BioWare's latest Premium Module The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr is now available (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=496913&post=4313028&forum=86&highlight=)
<hr />This explains why 1.68 *was not* the last patch and opens the posibility that 1.69 *will not* be the last patch either<hr />1.69, whenever it gets done, will be the last patch for NWN, but let us please return the thread to the discussion of The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr, please

How was ridable horses solved??? (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=496951&post=4313507&forum=46&highlight=)
<hr />I *KNOW* BioWare has always claimed ridable horses was impossible in NWN because the engine would simply not allow it (due to "no stacking on z-axis" problems, if I remember right).<hr />Just to address this one point. We have never said anything is really impossible, but we have said that we were not interested in investing our time into properly developing horses in NWN due to the effort required and our available resources. That being said, you will notice that the statement is still true.

Changes to the BioWare Wednesday format (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=496911&post=4312823&forum=41&highlight=)
BioWare has many games the web and community team are actively supporting, each at a different stage (some are already released (http://nwn.bioware.com/) and in your hands, some are currently in development (http://masseffect.bioware.com/) and are nearing completion (http://jade.bioware.com/pc/), and some (http://dragonage.bioware.com/) have few released details (http://go.bioware.com/?linkgo=1&linkID=3127)). We hope that by changing the format of our web updates, we can better serve the community by maintaining flexibility. What that means to BioWare’s fans is that we are making a change to our web content release schedule in favor of a more flexible schedule for our online updates, and will be discontinuing BioWare Wednesdays. For the latest info on our games and community activities, check news and forum posts regularly, or better yet, sign-up (http://accounts.bioware.com/signup/index.html) for the BioWare Community Newsletter (http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/news/newsletter.html).

Rest assured that we are continuing BioWare’s active and comprehensive support (http://www.bioware.com/support/games/) for our games, encouraging direct dialogue between you and BioWare developers in our various forums (http://forums.bioware.com/forums/index.html), providing news and information on our games (http://www.bioware.com/games/), and showcasing projects and content from the community (http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/contact/bulletin.html).

(Note: If you are aware of something spectacular in the community that deserves recognition, please let us know through the BioWare Bulletin (http://www.bioware.com/bioware_info/contact/bulletin.html). We are always looking for news on what you talented community folks are up to!)

If you are jonesing for content now, try these latest offerings:

• Huge new Premium Neverwinter Nights Module: Wyvern Crown of Cormyr (http://store.bioware.com/products/wyverncrown.html) (as well as the Neverwinter Nights 1.68 update)
• Mass Effect gameplay footage (http://masseffect.bioware.com/downloads.html) narrated by Producer Casey Hudson
• Jade Empire PC screenshots (http://go.bioware.com/?linkgo=1&linkID=3128)

We want your feedback on ways we can create an even larger legion of cosmically-powered fans capable of inhuman feats and to make this community a home base for people who love role-playing games. If you have suggestions for how we can make this community better please post a comment in this discussion. It is your community and we want your ideas!

Thankee.

I've been chasing after this position for almost a year now (BioWare never rushes the important decisions) and I'm glad it's finally here.

BioWare's latest Premium Module The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr is now available (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=496913&post=4312918&forum=86&highlight=)
Shame you'll miss an excellent module put together by the good folks of the DLA. The jousting alone is worth the price imo.

Just because the BioWare Wednesday program is winding down doesn't mean we're slowing down the release of information or updates. Part of my new position will be to aid the different projects in getting their information out to the community. With projects like Jade Empire for the PC, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and the MMO already announced plus other things still in developement for the future as well as continued support of our already released games there's still lots of information to come.

Stay tuned.

Well, I can't say yet what may or may not be included if we make a 1.69 patch, but I can confirm that you do need the internet connection, as with Pirates or Infinite Dungeons, for online authentication to be able to play.

That may be it then. I have played the module with a Lvl 40 character (which is not very fun as the module is geared to a lvl 5-15 PC), but is possible.

What is your Memorable/Funniest Moment in Nwn? (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=496772&post=4313198&forum=42&highlight=)
Back in the day when we were still making the first game (the long long ago if you will), I was once chased around a room by a particularily mean door.

When a scripter hhad build the area they had applied the wrong model to a particular enemy. So I enter the room and see this door in the middle of the room (instead of in a doorway). I walk over to open it or see what is going on, when it charges me and start to attack.

