View Full Version : bug that renders game unplayable
Bombur Wed, 8th Nov '06, 1:08am I'm stuck in the mountain pass where you meet Casavir -- world map won't trigger because. Checked the official website, and there is currently no working patch for it. Worse, this is apparently just the first time of many that this kind problem will arise, if the experiences of others are any indication. The advice that seems to have the best shot at fixing the problem? Always have your main character selected before cutscenes. Great. And I'm supposed to know a cutscene is coming because I'm psychic? Nice work Obsidian.
Barmy Army Wed, 8th Nov '06, 7:56am I don't know why companies don't invest more in beta testers instead of half-assing it and releasing a game full of bugs.
Sir Fink Wed, 8th Nov '06, 8:44am I'm pretty far into it and have hit a point where the game crashes. Reload and try again -- crash. Again -- crash. I search the forums to find a solution and all I find is dozens of others who hit the exact same bug! No solution. I guess I'll put the game on the back burner until it gets patched (again).
Taluntain Wed, 8th Nov '06, 12:03pm When one of the game devs himself suggests to wait a few months for the first few patches to fix the most glaring bugs before playing the game, I'm kinda inclined to take his advice. Because, really, my time is too valuable for me to beta test games. While I was still in my teens and didn't have anything particularly better to do with my time, ok, but now? Forget it.
Harbourboy Wed, 8th Nov '06, 5:17pm Now I am glad that I am not wealthy enough to buy new PCs and games as soon as they come out. It seems that I have been unwittingly sparing myself lots of frustration.
Blackthorne TA Wed, 8th Nov '06, 5:48pm I think you're just seeing more frustration because that's what people post about. I've been having lots of fun and haven't (yet) run into anything frustrating.
Starborn Thu, 9th Nov '06, 7:46pm I must agree with Taluntain. I have been looking forward to NWN-2, but will not be buying it to play Beta Tester. Once I find that the game has been patched enough to solve most of the problems, I will go ahead and buy the game, but not before.
I have already made two ERRORS this year in game selection. "Heroes of M&M 5", disappointing but playable, and "Mage Knight Apocalypse", VERY disappointing and barely playable. My fault on MKA, as I bought the game before seeing any reviews, which broke my longstanding rule, so never again!!!!!!!
Harbourboy Thu, 9th Nov '06, 7:53pm I too will wait until I hear that the major bugs have been fixed and patched before I shell out my hard earned cash for it.
catbert Thu, 9th Nov '06, 8:15pm "Heroes of M&M 5", disappointing but playableWhat disappointed you in HoMMV? As far as sequels that improve on the original go, that one delivered, to me at least.
Marceror Thu, 9th Nov '06, 8:23pm Well, and based on what I've read about patch 1.02, you really want to wait until the user community has thoroughly beta tested the patches before you download those too! I'll be waiting to get patch 1.02, as I haven't encountered any gaming stopping bugs thus far.
/knocks on wood.
omnigodly Thu, 9th Nov '06, 10:09pm The problems with the game are pretty glaring, but they haven't detracted entirely from the fun. Things like quests ignoring the fact that certain party members... aren't in your party (or never have been), members continuing to advance their story line and speak to you as if you've actually had them IN your party, etc. etc. But this stuff doesn't stop me from continuing the game. Lack of information slows me down sometimes, but I make up for it by cheating a little bit. A few million gold here and there, not a big deal :p .
