Just searched through the stats to see how other nations have faired against Pakistan in Pakistan to see if history is telling us whether this series loss is such a disaster or to be expected. It makes interesting reading.
Australia since 1960
Won 1 Drawn 1 Lost 5
England since 1960
Won 2 Drawn 3 Lost 2
India since 1960
Won 1 Drawn 3 Lost 2
W Indies since 1960
Won 1 Drawn 3 Lost 2
N Zealand since 1960
Won 1 Drawn 1 Lost 5
S Africa Not comparable due to apartheid
Ok, so theres a list of the top nations over 45 yrs records in Pakistan. Out of 33 series in Pakistan they have lost just 6 tests against these five teams combined winning 16 series.
England have faired quite well compared to some, but these records just go to show what a place it is to play and how this loss should be treated as a blip in the grand scheme of their success, such a fine line between success and failure which all boils down to the first tests last day.
Just to point out Australia's record in Pakistan which is very poor by their standards and may explain why they haven't toured since 1998 and only twice since 1988. Running scared?? I don't know about that but it certainly helps your rankings if you don't visit places where you struggle wouldn't you say? :p
Perhaps we should of helped our rankings by not accepting these difficult tours but it just shows how much class we have and true British spirit by undergoing these challenges, never let it be said we are a nation that shirks these challenges :smash: .
