How many gates are there? I've closed eight now.

During a loading scene I read that there are 16 Daedra princes each with his own plane in Oblivion. Does that mean that there are 16 gates?

I haven't got a clue, they seem to be popping up out of nowhere. There are three of them near the town of Anvil, where i just bought my first house, seems like they're after me. :shake:

Btw....are they all closed in the same manner ? I closed the one at Kvatch, and a little later i stumbled on another one, which i immediately entered as the moneyhungry bastard i am, but i never got to close the gate. I switched on and off a few levers inside two towers, but nothing really happened, except for a bridge extending itself and back again. I even got lost and couldn't find my way to the exit. I got pissed, saved the game, and stopped playing for a while, and when i picked the game up again, i easily found an exit, but i never managed to close the portal.

So i guess the big question is...are all gates closed in the same manner, and exactly what did i overlook the last time ?

They're all closed in the same way. You probably just got lost; I would have completely lost my way in the Kvatch one if there were no markers.

I've closed 17 now so there are definately more than 16.

They are very simple to close, though. Usually I only have to jump over the lava to the big tower and run up the stairs to the sigil stone, ignoring every bad guy in sight. Only takes me two minutes if I'm lucky.
