First, those linked are export scripts only (MAX -> NWN MDL), you'll need to grab NWMax (http://nwmax.dladventures.com/) to get the ability to import NWN MDL files in. You'll also need to grab NeverWinter Explorer (http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Other.Detail&id=248) to be able to browse and extract the NWN1 resource files.
Then, your next critical setting is to make sure 3D Studio Max's scale is set to 1 MAX unit = 1cm.

If you're playing on a servervault server, the .BIC files get updated automatically when you exit the server (or an export characters command is sent). When you do an export, it saves a snapshot of the character to your localvault.
So you never really have to save your character on a servervault server.
