WE HAVE CHOSEN THE WINNERS!
But before I get to them a few words.
Wow, you are a talented bunch out there. Jay and I were blown away by the sheer number of qualified, excellent entries. It has taken until now for us to pick our final five due to the hard choices that we had to make. Our experiences were roughly the same. We read through them all and chose the bunch that we each liked most. We then did round after round of paring things down until we each came up with a list of our five best. We then compared and fought for what we prefered.
This was no easy task, but we're both happy with the five that we have chosen. Again, a big thanks and well done to you all, and congratulations to the 5 winners. See the next post for the results.
More: Here are the winners in no particular order. Once again, thanks to all who entered and congrats to the chosen 5:
Young Markus moved through the stables, his eyes peering at each horse carefully. He was almost finished with his training, and he was allowed to select the steed that he would one day be able to summon when needed.
While there were many selections, the young lad's gaze fell to a stall seperated from the rest; one containing a golden yellow colt.
"What of him?", inquired the student.
"The mare died while giving birth", replied the stableman.
A smile gently appeared on the lad's face. It seemed just that one orphan should be paired with another. - Elhanan
I kneel beside her as she lies near a great oak tree, breathing slowly. Her cold, dark eyes appear almost human to me. I stroke her soft mane and coo silently to her, steering clear of the massive wound near her chest. Then, without hesitation, I snap her neck.
I feel an overwhelming pang of guilt within me. She saved my life, running into the spear that was meant for me, and all I could do in return was hasten the unavoidable.
But there is no time for mourning as the battle horn calls again.
Forgive me, dear Starlight. - Kevlarcardhouse
“And may the sun shine long upon....” Boric felt a sense of elation. The treaty was all but signed! The Alliance desperately needed this treaty with the Horselords to turn the barbarian invasion. But it was touchy business; one false step in protocol, and the Horselords’ lances would turn against the Alliance, instead. His stomach rumbled. It had been a hard day of negotiations, with no break.
“Come!” Horselord Erghot slapped Boric’s back. We shall feast and seal the agreement.”
Boric relaxed. The difficult part was over; he could breathe easy now. “Wonderful! I’m so hungry, I could eat a....” - clubok
Lonely without his steed, a knight walked far and wide.
Lost without his companion, he crawled across Neverwinter.
Aghast he erred alone, within the Shadows of Undrentide.
Foolhardy, he battled on foot the Hordes of the Underdark.
Desperate, he dashed into infinite dungeons.
Hopeful, he dreamt of a new Neverwinter where horses would run free.
Mourning this broken hope, he fled east to a land far away.
Astonished, he saw equine majesty run free across virgin forests.
Revived, he tamed the fiercest stallion and fought anew,
For a friend he had found, in the land of the Purple Dragon. - Alerias05
The Ballad of Balefire
Poised to fight yet drenched in fear,
we quivered as we saw,
the Orcish band draw ever near,
with threat of taming law.
But just when on the verge of break,
and situation dire,
our general did to saddle take,
upon the great Balefire.
With nostrils flaring galloped forth,
black body barding braced,
crashed into ranks of Orcish north,
so home the others raced.
And so this song to horse donate,
for granting win desire,
never four legged friend so great,
as proud mount called Balefire. - Quillmaster

Wyvern Crown - No textures in linux (http://nwn.bioware.com//forums/viewpost.html?topic=497587&post=4321411&forum=87&highlight=)
Sounds like you have a video card that is not capable of supporting DDS textures, as we did not include the low res TGAs for WCoC (as if it wasn't big enough already). You'll have to get a newer video card that can support DDS.

Looks like you are using 16M textures and have environment mapping turned off.
Increase the texture setting, or turn on environment mapping in the options menu and the problem should go away.
