We've enabled signatures for SPS account holders (http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/showthread.php?t=44786) a while ago, and now they are available to everyone (you can add yours in your User CP).

There are certain limitations put in place:

- you can't use any images in your signature
- Maximum Characters in Signature Including BBCode Markup: 125
- Maximum Characters in Signature Excluding BBCode Markup: 100
- Maximum Lines in Signature: 2
- this is allowed: basic/link vB Code

What You Shouldn't Do in Your Sig:

- Please do not include any fully or partially auto-censored words in your signature. Auto-censor is something that shouldn't need to be applied in any signature.

----

Please note that signature restrictions for SPS account holders do allow for images/smilies and have higher maximum characters and lines allowed (as specified in the SPS forum).

The restrictions and allowances here may change at any time, depending on how the signatures are being used. This is merely what we're starting with.

Wait....who's Everyone? :skeptic: I never seen his posts, so he must have done something spectacular to earn this.

I think this was a wrong idea. Was nice as a perk for those who are SPS members, but to give to all? :nono: This makes the BoM in a bit like all the other dreadful BS forums. It might even stop new members joining.

The signature options for non-SPS members are significantly limited compared to those of SPS account holders, so I don't think that they really count as anything more than a basic board function for non-SPS members.

That's because everyone else so far has enough good taste to avoid images like the plague.

I'm sure that we'll have more images in signatures eventually, but considering how many years we've done without, it's natural not to have an onslaught of them as soon they are available. And for stuff that makes sense in signatures, text is good enough in 99% of cases.

A wrong idea, but OK if you keep it amongst your elite? Stop members, don't make me laugh. Anyone who doesn't join a forum because it happens to allow sigs I reckon seriously needs to evaluate their life. Signatures are great. They allow a poster to be more individual, and a lot are funny besides. Liven a forum up - the BoM could do with more of it sometimes.

I like the way Tal has implemented signatures. :thumb: Account Holders have plenty of perks including their own private forum where they can go and gossip about whatever/whoever they want. Subject of course to Board rules.

Oh, come on, Nakia. You know as well as I do that the Board rules don't apply to the private forum. It's another great perk. Why, it's a veritable no-holds-barred orgy of rule-breaking goodness in there!

Read my first post again. I said other than a SPS perk it was a bad idea. And Splunge... you only are trying to get more members so they can visit that thread where you link to you stripping. I'm sure their psyche's can't take it. ;)

BA, no, you're reading it wrong. He says sigs for normal members, like yourself, are a bad idea, but a good idea for SPS members. I suggest you take that smarmy "im right" attitude and invest in some reading lessons.

Ooook folks, enough with the sniping, please. This is supposed to be an addition that everyone is happy with, not something to argue over. Part of the SPS perks is also being able to test new things at SP first, and this was one such case. As far as signatures go, SPS account holders still have much more freedom in their creation, and considering how tame their usage has been thus far, the allowances for SPS account holders will likely be raised in the near future.

Also, no worries on the SPS front. There's plenty more in store than just expanded signatures.

Well, I'm sure I could figure it out, withered grey matter notwithstanding. I am accountant, after all. Saviours of the world, and all that there stuff.

So no, it's something other than that.

(And Tal, don't worry. It's all just in fun. :) )

Eww, signatures.

Always liked the lack of signatures here - sigs are messy. I mean, I realise that we're not moving into the 200x300 banner kind of signatures, but I don't think it adds anything and just makes threads look messy.

There are some sites where they work (well, honestly I can think of only one - usually they're just annoying), but I don't think this is one of them.

I agree with those comments. The lack of silly signatures that are just the same message repeated endlessly throughout a forum was one of the things I really liked about BoM. I think signatures just take up space for no benefit. It appears I am in the minority but please don't ever let them get any bigger.

Is there any way I turn off seeing everyone's signatures?

Taluntain
Wed, 19th Dec '07, 12:06pm
But if you absolutely hate even the mere thought of signatures, and want to see none whatsoever, we've got an extremely easy solution for you as well. Simply go to your profile options (http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions), untick "Show Signatures" and Save Changes. That will completely remove all signatures board-wide from your view.

I've posted this in the original signature thread linked in the first post. As you can see, it takes about 2 seconds to remove all the signatures from your view, so there's really no need to lament their appearance here. If you don't like them, just turn them off. It doesn't get any easier than that.

I'm not a big fan of signatures myself either, but when everyone has the option to turn them off completely if they like, I can't see any reason not to allow them.

Takara
Wed, 19th Dec '07, 1:12pm
It is great we can disable them. I must admit i'm tempted to, IF they get overly annoying. Thankfully you have put lots of restrictions on them to prevent it getting that bad. So far the sigs have just remained, mostly, small and just allow a bit of personality to show.

I still think signatures are silly, but I accept that I have the power to turn them off, so I have nothing really to complain about.

As I said in the SPS forum I really don't see the point with signatures when we have the avatar descriptions which might as well be used as signatures and take much less space. However many seem to think otherwise and have taken them to use and as they don't overly disturb me (unless we get animated signatures or some banner types that disturb reading of the board or overly colorful stuff that make my eyes explode).

Even overly long text-based sigs can make my head hurt, proving that there's always too much of a good thing. However if they're kept at a minimum--as they are now--I think they're *great*.

But I have to say that I like Elfen Lied's sig.

Thanks, yours is pretty good too. I don't mind sigs with pics, so long as they aren't huge ones.

I figured that image was rather fitting considering what I use this site for primarily. Baldur's Gate II.

Also that phrase is what comes up in the header for the Index page of the forums, well the last part of the phrase anyway.

And Minsc is probably my favourite character from that game, so yeh it worked out quite nicely.

I did have to shrink the image a little, it was slightly too big.

I have to echo what Aik said - the absence of sigs is one of the things that helped set SP apart from the rest.

I'm not opposed to them, though - as long as they remain text. Image sigs aggravate the hell out of me (I too have been around other forums with gigantic image sigs), but as long as they remain small and unintrusive and don't clog up a thread, then I'm cool with that.

OTOH, I understand that sigs can be switched off, which is a great thing.
