I really don't know what to say. I have never heard of anything even close to what you are describing. I have seen these forums under all manner of video card and manufacturer and driver version and have never seen nor heard of anyone complaining of one company's "text rendering" over anothers.

Can you post up some low-to-no compression screen shots of what you are seeing, somewhere?

Argh...cloaks!! (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=495826&post=4300168&forum=86&highlight=)
Hello Magius!

Yep, the cloaks for prety much all of the "old" modules, like Infinite Dungoens or Pirates of the Sword Coast for example, will have the cloacks with the old pictures as you describe. It is basically because each of the modules was created with their own items base 2da that doesn't change despite what the CEP or DLA might do.

Currently, there is not a planned fix for this. It might happen some day down the road, but for right now, it won't be changing. Sorry.

We definately do. We take all suggestions by our community seriously. We don't always do what an individual poster or group suggest as we weigh the suggestions, the alternatives and make careful choices, but we do alwaqys listen. http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Neverwinter Nights: Infinite Dungeons (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=482360&post=4300887&forum=86&highlight=)
Ok, this needs to be left behind and we need to move on now. Silverstar and I have exchanged some very friendly PMs and I think he understands BioWare's position and we understand his.

We do not allow fighting or insults (the foolish comment was not needed) on these boards as they break the rules of conduct. So please, let this matter drop and move on. If I see anyone else insulting Silverstar or any poster on this matter, I will step in and prevent fighting.

Now move on and discuss Infinite Dungeons please. http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

NWN1.68, Cloaks, and CEPv1 (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=495033&post=4300389&forum=83&highlight=)
Oh boy, that bodes well for releasing 1.69 with a lot of new content...

I suggest starting to integrate around beta #1, because otherwise it's going to months of problems http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Please keep it civil.

More: <hr />I know that Bioware when out and started working with the DLA group, why can't they also talk to and work a bit with the CEP group? Look and see what the CEP team has put together, and talk to them.<hr />No, never gonna happen.

CEP

a) is community created content, not official game content.

b) Is a collection of content from thousands of sources. This makes it not compatible with our legal standards in regards to copyright and ownership documentation.

CEP is unable to provide a guarantee that every piece of content has been submitted to CEP by the orginial author and does not contain any material (textures, geometry, etc) not belonging to that author. In fact, CEP contains several pieces of content that have been taken from other games, and we have a zero tolerance policy against that.

c) has a much lower quality standard for the inclusion of content and performance.

d) contains plenty of content that would never be approved by the license holder for violating the D&D IP (be it certain types of siege engines, monsters, etc). One big reason why you never WANT CEP to become official content, because that would remove a lot of the cool stuff in there.

e) has not and would not pass official QA and does not support all released languages for the game.

DLA

a) has been subcontracted by BioWare to create this content, making the content official BioWare game content owned by BioWare.

b) is able to supply proof of creation and ownership of every single piece of work (every texture, every model, etc.) in their content. Every piece of work has been created from scratch.

c) has been following our content creation and implementation standards closely. They had several of their content creators become Bioware employees over the last year, certifying that the quality of their content is more than up to the standards required for inclusion in NWN.

d) has had their content approved for official inclusion in the game by BioWare, Atari and WotC.

e) has been tested and verified by our QA, Atari QA and translated to go into an official patch.

For the matters of this discussion, DLA is BioWare.

This is not meant to diminish the work the people at the CEP team have been doing - they are doing a very complicated job of merging all that content and getting it to work nicely together, but these groundrules have been around forever, won't change and it is essential for people to understand them when they use CEP. See the sticky on top of this forum for details.

Why is this forum here? (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=495861&post=4300817&forum=83&highlight=)
It is possible to update CEP to use the new cloaks, it just takes time. The current bandaid might upset a few people but is surely only a temporary solution.

If you absolutely can't wait, there are several solutions for the problem already on the Vault, created by third parties.

