A Horse Story: Wherein a man is instructed in war
Part 1
“It seems a puzzle,” wrote Captain Therance Ashmustinton momentarily distracted by the alluring glint coming from his polished steel cuirass, “To continue the campaign against the barbarians without horses never mind proper tea biscuits.”
Part 2
He set his gold-tipped feather pen down on his well-appointed oak desk, twirling his carefully waxed mustache. “It seems a bother about these unkempt savages I daresay.”
Part 3
Just then a blue-painted wild man charged in a cut off his head with an antler.
“Well crap.” And the Captain died.

To celebrate the release of the Wyvern Crown of Cormyr, Jay and I (your intrepid and giving Community team), are going to hold a little contest and give away five copies of the Wyvern Crown of Cormyr Premium Module to 5 creative and lucky people. Play it yourself, give it to a friend as a gift, taunt your little brother with it, or just bask in the glow of winning. Interested? If so, keep reading.
Among the many cool aspects of the Wyvern Crown of Cormyr is the long awaited inclusion of horses to Neverwinter Nights. To celebrate these horses, we’re looking for your best Neverwinter story. Sounds easy? Not so fast! The story must include horses in some way. AND to make it even more challenging, it must be less than 100 words! It can be serious, it can be funny, it can be whatever you want it to be, but it must be related to horses, Neverwinter Nights and must be less than 100 words. Jay and I are going to pick the 5 winners and send the winners the free Wyvern Crown of Cormyr modules.
Here’s the rules:
1) All submissions must conform to the standard forum rules (valid account, valid working email addy, no swearing, etc)
2) All submissions must be “horse” related and NwN/Fantasy related in some way. Be creative.
3) All submissions MUST be 100 words or less. I will be counting and if it is 101 words, you’re disqualified.
4) All submissions must be replied to in this thread.
5) All submissions must be submitted by 1159 PM Sunday Sept 17. Winners will be chosen and notified Monday Sept 18.
6) You can enter more than once, but only 1 free module per person (so you can’t win multiple times. Share the love people).
7) The judge's (me and Jay) word is final.
So get to it. Send in those NwN horse stories for your chance to win. http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif
More: No.
Well over 100 words and you're also staff. You're disqualified. Now shoo, you're scraing off the real entrants.
More: These are all great. Keep it up. http://forums.bioware.com/_commonext/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I also tested this module, and so did many other BioWarians. Between us, we've likely tested all the core classes and races, and all eleventeen genders. DLA fixed the more serious problems that arose with some classes, so you can play the way you want to play. WCoC has many options.
And for future reference, being grouchy and throwing insults back and forth is not a good way to get your questions answered by the friendly, helpful people in our community. Thanks.

-How much of Cormyr can we explore? I'm sold if someone says I can see Suzail, Arabel, and Marsember!! And what of vast forests and purple dragons??
Only as much as the story can handle. While there are a lot of areas in WCoC and places to go and see, I'm afraid they don't extend all the way out to Suzail, Arabel, or Marsember.

Quote: 1) Hold onto the mod until I finish off the things I wanted to get done for the first open beta version
This way, you'll get something out to your audience and you'll have enough feedback from your beta players to help you work on fixes and completion and polish before your next beta or final release.
Achievable goals like "8 of 13 conversations written" and "2 conversations polished" and "content complete" are a self-fulfilling prophecy that can prevent an endless cycle of tweaks and perfectionist mentality, while goals like "absolutely no bugs," "a module everyone likes," and "not until I think it's perfect" are highly unrealistic for most any project and may prevent you from releasing anything at all.
Good luck to you! It sounds like a great project.

WCoC Bugs/Problems (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=497056&post=4314785&forum=86&highlight=)

The Problems
Since getting my new computer WCoC is the first time I have hit massive lag while playing NWN. The 1st encounter with the mounted bandits was disastrous the game was chocking and really unplayable (not responding to pauses, characters, enemies and horses jumping all over the place). The next encounter with the crust ranger was a lot better although the mounted aspect was still far from smooth. The jousting seemed smooth. Also the pathfinding in many areas seem bad and even gets worse when mounted. My character also ended up getting duplicate sets of the ride radial menu options.
I've had that same issue and it turns out it was having my sound settings set to software, instead of hardware. As a result, between spawning the encounter, dealing with OnPerception() of everyone in the area, pathfinding to their target and rendering the scene, the CPU now has to do software sound mixing of all the battle sounds - chug city. Toggling it back to hardware sound fixed it up a lot (I had set it to software for a debugging issue and forgot to revert it). Hope that helps you!
More:
The in game info suggests that the horses are useful for pack animals yet the game says I cannot access their inventory??
Do horses have pockets? Or something akin to it? If not, where do you expect the horse to carry your junk-er I mean, ph4t l3wt? In some magical horse pocket, or in his mouth?
(Yes, you need saddle packs before the horse can carry stuff, but of course, it costs a bit more when you're purchasing them)

The dwarf dismounts off the horse and takes his helm off.
"To win the whole tourney was beyond my wildest dreams, Anvil! You have done me an incredible honor!" Lacinda exclaimed, running up to him.
"I couldn’t have done it without Comet," he replied, patting the horse’s neck. "He’s a mighty fine beast. Here are his reins, I have to see Sir Hawklin about my quest, but I’ll meet up with you later." Waving, Anvil departed Lacinda’s company and strolled towards the castle.
Upon entering the castle grounds, Anvil encountered a strange yet familiar sight. "Comet? What are you doing here? Lacinda will be looking for you." He tied the horse to the nearby post, then strolled towards the castle. Closing the main door behind him, he turned around to come face to face with-
"Comet? How did you-? Weren’t you just-... Okay, I know you like me, but they don’t allow horses indoors, out with you!" Anvil shooed the poor horse outside and tied him up again. He walked back inside and went to the main hall of the castle. Opening the door, he was greeted with the brown eyes of a horse.
"By Bane, why are you following me!" Anvil shouted. He ran to another door and opened it, only to see Comet waiting for him on the other side. Opening door after door in the castle, Anvil couldn’t escape the dreaded stalker horse of doom...
...oh... NWN HORSE story, I misread that and thought you wanted a NWN HORROR story, and thought the troubles I had with the stalker horse bug would qualify.

I was prowling the marketplace in Neverwinter looking for an easy mark,
I spotted a traveling merchant hawking a magic horse of all things.
The beast was a magnificent spirited roan that was drawing a lot of
attention.
If the merchant claims were true, the horse could track down and retrieve
your heart's desires. I knew then that I must possess this creature by any
means necessary.
I came back at night snuck in and stole away with the animal.
Not wasting any time, I ordered the horse to gather me 1000gp. It neighed
and ran off. A few minutes later it returned with a large pouch that I retrieved from
its mouth. Sure enough it was full of gold! Amazed I sent it to get me
a pint of ale so I could celebrate my good fortune. The horse neighed
and ran off, returning but a few minutes later with pint of strong ale.
Now all I needed was a good meal to make my celebration complete,
I was craving a bit of moose meat, so I ordered the horse to go get me some.
But the dumb thing just stood their staring at me. I shouted at it, but it wouldn't move, so I pulled out my blackjack and beat the stupid animal. It still wouldn't
move, so I kept on beating it until it eventually died. I didn't realize
what a good thing I had until it was gone…
I guess now I’ll always know that "A stolen roan gathers no moose"
