Baudoin, Lead Designer: The story takes place a few years after the events of Hordes of the Underdark and centers on the city of Neverwinter and its surrounding regions. Early in the story the protagonist is charged with unearthing the secret of a mysterious artifact, and that quest attracts a great deal of unwanted attention. But an adventurer's life was never supposed to be easy.

Neverwinter Nights 2 starts off as a simple tale of adventure. But the elements of the story build upon themselves until the player finds themselves in the eye of the hurricane. We're trying to make the world feel alive, and it evolves with the story. The player isn't a passive bystander in this, and at many stages of the game the player's choices can have real ramifications.

Being a nitpick that I am...
I hear the "eye of the Hurricane" is the quietest and the tranquil part of the storm.
Hehehe...

It sounds pretty much the same as the original NWN OC or SoU. For God's sake, are they all getting plot ideas from the same batch of fortune cookies?

I guess it was too much to hope for an original plot idea. *sigh*

Of course it does. But it's because everybody wants "originality" and these days that means no more chosen ones and no more fate. But they don't realise that is what makes a good and especially epic story. Epic has written fate all over it. A generic person is in no way epic. Only fated ones are of epic proportions, or at least in such a manner it is acceptable. If you give a nonfated one that kind of epicness, it just becomes lame. So away with originality, we want Charname back :D (or at least his clone)
