I just finished the game two hours ago, for my first time and I was wondering, what was your least used item in the game?
I know there was a poll on this a couple of weeks ago, but there are so many things I didn't use, that weren't a choise in the poll!
For instance: Scroll of protection!
Never used any of them! Partly (sp?) because I had 3 int., so I couldn't use them, but I never gave them to Jaheira or Keldorn or any other for that matter!
Another thing were those stupid potions!
I used only Healing and hasting and cure poison!
I never used any of the grant strenght (Storm , hill giant etc.)
O, wait, I used the potions that give you more intelligence against those pesky Mindflayers and I used those potions for thiefs, giving them better lock picks etc.
Never used firebreath, stoneform, unvisability, invincability (AC 0, +5 saving throws), magic block, magic protection etc etc.

So, what are your least used items in the game?

There were several (but I can't remember specific names):

Many of the scrolls of protection as you said (mainly 'cause I keep forgetting I have them)
That wand that gives a random result (never had the nerve)
That rod thing that can reduce your charisma if you use it (I'm ugly enough as it is)
My Rabbit familiar (although Ragusa's recipe for stew was nice)
All the darts
The Helm of infravision
nearly all of the +1 weapons
Any wand that wasn't fire or monster summoning

Actually this is looking a lot like Tal's questionnaire list so I'll stop. The thing with the wands is because fear and paralyse and those types never seemed to work on any tough enemy and weren't needed on weak ones. I also disliked the lightening wand as I could never get the blasted thing to fire (don't know why bug or something).

Just thought of a controversial one - The strongholds. So far (Cleric, Sorcerer & Barbarian), they all seem to cost more money and bother than they are worth.

I also couldn't fire the blasted rod!
I sometimes fired five charges, but nothing happened.
That wand of wonders was cool! I used it twice, once on a beholder, which petrified and once on a lich, but instead it grounded my mage to the spot...
Was cool though...

I used no rods, wands, protection scrolls(excepted protection from magic against Kangaxx), no missile projectiles(after I bought Tashedorn's short bow in Trademeet and gave it to Mazzy)

I haven't finished the game yet :( , but I can say that I'll never use or have used any halberd or spear in the game. There are enough other weapon classes in the game, which have great weapons that can be found.

I almost never used any strenght, thieving or defensive potion. I just forgot about them in the heat of the battle. The other potions had their uses.

I also never found a use for the +3 and +5 leather armors. I already had found better when I finally reached those. Maybe it has something to do with the classes I play. (never use priest classes, except for Viconia.)

Other useless items and game aspects:
Ring of Energy
Amulet of Missiles
Ring of charm Animal
Darts
The numerous normal and +1 weapons (except the katana's)
The numerous merchants who sell crap.
Boots of the North
Boots of Grounding
Most of the shields (+sword and shield style)
The magic bastard swords (there are very few)

Igneous, are you in the Underdark or not yet? There is one very potent spear sold by a merchant there: Spear of Withering +4 plus 4 poison damage. Great for spell disrupting over the Improved Mantle and Stoneskin.

The Impaler is another great spear, it delivers +10 piercing damage with each successful hit.

Doesn't the Spear of Withering inflict damage on the wielder too? (albeit, minimal...)

There are also some nice halberds, good enough to rival any two-handed sword, except, maybe the Carsomyr.

I think it does 3 hp damage to anyone who hits...
But that's just too many good spears. There is one cool in the tombs beneath the graveyard. +2, +2 electrical damage if I'm not mistaken, good for beginners...
I also found that stupid elven armor, on which I've been waiting the whole game, useless. It give you the ability to cast spells and still wear it... but Aerie couldn't use it, because she had other magical equipment, that was far more important (two rings of wizardry and a magical shield, a cloak of the sewers and an amulet which gives an extra second level spell. And Nalia had the cloak of the good Archmagi, which gives a better armor class, + 5% magic resistance along with some other stuff I believe...

I rarely use potions either. No spears, no staffs (except the staff mace). I have stocked up on potions of explosions though, and had everyone in my party throw one. This was overkill to say the least. I use the wand of heavens sometimes. I couldn't get the lightning wand to work either. I use the wand of fear on the bandits and they almost all go yellow. Otherwise I don't use it. I don't use a whole lot of things, but of course I continue to lug them all around. Well, you never know when...