As for the poster questioning why the forum is here - it's here because we (BioWare) think there is value to having a forum for the most popular hakpak here and we continue to think so.

When the forum was created, there were no strings like 'if you don't update your hakpak within 24 hours of patch release, we take away the forum' attached. Whoever has such expectations is wrong.

CEP is a community effort and to make demands that they update their massive content pack immediately is wated breath. They are volunteers and don't respond well to demands.

More: <hr />Sorry, but in spite of the protests, by having this forum be part of the official BW forums, there is a clear implication that this material will work with official BW material.<hr />No. I am a BioWarian and I just gave you an official answer to your question of why that forum is here.

No need to imply anything, this is the law of the land. No further interpretation needed, nothing more to discuss on that topic.

<hr />The simple fact is the BW has singled out one particular Hak to hold ofrth as a standard, and unfortunately those people are now dictating to both BW and the community what kinds of content are going to be available and what kinds aren't.<hr />The simple fact is explained in Jay's sticky at the top of this forum and I urge you to read it carefully.

CEP IS the most popular hakpak out there, but we never decided to make it a standard. The community makes that decision, and if the community disagrees with the decision of the CEP team, they can easily create their own patches to change that situation.

I am not going to decide whether or not there was enough time to make CEP 1.53 compatible with the cloaks, because frankly, these people are working on their free time on something for the community and they can dedicate as much free time as they have and wish to that effort. If they decide to rather ensure CEP 2.0 is compatible, it is their call to make, not ours and not anybody elses, because ultimately, they put their time and effort into this.

<hr />Regardless, if BW wants to let amateurs run the show, that's their decision. It's just good to know, so I know where to spend my money in the future.<hr />The point of the NWN toolset and custom content was all along to allow amateurs to run their own show, err games. And no you don't have to spend any money on 'amateur' stuff, because CEP is free!

<hr />This, of course, is the danger inherint in giving fan-created materials official sanction. You send a message to customers that there will be "reasonable efforts" made to ensure compatibility, and not blanket statements that it's "best" for the community not to have things be made compatible.<hr />No we aren't sending that message, you are making that up. In fact, here are just a few posts that clearly define the message we are sending in regards to CEP:

Anyhow, the 'I'm a paying customer, I'm threatening to not buy from you anymore if you don't agree with my opinion' show is old and frankly, pretty dull, because everyone has to be a paying customer in order to post on this forum and if I got a cookie for everyone who has threatened to leave because the game, forum or world doesn't evolve around their vision for it, I would have gained a lot more than the 20 pounds I already added since starting to work here http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_razz.gif

If you don't like their work, well, voice it or make suggestions how to fix it and if they don't respond to you, just go and fix it yourself, after all, it's easy and just a red herring, right? But don't start this meta debates about what the CEP team has to do because we gave them a forum, because the forum has nothing to do with your problem anyways, it's just a vector of attack you have chosen (wrongly) to make your opinion heard.

Seriously, to get worked up because we chose to dedicate a forum to help the CEP team and because they made a temporary decision to issue a bandaid patch to allow dozens of server operators to continue running their worlds that used CEP with 1.68 is ... a pretty bad waste of time and smells a bit like cooked troll with a hint of cinnamon.

More: <hr />The degree of official sanctioning is irrelevant. Once you set up the CEP team to be the arbiters of compatibility, you opened the door for them to take control of the game.
<hr />No, and since you decided not to listen, this discussion is over. The forum is here because we want it here and it serves a purpose outlined at the top of this forum.

The CEP team can do whatever they want with their free time, and if you don't like it and think the fact that they have a forum here is a big deal, I suggest you go through with your offer to take your money elsewhere.

Let us know if you want your access rights to our forums revoked so you don't have to suffer the horrible existence of the CEP forums anymore.

Goodbye.

Updating your old cloaks to 1.68 (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=495870&post=4300592&forum=47&highlight=)
What this does

This code will auto update an existing cloak based on a BioWare template (i.e. of the palette) on a player.

