I found the coolest way to kill liches (you all probably already know it, but I didn't till today and been playing this game for a good long time). Here it is...a simple magic user spell called polymorph self....they way it works is you cast this, wake up the lich and then turn into a slime...who you use to tank the lich. None of the lich spells will affect you and it will eventually run out of spells. Its summons spells will hurt, but there are other characters in your party right....death spell the summonings or something.

Now that's a slimey tactic. Liches range in difficulty, I'm sure you can get away with that with some of the liches but on the harder ones I doubt it. My favorite thing to do on those lesser liches is turn them with a good turn undead level, or send a sunray their way ;)

Indeed, Daystar is what makes lich slaying easy for those who like to save-use-reload.
Probably the only item in game that contains 7th level spell imbued in it.

A good tactic indeed Subra, it will not work against Kangaxx though, cause imprisonment ignores magic resistance.

ps: Daystar contains a 7th level spell but the Staff of the Magi even contains a 9th level spell (spelltrap iirc).

For every lich other than Deirex (there's an autosave before you go in, so you have to go in with everybody) and Kangaxx, all you need is a solo fighter and a protection from undead scroll. The lich doesn't even see you.

It's almost like cheating.

So I could use my cavalier to cast protection from evil on the whole party and then whale on the lich while he couldn't see me?

Kangaxx and Twisted Rune are the only liches I'm aware of where you can't enter the chamber without your whole party. The lich in the Gate district you can go in alone, so can you go in alone against the Elemental and Shade liches (if I remember their names rightly) who hold the golden bones of Kangaxx. Another good thing I found is to load a protection from undead scroll in your quickslot and and cast or use a simulacrum and cast the scroll from the sim onto your hero and then the sim will also serve to cause Kangaxx to go hostile. IIRC, kangaxx has to be hostile for it to be killed...not so any other liches to my knowledge.
