Graphics cards and computers are continually getting better and in order to take advantage of them the technological and art resources to make great games increase dramatically. That's the short and sweet answer. Back in the days of early Ultimas you could have a one man show, now it's about having a crack team of experts in design, art, and programming. And since we don't live on nuts and berries, game development costs go up.

Actually, I think there are so few stickies for just the opposite reasons. There are so many ideas of merit out there that our stickies would spiral out of control. Sticky bloat annoys me, and I think FAQs and things which help the community at large are prime targets for getting stuck at the top of the board.

Now if they also put some more resources/increase of resources in the not graphical parts of the games, that would be even better. Crpgs are one of the game types where graphics are one of the minor concerns.

Agreed: I've always wanted a complex text-only system "understanding" normal English as typed from the keyboard. I still appreciate the wonderful graphics they have put in several cRPGs. I especially love fog in the morning. Especially in a port. Guess most of the job is done if the graphics make you let your imagination lose and immerse in the atmosphere.

Yeah, but alot of the work goes not on immersion, but on even more fireworkish spell effects. Each new game, it seems, needs to radiate more light from your comp screen than the others per spell cast. Even a lowly cantrip already has half a screen worth of luminating effects. Come on, what about making magic more mystical and more discrete?

I've always wanted a complex text-only system "understanding" normal English as typed from the keyboard.Which would be a thousand times more easily done if the developer could assume that the user was capable of typing normal English. ;) Given the generally much better level of language usage here, I'd still hate to have to design a system that understood what some posters leave on these boards.
