A short while ago, I got my BroadBand internet connection.
After getting knocked over the head by a couple of viruses, I hastily installed Norton Antivirus.
I got my PC working again, and all seemed to be normal.
Now however, when I start playing Morrowind or Vice City, two games that used to work perfectly before all this, I get a flash of a blue screen, and then my PC reboots itself; when this started happening, FarCry (another game) was still working perfectly.
Recently however, the same thing happened to FarCry and yesterday, it even happened while I was just on my Windows desktop playing music and surfing the internet.

Anyone know this problem and/or have some solutions??? I really need some :help: here

PS my specs are WinXP Pro, P4 2.4 ghz cpu, 256 MB RAM, and a Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 video card.

If you need any more information let me know.
Thank you all out there

Norton Antivirus sucks as it feels that it has to take over your computer's system functions in order to protect them. This causes problems with all the other software that wants to access those functions.

The free version of AVG is much better.

You must have the latest version of NAV installed to work with XP (NAV 2002 is said to work though).

You can try;

Enter safe mode and uninstall NAV;

Run SFC /scanow (from the Start Menu Run dialogue) to check that all your system files are intact.

Reinstall NAV

The Norton site has a troubleshooting knowledgebase (http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nav/)

The message on the Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) should help you narrow your search.

I always disable NAV if I'm playing a game; this might help.

But the reboot problem sounds more like a virus (Blaster, maybe?). The NAV website should help; you may need to run a removal tool if it is indeed a virus problem.

I use a free antivirus software called AntiVir from free-av.com (http://free-av.com). It rules.
