Are they planning on releasing a demo in the future?

I don't think there are immediate plans to release a demo. Obsidian didn't want to use the development time for this, in order to stay focused on fine tuning the core game. Perhaps this is something they'll look at making available at some point in the future, but I haven't seen any official comment on that.

No demo is planned for the foreseeable future as far as I know.
