I recently installed the latest version of the Windows Media Player but it has caused some problems. Whenever I insert a CD and the drive starts reading it, I get a blue screen with a nonsensical error message. The same thing has happened once before but I fixed it by simply removing the new version of WMP. It doesn't work now, though.
I'm defragmenting the hard drive right now. If that doesn't help either, should I format it or try something else?
I'm running Win 98, by the way.

Windows 98 (as in "ate" my hard drive) and Windows ME (as in "many errors") are notorious for errors when using newer elements of MS software. Is there any possibility you could just upgrade to 2k or xp?

Right down the error message, and type it in to google, and/or search on MS's site for it
Does this happen with all CDs or just audio CDs? If it's just audio CDs then it should be really easy to stop it from happening (though without really fixing the problem) - I can't remember what it is you'd have to do though (and I don't have windows otherwise I'd find out for you)
Then, after that, install winamp/foobar ;)

It happens with all CDs and the message reads like this:
An exception 0E occurred at 0028:xxxxxxxx in VxD ---.
This was called from 0028:xxxxxxxx in VxD scsi1hlp(03) + 00000508.
It may be possible to continue normally.
The x's represent characters that are different each time. I've tried to google a solution but I can't find this specific problem. Oh well, I guess I'll keep trying.
EDIT: Never mind, I found the solution right after making this post. Thanks for the replies.
