View Full Version : Where do I find the "Staff of the Magi"? [GoodFellaZ] Voodoo Daddy Sat, 12th Jan '02, 3:34pm simple question I suppose. Someone help me please, cus I have heard that it great when you are playing a mage. Taluntain Sat, 12th Jan '02, 3:54pm You heard right. :D You can get it by doing the Twisted Rune questlet. You need to carry a rogue stone with you to the Bridge District, then find a door that the stone will open (x 1800 y 3345). Step in and prepare for a very tough fight, unless you're already powerful. Lord Sarevok Sat, 12th Jan '02, 10:13pm Among the enemies there are a vampire, lich, beholder, and another very powerful mage which carries the staff. I managed to pull this off with only my fighter/mage and yoshimo. Have a theif set as many traps as possible in the entry room before the main fighting area, if you set enough, they should kill the lich before he can even do anything to you, making this fight a lot easier. Don't expect to live long if you decide to fight them all at once, try luring them one at a time. You'll need some kind of protection from beholder rays too, shield of balduran works great here if you have the bonus merchants installed, if not the cloak of mirroring is just as good but you'll have to wait until after getting out of the underdark for it. After you kill all of them expect the female mage, just wait for her protections to wear off then charge in. The staff of the magi she wields gives her permanent invisibilty which reactivates every round so if you plan on targeting her with spells you'll need to cast true sight or true seeing. I suggest buffing up one character with all of the protections spells, and leave the rest behind with missle weapons to help out. Earl Grey Sun, 13th Jan '02, 2:00am Hey, Lord Sarevok! You might want to put a spoiler warning on posts like that. Sure, the game is not new anymore but still... Laksol Sun, 13th Jan '02, 5:50am spoiler: . . . . . . Be warned, the door is heavy-trapped.:D Extremist Sun, 13th Jan '02, 3:42pm First, you don't need Bonus Merchants. Second, I've never dealt those with traps. You have nice two Scrolls of Magic Resistance to buy at Adventurer's Mart. To nail the Beholder, you can buy some Scrolls of Spell Turning, or Scrolls of protection from Electricity. The female mage is totally easy and irrelevant - cast Protection from Evil on whole party and that mage will be killed by her own summon (of course - that's because of a bugged Staff of the Magi). And also, have I told you already that I dealt those in Chapter 2, WITHOUT BONUS MERCHANTS? It wasn't easy, but it wasn't impossible. Yes, I dealt them BEFORE Kangaxx. I've needed Staff of Magi to kill that one because I sold Carsomyr and killed Keldorn. [This message has been edited by Extremist (edited January 13, 2002).] Ramses Sun, 13th Jan '02, 3:54pm The Paradox. If you can beat the twisted Rune you don't need the staff to complete the game. Lord Sarevok Sun, 13th Jan '02, 5:50pm Extremist, I love how you twist words. I never said you needed the Shield of Balduran to beat them, you could just have easily used a scroll of protection from magic, but I used both against Kangaxx earlier. Had to have a protected guy blocking the bridge or he would've ran around like a spastic and I'd never be able to catch him... Only reason I bought a bonus merchant item was because they included it in the ToB patch and I felt I was at a great disadvatage with only 2 people in my party of low level... StressedE Sun, 13th Jan '02, 8:25pm One question doh. The beholder killed me a few times even with 100% magical imunity. How come? Lord Sarevok Sun, 13th Jan '02, 10:58pm Well, maybe what he was using didn't fall under the catagory of "Magical Energy". That's why items like Scrolls of Protection from Magic and Cloak of Mirroring are so darn useful here. Viking Mon, 14th Jan '02, 11:26am I've just picked the staff up in chapter six. Not too hard at that point when your party is pretty well beefed up. You just know my solo sorcerer will have a go in chapter 2 now though don't you... With the staff, even Aerie kills liches for fun on her own. We set her the test to remain the party the miserable winger, but she came through with flying colours. Damn. She is really one of the best reasons to turn your sound down. I can live with Anomen, he makes me laugh coz he's so OTT, but Aerie? Puny lich killer. Now we have to find another way to lose her wihout Minsk going off the head! [GoodFellaZ] Voodoo Daddy Tue, 15th Jan '02, 10:36am hehe, thanks for the solutions... Though it wasn´t very hard to beet the hel.. out of the beholder, the vampire abd so on. The problem was originally that I had already killed Irenicus and had to use a little coding in the console in order to go to the bridge district. I just had to get that staff! Ps. how do you use spell-trap Taluntain Tue, 15th Jan '02, 11:31am Just click on its icon in the "bag department". You have to click on the bag icon for the character that has the staff. Inside that, you'll see an icon for Spell-Trap. Just click it. |