This means, it will update any standard BioWare cloak to use the new appearance that has been created for it instead of the brownish default template.

It will transfer permanent item properties off the old item, so it will in take into account any modifications made by the player to the item through means like the magical smith in HotU.

It will not update items that do not exist on the BioWare palette or haven't been update to a new appearance inside a module.

To use, copy the .ncs file into override (see below), start the game, enter Debug Mode (##DebugMode 1) and run the script (##runscript x3_dm_updateclk). View Post/Code in separate window (http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewcodepost.html?post=4300592). You can download a compiled version of this script to put into the override directory here:

http://domq.org/files/x3_dm_updateclk.ncs (use right click, save as and save it into the NWNoverride directory)

Remember to restart the game before running the script.

More: This will work for *some* of the cloaks found through the official campaign

Click Here (http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=495870&forum=47)

More: Updated the .ncs to auto identify the object as well, as well as to retrain the stolen and plot flags.

Updated source: http://domq.org/files/x3_dm_updateclk.nss
Updated binary: http://domq.org/files/x3_dm_updateclk.ncs

More: If you just copy the color, the problem is that all upgrades through systems like the smith in HotU would be lost.

Also, modules like infinite dungeons upgrade item properties, so you need to copy those in order to make sure you actually have an identical copy of the item later.

More: <hr />That's not what I want to do http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif . I just want to use the resref cloak to dye the brown cloak. I keep the original cloak with all its properties and I use 'CopyItemAndModify' to modify the colors so they match the resref cloak. So nothing is lost, even local variables and item tag aren't lost.

Of course that works properly only if the brown cloak already uses the correct cloak model. Not sure about that but if you load an old save game different cloaks use different models so unless the used model is random it should be the case.<hr />You can preserve the tag easily by passing it into createobject if you like.

Right now, this is the best option you have.

One could write a script for this to run from the console. Let me look into it.

More: You could give this a try

Click Here (http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=495870&forum=47)

haven't tested it with ID, so chances are it won't work for some cloaks in the module

More: <hr />
The message I got was: Failed to create item with resref cloak_i
<hr />The problem is that this cloak is that the item is part of the module, not part of the standard game resources. I might be able to create a fix for that, let me see.

To sum up:

You want the information out in the open; we say the information is already out in the open. Who's right?

You want us to make things clearer; we want you to look harder. Who's right?

You say you're not the only one complaining about how difficult it is to find the information; we say that those who found the information aren't here to talk about it. Who's right?

In my opinion, we should agree to disagree, since it doesn't sound like either of us is going to sway the other.

cloakmodel.2da - Simple Question (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=495824&post=4301663&forum=42&highlight=)
<hr />I want to use a modified cloakmodel.2da for my server.

Now here is the question that is not clear. Do I have the clients use the cloakmodel.2da or can I just put it in my servers override directory and everyone will be using it?

All the post about cloaks are spammed with rants and no clear means that says it is server side or client side.<hr />Yes all clients will need to have a copy of the cloakmodel.2da for them to see any changes that you have made.

1.68 Cloaks (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=494920&post=4301665&forum=42&highlight=)
<hr /><hr />Anyway the other more important issue was people were saying they were also going to come up with cloaks with other symbols on the back of them. As currently there is a Cyric, Helm, and Torm one (also a dragon one). But symbols of other gods would be nice, as well as just general symbols (e.g. 2 crossed swords). Were would I find these, should and when they come out!?<hr />I made one with Tom Cruise on the back. Click Here (http://www.geocities.com/adamlbarrett/cruisecloak.jpg)http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

They are pretty easy to mess around with especially if you use the PLT plugin (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=other.Detail&id=670) for Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/)<hr />With the new cloak system it is really easy to add new cloak textures.

Brian Chung and Lisa (from DLA) put together a cloak tutorial that is today's BioWare Wednesday article.