The QA room had a good laugh at the killer door and I was extra careful entering rooms from then on.

More: Names? My favorite name for one of my PCs was "and a cup of tea!".

Why? Well, it meant when people ran up to me they would say "We need your help and a cup of tea!" or during romances I'd get "I want to sleep with you and a cup of tea!".

This is ridiculous (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=496980&post=4313730&forum=87&highlight=)
Have you sent them the receipt number and gift card number as asked?

Unfortunately due to some technical uploading errors there were some problems during the initial release of the module involving the CD-key and authentication. As such the support group have been unusually busy this afternoon.

If youhave already sent the receipt number and gift card number, I know they will be investigating it as soon as they can.

<hr />Where do we send info about little niggling things like typos? nwbugs@bioware.com or another addy?<hr />That is a good place to send them. If it's not the exact location, we can move it to where it should go.

13 Sep 2006 - New Premium Neverwinter Nights Module Released! (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=496916&post=4313140&forum=41&highlight=)
Not at all. Atari took a look at all of the (then) in developement modules before "closing down" the Premium Modules program. However, the Wyvern Crown module was so close to completion that they allowed the DLA team to finish.

This doesn't mean that Tyrants of the Moonsea or Darkness over Daggerford or the rest were any less well made, it was just that WCoC was further along.

More: Oh if we'd known you were willing to settle for those graphics, we could have had horse MUCH sooner.

More: Hi Gnorian, BioWare's Evil Chris Priestly here. I can't answer everything, but lets see here...

<hr />Such as I'm a bit confused about the graphics, which looked more like that of NWN2 then the prequal in certain clips. Are they updating the graphics engine, or did I just imagine it?<hr />Just your imagination. They are very nice graphics, but not an upgrade to the engine

<hr />Quote: And if NWN is getting horses at the last moment, is it also getting riding feats like mounted combat and the riding skill?<hr />Riding skill and Mounted Combat are both in WCoC.

<hr />Quote: I'm also curious about whether or not this means that horse riding will be added to NWN2, in an expansion pack or update.<hr />That would be up to the good folks at Obsidian. I would think it is too late to add it to their initial release, but it might be possible for a future update or sequel.

<hr />Quote: Finaly, if WCC (Wyvern Crown of Cormyr) lets you add horse riding to your module, is it also possible to make creatures like goblins and other monsters ride worgs and other mountable creatures as they did in DnD?<hr />Ick, this'd be the bit that I know nothing about. I'm pretty sure there is already a model for a goblin riding a worg created through the CEP, but I might be wrong. And even if there is, it likely doesn't use the same riding as WCoC. Hopefully someone more knowlegeable will give you the real answer.

T<hr />Quote: hanks to anyone who can clear that up<hr />Hope it helped a bit.

More: <hr />I am suprised how little grumbling there is about this supposedly free module and content being premiumified at the last moment.<hr />It wasn't the last moment. WCoC was always meant to be a Premium module. There was a short period where that was in doubt, and some people may have got the wrong impression, but in the end it came out as it was intended.

Sensible Gamer Voice: If they didn't want you to have it, they would have encripted it.

The horses are encrypted, but there is stuff, like a gorgeous new tileset, that can be used right away.

As far as "will it be available later", we're still looking into it, so stay tuned.

The horses have landed...

More: Best Premium Module Ever.

More: <hr />I also am concerned for the other module developers (like Ossian Studios) who got the short end of the stick for their premium module efforts when the program was supposedly shutdown? Can we get some clarification from Bioware? Thank you!<hr />You can believe us when we say, we would have liked to give an official store release to all the premium modules tht were in production when the decision to discontinue the program came down. Everyone involved with those modules has put incredible effort into them and we would have loved to give all of them their official release.

As for WCoC, it was the most complete of the premium modules at the time the decision to cancel the program was handed down to us, in fact it was very close to release.

Atari and other parties were very impressed with the amount content and quality of work that had been done and how close to completion it was, so they changed their mind and decided to make an exception for this module.

I'm sure Robert's persistence about the matter didn't hurt either.

More: <hr />Well, this was unexpected. I guess we can make a guess as to what's going to be in 1.69 now.

