How about a "New Generation" approach, wherein you control the son/daughter of the protagonist and the "romance interest" and with all new NPC's? If you're "importing" your character, the issue on who the mom/dad is will be solved.

On the other hand, if you're creating a New character, you can have a "Ogre Battle approach" and answer some questions which will then determine on who the mother (if male PC is created). Answers pertaining to good point Aerie as the mom, "balanced" views pointing to Jaheira and "bad" opinions point to Viconia.

Unlike the BG2 series, we can probably let the player create 3 PCs (protagonist included) and space for 3 NPC's.

Just my two cents. What do you think? :)

I am tired of talking about this now.

It's going to be a prequel. Take that for good or ill, but that's what they've announced.

That said, a Q+A session wouldn't be a bad way to do it, if it was going to be a sequal. However, Jaheira was really more Neutral Good then TN, and what happens if Viconia was redeemed? Much easier probably to just ask what Mom's name was.

The only problem with these sort of character generation systems is that if they do more then provide a suggestion, ala Elder Scrolls: Arena, people will be justifiably mad about not getting the results they wanted, not understanding the question, argueing what an answer should have really meant, etc.

Hmmm. A prequel? Are we talking about the young life of Gorion, the meeting of PC1's mother and Bhaal, or what?

Viconia changes her alignment to Neutral if you follow the right dialogue path. Jaheira is officially True Neutral but show me a better example of a mature goodie behaviour without getting too exalted. Then there goes the Bhaalspawn's alignment and the question what they saw in each other with the romance interest. While you can be a CE necromancer and romance Aerie in the game, it's obviously not so obvious on the roleplaying side. All the balance talk wouldn't make Jaheira as comfortable with an evil lover as with a goodie. Wasn't Khalid NG? Finally, Viconia may be swayed from the evil path by good example, which suggests she might be attracted to good guys for whatever strange reason. It's all so complex... Guess they could ask names and if you haven't played BG2, they could ask questions to determine the parentage, like if you were Aerie's child from ToB or if you had been adopted by the male PC and Anomen. :p :D

Sarevok• : That's fine. Then don't post.

Nice idea though. It's a good way of continuing the saga. Same thing though: Child of god.

i think that it would be more interesting to play as young gorion...they dont elaborate much on his story throughout the first 2 games so there would be lots of possiblity there, with only a few things that you had to do.

Possibly... there are quite a few hints about some of his exploits - imoen speaks of links with the harpers (and Jaheira mentions "mutual acquaintances) and seeing him meet Blackstaff, iirc, Firkraag talks of how he was humiliated by him and some harpers, etc.
Really, I think the scene is set for a prequel with Gorion playing a major importance in the campaign. Maybe as a key party member, or a powerful NPC ally - like drizzt, maybe, but not just for one fight.
