What can I do to get rid of that damn irritating advert on the board home page that makes a noise when you accidentally move your mouse over it? It's annoying beyond belief!!

Become an SPS member, and thus, rid yourself of every advert.

When I saw the thread's name I was betting a drunk post. Sounded like someone with a 3% BAC would say.
After reading it's content I'm still not sure.

But yes, the "hellooo" is very annoying.

If Tal is both willing and able to eliminate such ads, I'd be more than happy to forward this along next time it happens. I don't get these kind of ads very often here, but I do get a certain number of them.

I get them all the time, I will send him images of them next time. I hate them too.

I remove any non-user initiated sound ads, but those that fire off only when you mouse over them are not a major problem as far as I'm concerned. The Hellooo ones have user-initiated sound, meaning that if you don't mouse over them, they won't make a peep.

So you can either keep your cursor away from them, or get an SPS account, which you can use to disable all ads site and board-wide. This reminds me, I need to update the list of SPS perks... many new ones since we've moved, and a whole slew more coming up.

I didn't get any of these after logging out of my account (including the SPS account). Do they only show for users in English-speaking countries?

Not necessarily... depends totally on the advertising campaign. Some are more narrowly focused than others.

I don't know why you guys are complaining about the ads on the site. I've been the 1,000,000th visitor on the site SEVERAL times this month and have about 15 new laptops coming to me in the mail! :D

Still, Tal, it is hard to keep your mouse away from banner... I mean, when I move my mouse from the address bar down to the forums, it goes off because I never notice the ads until they Helloooooo at me. At which point they annoy me. But it doesn't really matter I guess, I mean, I am not going to stop coming here because of annoying ads.

The ads don't seem too bad to me. Sure they can be annoying, but I've experienced far worse on other sites. Besides, if they help keep this site up and running then that's cool with me.

I know that they can be bothersome (I'm certainly no fan of them), but they're neither constant nor overly annoying, like a number of others that I do remove regularly. They help pay the bills, and that's the harsh reality of the situation. I think that anyone being able to get rid of all the ads plus getting all the other SPS perks is well worth 10 US cents a day.

The best thing with annoying ads is it might encourage members to get an SPS account so they can be removed. ;)

I just noticed this - if you move your mouse back and forth very quickly over the ad, you can get a kind of an echo effect.

I finally saw this one. I always got a different one where the thing went "Oh my God! No way!" in the same annoyingly loud and obnoxious voice. :)

I finally found the add. While annoying, I like to create a echo effect with the sound with the volume turned up to max and the speakers plugged in. Annoys the hell out of my family :D