Now the big question, do I go ahead and finish up Darkness over Daggerford then play Wyvern Crown, or put DoD on hold and play WCoC now?<hr />Please don't get too excited about 1.69 just yet, while we intend to release the patch, it isn't done yet and it requires all the usual approvals and a lot of other steps before it happens, which not only takes a long time, but also makes it impossible to say for us when, if and what will be contained.

More: Try to do some emotes while on a horse...

Second post of this picture, but I think I'm in love. If you've got doubts, imagine those trumpets heralding your entrance, the thunder of hooves and a fully realised system for jousting.

*Clicks NWN again and runs back to his precious mount*<hr />Yepp, that's an awesome moment in the mod.

Thankfully, someone did a worg riding goblin already and put it into CEP, just as a creature.

<hr />You don't look like a skeleton...<hr />You haven't met the man.

During one particularly late night of NWN testing, the update broke and every single area of the game was a 1x1 rural tileset area, raining, with a single armoire in the centre of it.

Thus began our QA battlecry of "ARMOIRE!"

Let me be the sixth person on the board to say congratulations! I'd say I'll miss sitting next to you, as I've done for much of my 5 years here, but really, I don't. I'm getting so much work done now that I'm downstairs with the Dragon Age team, it's scary!

<hr />Okay I have buy it! *make a round house kick* grrr! 11.99 US$ and I don't know what is it in €uro! http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
But... you guy's grr...^^<hr />Ow! That hurt! Okay, okay, it's approximately 9.44 EUR (right now, anyway)! Quit kicking me!

More: <hr />- Does it have henchmen? Are they obligatory?<hr />Yes, and maybe.
<hr />Quote: - Is it trap/lock heavy, and if so is there a rogue henchman?<hr />Not really, and possibly.
<hr />Quote: - Is there a Ride skill, if so is it important, and do all classes get it as a class skill?<hr />Yes, maybe, and possibly.
<hr />Quote: - Taking a wild-assed guess. it looks like Purple Dragon Knight might be interesting in this mod. What's the skinny on the PRC?<hr />PRC doesn't apply to this Premium Module.

I know I'm being kinda vague, but just play the darn module, you'll understand soon enough.

More: And just think, Matthias. It only gets better!

<hr />The horses are amazing! Really well implemented, they're completely natural in movement and looks, so well done it is like Bioware included them in the first place (nothing like the horse mod for Morrowind, which was poorly done IMO).<hr />Thanks! I animated the horse's run and walk, and that took me several weeks with several video rentals for all the reference material. I have a couple good friends who are avid horse riders too (like that Astorax fellow), so I got their critiques on how they move. I would have loved to have gotten all the speeds horses can do, but there's only so much the engine can support.

While they are based on the original DLA v1 horse, I had to do extensive remodeling as the legs were structurally different - I tried animating the v1 horses to be more realistic, but the results weren't pretty. Then lots of fun adding the barding so it wouldn't clip.

ragnarok took it from there and added all the rider animations and fidgetting for the horses. Then the Real Fun for the scripters to get it all working without bugs.

Like that stalker horse.

They're scribbles, not a straight line in them at all - but they still look THAT GOOD.

<hr />I do have a question though. Does the cancellation of other premium modules mean that there will never be a multi-player module released that one can work through with friends?<hr />The current horse scripts are a bit messy and oriented towards single-player, but Deva's working on making a universal mount system that can also work with my ridable dragon mounts system, and chances are that will get included into 1.69.

However, the HAKs are unencrypted, there are enough hints around on how we pulled it off. I'd suggest people take a moment to try scripting it themselves, then you can realize why BioWare and Obsidian are so hesitant to work on horses - it's a LOT of work.

<hr />Hmmm... interesting news.

A little shy on the details, which I guess is understandable considering it is a switch in how things will be handled.

I will miss the more personal contact feeling with the human interface... those conglomerate accounts make sense from a managment point of view as more peeps can access them to provide answers to questions etc, but it still saddens me a bit.

However, expect an email to that account some time shortly. I am looking forward to interfacing with whomever is going to handle things now.<hr />Hey Bannor,

I would like to understand your comment in more detail... what do you mean by the loss of a human interface and the switch to conglomerate accounts?

I ask because the changes to the Wed format will not reduce BioWare dev presence in the community, and it seems that is how you interpretted the info.
