I've heard loads about this game from my mate whose got it. He says that you can be a god or a devil in this game and you can pretty much do anything ...

So could anyone tell me their views on B&W and also tell me more about the game ... also what are its system requirements?

I believe I have ranted at length on the subject of Black & White- probably on both this site and Slappy's- so I won't go into enormous detail again. Summary:

Good points: the AI is everything it promised to be. The NPCs are the most believably "real" of any game I've ever seen before. The graphics are also amazing: it is a spectacular game to watch over someone else's shoulder.

Bad point: The awkwardness of the interface is a total showstopper. I can't stress enough how hard it is to learn how to play this game. In addition to a total lack of navigational buttons on the screen, and no pause function, you basically have to relearn to use a mouse in 3 dimensions instead of two. Remember how frustrating those first 5 minutes of using a mouse for the very first time were? (Probably you don't, actually, if you're under 25!) Well, you will relive those 5 minutes for the first month or so of Black & White.

Phew. Rant over, for now. Here are the minimum system requirements:
- Windows 85, 98, or 2000 (NOT NT)
- 350 MHz Pentium II
- 64 MB RAM
- 4x CD ROM or DVD ROM
- 500 MB free hard disk space + Direct X 7
- 8MB Direct 3D-capable video card with DirectX y compatible driver
- Direct X 7 compatible sound card

The Recommended install requires a 500 MHz Pentium III, 8x CD, and 16 MB+ video card. I strongly recommend this last, as my own PC has the minimum requirements and I found it so slow I ended up moving to my husband's computer with the improved video card.

If you do decide to play despite me being a complete wet blanket, ;) be sure to let me know your thoughts.

You don't really get a choice on being a god or a devil, but depending on how you, as a god, act, would probably decide that. Almost everything about the game is awsome except for the fact that it gives you a headache with all the controls. (Zoom in, Zoom out, scroll, turn, focus, look up, look down, ect.

I own it and hate it. Yes you can be a good or evil god but it's far to hard to play good anyway. THe ai is AWFUL as your creature rarley eveer listens to commands, plus resource gathering is just cheap.

The creatures in Black and White are wonderful, but the pesky villagers are a total pain, they almost tempt you to play an evil god just so you can eat them all!!!

Nice game, but i found difficult to do all the things i wanted: taking care of creature and learning it, raising belief in your and other villages and the worst, taking care of worshipers (i dont know was it bug, but their food sometimes dissapeared)

I almost always played 2nd level, never wanted to finish the game, dont know why?

yappie!

You can not be a devil, but certainly EVIL!

Just cast a fire ball on the Village Store, and summon a Physical shield around the Village, they cant escape!!!

I borrowed my friends version, and I thought it was really good, especially being evil,

I thought the game was fantastic.

It does take a while to teach your creature how to do stuff, but it's well worth it. I burst out laughing when I saw my tiger's (?) reaction to some petting.

I couldn't really play the game, cause my creature discovered some infernal fascination with eating villagers, including the ones that were vital to the quests...

I played this game round a mates. He didn't have a very good graphics card at the time and so the graphics looked total sh*te (i've never seen trees that have the pink and green blobs texture in rela life before). I didn't like playing the game as a game. What i did enjoy was beating my creature up, picking up villagers and throwing them into mountains *splat* and dropping everything i could pick up on top of the nearest villager. That'll teach them to ask for grain when i dropped 20,000 units on his head hehhehe :hahaerr:
If you can get it cheap it's worth playing if you can put up with the controls or just want to be mean :evil:

Two words: Incredibly buggy.

I just got it, and played an allnighter a few days ago.

Yes, the controls are a headache. There is a quest where you have to follow a yogi as he goes around a hill, and if you let him get out of frame, you fail. Ack! *How* many times have I tried that?!

And you can't even kill him in your frustration. I tried.

What I don't understand is the levels. I am on third, but it's the same thing again. I am not sure about this game.

I own B&W and personnaly i LOVE it!

The screen isn't cluttered with an interface panel and the controls are simple, the patch definatly makes it a world better though, without the patch it is pretty crappy. You get a creature that if you look after it PROPERLY it will turn out like you, strange I know and seems unlikely.

The Yogi quest is a bugger and you need full use of scrolling, pausing, zooming and turning. Visiting the Gods playground will probably help and if you already have B&W and you know the ANNOYING invincible guy you find here is a vid - Actor Must Die! (http://www.planetblackandwhite.com/nexea/tricks/flash_actormustdie.shtml)
the rest of the site has useful hints and trick and stuff as well

They've just released a really awful looking PSone version of B&W too, god, does anyone still play the PSone!?

Yup, I was playing it about 30 min's ago.

Black and white was ok, it got kinda frustrating when your creature decides to go against your will, no matter how many times you tell it not to.
Example, Ive learnt from past experience that making decipled breeders is a big no-no unless you limit it, other wise, you end up with too many mouths to feed, and too little food to go round. But the second the people want more children, my creature goes on a rampage, turning nearly everyone into a breeder, ive slapped it, tried to turn its attention elsewhere, but it just neverworks.

I think my copy of creature isle has a bug on it, once I get to a certain point, it just crashes the next time I go to do another task or advance the story. Ive never played it since, I got too far  how dare it do that to me!!!!

If your creature disobeys you then it is because you didn't raise it properly :nono:

Cool are the moodswings I got during playing this game.

One minute I was being nice, building lot´s houses, watering plants giving food and stuff.
Two minutes later I got so stressed up by the average stupidity of my cow (yeah, I know I´m an idiot too) that I was setting my villages on fire, torturing my cow, was throwing with women and sacrifing the children, mwhwhwahaha

But I´m nice now, hopefully.

I have the (not so) new Creature Isle, I did have Black & white, cause I was borrowing it from a friend, but I always spend to much attention on my creature and not enough on the rest of my people so i nearly always end up with a shiny creature and a totally evil hand, and when I try to be evil I never can get my creature to become evil aswell. But anyway, it's fun playing catch with villagers, and creating natural disasters with the local wildlife...
