View Full Version : Strange amounts of starting hitpoints

I've just started a new BG2+ToB game. I imported my party from BG1 and almost all had wrong numbers of HP. I'd just say "it's a random die, some inconsistency, but nothing what Shadowkeeper cannot fix." But when I created a new dwarven Barbarian, I was really confused - he had even more HP than he possibly can have according to AD&D rules! He is lvl7 and he has 96 base HP (without CON and items bonuses). If I'm not wrong, Barb gets 1d12 per level, so he can have max.84. On the other hand, my lvl8 human Fighter had 80 base HP which is correct.
One day later I killed my laptop with a cup of water:bang:, it's drying now (hope it's gonna live). Well, I assembled an emergency P200 with 112 MB RAM and started BG2 on this machine (yes, it works! It's a pain, but better than a barbed wire in the eye). I created a human fighter (lvl7 of course) and he's got 80 base HP. They both have HP for one more level than they actually are! WTF is going on?

It happened in vanilla BG2+ToB (latest patch already included) and in Baldurdash fixed game either.

I'll probably SK the HP to correct numbers calculated from the rules...

The PC typically gets an extra die of hit points--it comes from the engine itself and can't be corrected. It's also flaky, as it sometimes shows up in character creation in Throne of Bhaal and sometimes not. Dorner tried to fix it for Baldurdash, as did the Fixpack team.

This bonus was meant only for the protagonist for sure, but in multiplayer, everyone in party can be a player character... So it's another "legit" way to boost the health of characters

And, of course, thanks for your reply!
