View Full Version : Song of Ice and Fire Party
Barmy Army Sun, 2nd Dec '07, 11:38pm I'm really into the George RR Martin books lately, and also started playing BG again. So it appeared to me to maybe make a party based on characters from the series.
My gripe is not having any banter, so I probably won't do it.. but hey, I guess it's fun to imagine what it'd be like!
This is what I've got so far (name / class / weapon / stats)
Ser Gregor Clegane - Fighter/Tank - Two-Handed Sword - 20/17/19/7/8/5
Oberyn Martell - Barbarian - Spear - 15/20/16/15/9/17
Jon Snow - Archer - Long Bow - 14/19/16/17/17/14
Salladhor Saan - Thief - Darts - 16/17/16/17/16/18
Thoros of Myr - Cleric - Mace - 18/13/19/12/18/14
Daenerys Targaryen - Sorcerer - Dagger - 7/17/11/18/16/17
Such is the quality of the books, there's a whole load of characters I wished I could get in, but it's only a 6 member party - shame!
Strife Mon, 3rd Dec '07, 1:20am Ser Gregor Clegane being an immensely strong, plate wearing, two-handed sword wielding juggernaut sounds about right. Though I don't think he'd qualify as having 17 dex; the books state that he's fast for a big man, but he's probably not quite that dextrous. I wonder if there's any mods that allow you to use a 2-hander and a shield together, now that would really be an accurate protrayal of him.
Oberyn Martell.. I think perhaps he'd be more of a Fighter/Assassin, given that he's a member of the nobility, and has most likely had some sort of formal martial training, and his predilection for using poisons.
The rest of your choices sound about right, though it's too bad that Thoros of Myr can't wield a sword by default, I guess you could let him cast Flame Blade (is that available to clerics? sorry, not very familiar with BG2 game mechanics nowadays), and Daenerys should be of good alignment so she can get a dragon familiar.
Yes, it's rather a shame that you can only have 6 characters.. off the top of my head I can see a few characters I would like to have: Jaime Lannister, Tyrion Lannister, Areo Hotah, Brienne, Catelyn Stark, Cersei Lannister, Barristan Selmy; and if you include characters that have already been killed, the list just goes on and on..
As an aside, does anyone know if they're actually considering making a game out of the series? I would so dearly love to play it.
Enagonios Mon, 3rd Dec '07, 2:49am wouldn't Jon Snow be more of a Ranger-> Scout?
Faraaz Mon, 3rd Dec '07, 8:12pm I agree with Enagonios...I'd make Jon Snow a Stalker...or vanilla Ranger even...
Elfen Lied Mon, 3rd Dec '07, 10:18pm I guess you could let him cast Flame Blade (is that available to clerics? sorry, not very familiar with BG2 game mechanics nowadays), and Daenerys should be of good alignment so she can get a dragon familiar.
Pretty sure Clerics can cast Flame Blade, and err, isn't only the PC that can cast Find Familar?
Strife Tue, 4th Dec '07, 12:31am Oh yeah, I forgot about the PC-only familiar rule.. well, I guess you could either SK a familiar in or make Daenerys the PC then.
Speaking of Jon Snow, he needs a direwolf companion!
omnigodly Tue, 4th Dec '07, 1:19am Ser Gregor Clegane being an immensely strong, plate wearing, two-handed sword wielding juggernaut sounds about right. Bastard sword is the, "Hand and a half" sword. It would probably fit this description best as it is much longer than a long sword and just short enough to be handled one handed unlike a two-handed sword.
Strife Tue, 4th Dec '07, 2:43am I can't exactly quote the books here, but I believe the author described Ser Gregor Clegane as 8 feet tall and wielding a greatsword that other men would require two hands to use properly.
In contrast, Jon Snow uses a bastard sword (certain fight scenes describe him as using two hands to wield it), and he's definitely shorter and less well-built than Ser Gregor.
Of course, BG2 game mechanics would dictate the use of a bastard sword in place of a two-handed sword in this case.
Splunge Tue, 4th Dec '07, 3:20am Jon Snow - Archer - Long Bow - 14/19/16/17/17/14
wouldn't Jon Snow be more of a Ranger-> Scout?
Agreed. Or at least something more melee-oriented. Definitely not an archer.
Barmy Army Tue, 4th Dec '07, 11:39pm The reason I chose Oberyn as a barbarian is because of the increased speed the kit has, and the light armour, which he also wears. Seemed to fit I reckon.
Jon Snow as an archer seemed to fit as I've not long since finished the attack at the Wall part of the books, where he was something of a deadeye with the longbow.
