View Full Version : Keldorn or Valygar?
IronEagle Tue, 14th Nov '00, 1:36pm Im a paladin (for the +5 sword) and at the end i wanna see if i can do all the quests the evil way and see if i can start a new game with a fallen paladin (i doubt it, but that would be sweet) Anyway the one i pick is coming with me till the end so which should it be? (keldorn might not be a good pick since i already have a pally with the +5 sword) and if i pick Valygar which tactic is better dual wield or single wield with +3 katana?
mountain-mike Tue, 14th Nov '00, 1:55pm I'm actually running a paladin PC with Keldorn as my number 2 at the moment. As the PC is a non-specialised pally, he doesn't have Keldorn's anti-magic skills, which are much better than anything Valygar can offer. I think that this would be slightly different if I was running an inquisitor myself.
IronEagle Tue, 14th Nov '00, 2:03pm I find that Undead hunter is the best to use. why? because hes immune to level drain and hold. which are the 2 things in the game that get you killed more than not. especially vs illithids and vampires (depending on the quests you could end up fighting lotsa vamps 2-3 times during the game. and illithids at least 2 times. but then again ya gotta be all nice and stuff to everyone... so, whos to say its better?
TelexStar Tue, 14th Nov '00, 6:47pm I dumped Jihara whats-her-name for Valygar and if been most pleased with his performance. I invested 2 points in katana and two points in duel weapon style, I currently have him weilding 2 x +3 katanas and he ROCKs!!
does anyone else think that imoen is'nt very good? I'm still morning the loss of that traitor bastard yoshimo, cause lets face it, he was the best thief! Who do you recommend I should recruit as a theif replacement. or should I stick with Imoen??
Elverath Tue, 14th Nov '00, 7:27pm Jan, Jan, Jan, Jan, Jan....why jan? he's a great theif and a great magic user. so JAN!
Chelsea Tue, 14th Nov '00, 10:38pm Yup, Imoen really sucks in BG2 and as time goes on you get to see how useful Jan is. In my game Chapter 3 he is 11th Illusionist and 13th Thief and has (I think) well over 100% in all things (just under in Hide and move silent). With a few items found and the ones that he comes with he is top. Also he is a good spellcaster. Jan's the man.
Septic Yogurt Tue, 14th Nov '00, 11:01pm And he has STYLE!
Actually, i changed his primary colour to black leather and it looks better.

The Wretched Wed, 15th Nov '00, 12:05am Alot of people seem to believe that being Lawful Good entails being a "goody two-shoes".. and the reason behind that is most people play Lawful Good that way.
My slant on a believer in this alignment is someone who fights for the cause of Good over Evil, but who also believes that laws and civilization are good things that should be upheld.
For instance, I'm playing a LG Warrior-Priest of Lathander, and I'm currently doing the Stronghold quests. One of these quests involves being a marriage councelor, and there's a guy who comes to you, stating that he believes his wife is cheating on him, and that he doesn't know what to do.
Basically, my answer for him was that he has to make his wife uphold her honor and duty by staying true to vows she has made... I did not choose any of the conversation paths that involved love and what-not. A vow under the law is absolutely binding, and this woman needed to uphold hers! This might *almost* seem like a Lawful Neutral response, but it isn't... because someone of that alignment would probably not try to convince the man to bring his wife around, but would urge that he follow the letter of the law, having her executed for her crime of Adultery.
These are not exactly my own personal views, but in terms of being Lawful Good, they fit absolutely perfect, despite not being exactly of the "goody two-shoes" variety.
And umm... excuse me for ranting somewhat off-topic, but I saw one of the posts in this thread which talked about how being a Paladin meant always being a goody-goody, and had to respond. :)

IronEagle Wed, 15th Nov '00, 1:11am well i figure while in playing a lawful good i might as well do it the right way.
and at the end with a pally its possible to do it the evil way... can you get a fallen paladin if you do it the evil way? or no matter what is he lawful good?
IronEagle Wed, 15th Nov '00, 8:11am Are you telling me noone knows if you can actually have a fallen paladin?
Badger Wed, 15th Nov '00, 8:50am I think that if a Paladins rep falls below 6 he becomes a fighter, dont know if he can get it back with a few donations...As for becoming a Fallen Paladin, thats a really good question i wish i could answer :) would be a hell of an interesting Kit for an expansion tho
mountain-mike Wed, 15th Nov '00, 9:02am Elverath and Septic: Yo my brothers, fellow believers in the cause of Gnome-dom! "Your knees are mine" has to be the coolest battle cry in the whole game! (And he ain't half bad either).
IronEagle Wed, 15th Nov '00, 10:39am Well at the end of the game there is a way you can do things.... i can finish the game with 20 rep and still do them the evil way... thus you can start a new game as evil... but my question is. Will i start out as a paladin thats good? or one thats bad? or maybe i will be reduced to a common fighter. (wish i could just warp to end and find out.. with out cheating that is. heh)
Shura Wed, 15th Nov '00, 10:57am I would take Valygar. Maybe because I would kill Keldorn like 5 minutes after he enters my party.
anybodey_9901 Thu, 16th Nov '00, 11:27am I used Keldorn but he has the AC disadvantage, he starts with a low AC of 10 (so i need him to use a shield to raise the AC) while Valygar's AC is good. But Keldorn has some spells which Valygar hasn't (like True Seeing-you'll need it!). Valygar's sword is cool! the one that causes bleeding. And Keldorn also starts with a high experience so I chose him over Valygar (...I should have dump that traitor Yoshi and used Valygar instead...)
Spudsquisher Wed, 16th May '01, 11:38pm umm..u can get a fallen paladin patch from http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/index_editors.htm
