Online connection to play Kingmaker (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=415548&post=3440461&forum=86&highlight=)

Would someone please explane to me why I must be connected to BioWare to play KingMaker?

Certainly! Although we have explained it many times already, if you would just try a search of this forum. In order to get the Premium Modules to market in a timely and cost-effective manner, we chose to leverage the existing NWN CD Key system for the authentication process. Selecting any other method would have taken too long to impliment or cost too much, making the Premium modules cost more than their current prices.

Quote: My connection shows that I download over 50K of information each time I start the game..........Just what information are you guys getting from my computer each time I log on???

Your CD Key. We are checking to see if the CD Key that you used to purchase the Premium modules is the one that you are using to play them.

Quote: I bought the module but can't play without being connected.

Correct, just like it clearly states in the Requirements of each module.

Quote: If I wanted to do that, I would have bought Everquest.

Everquest has monthly fees and you play on their computer systems. NWN has no monthly fee and you play on your own computer.

Quote: I would like to see this fixed.

There is nothing to fix. It is working as intended and as advertized.

Quote: PS.... 50 K is a lot of info being sent to just "verify" my module.......
If you say so. http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Quote: After all, I have to drop my firewall

You should never "drop" your firewall for any program. That is not how you use or configure a firewall. You should follow your firewall's instructions to grant access to the internet for nwmain.exe, just like you would have for NWN multiplayer.

Quote: and allow BioWare access to my system.....

We are not accessing your system, we are asking your copy of NWN for the CD Keys that you have. This is exactly the same as how NWN multiplayer has worked for the past 2 and a half years.

Quote: I don't like that.

Duly noted.

Quote: Premium Module or Premium Sypware? Come on guys...............

Premium Module. Our privacy policy is linked on these forums and the BioWare web sites, and as it clearly states, we are doing nothing out of the ordinary and nothing that NWN multiplay hasn't been doing for the past 2 and a half years.
