For the non Dutch and non Americans on the board:

Yesterday evening, Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries aired his 2 hour special of Joran van der Sloots confession of disposing the body of Natalee Holloway. For any who don't know the story, this girl went missing almost three year ago in Aruba. Van der Sloot has always been the prime suspect but never charged, the case was dismissed about two months ago.

The special will be aired at ABC tonight I think.

Van der Sloot confessed to a confidant who he befriended during the last 8 months. This guy portrays (although he probably is) a criminal, someone who van der Sloot relates to. That is judging from the videos. On the tapes he confesses everything. Van der Sloot himself defends himself by saying that he only told the story (in his words lie) because his friend wanted to hear it and he was looking up to him.

There is not a doubt in my mind that Joran knows more than he has stated to the authorities so far. But unlike most Dutch people so far the story he confessed yesterday, I doubt it is entirely true, and it will definately not be enough to charge him for much. He is however a horrendous individual.

The fact however is that Peter R. de Vries effectively killed him by airing this show which BTW had quite some american sensationalism mixed in. The way Joran is perceived here is nothing short of inhuman.

I wonder what other people think of the show or these latest developments.

P.S. I know this seems lame, but again not all Dutch people smoke joints in the car, without a seatbelt, and driving, have no respect for woman and enjoy boasting about how they lied to half the world.

I hope this gives some closure to the family. I don't think justice will ever be served, but at least they can stop hoping and praying and try to move on with life (as difficult as it will be)

I saw the show (heck, half the Dutch population saw the show). I thought it was quite boring actually. So he knew more than he originally said (big surprise ) and he probably didn't tell the whole truth again (again, big surprise ). The interview with Holloway's mother at the end (the American sensationalism Apeman mentioned) was terrible... but brilliant work by De Vries as I'm sure he sold it to the highest bidding US tv station and the average Oprah watcher will think it is good television. The mother actually said something along the lines of: "Look what he did to our country", while the only country who is negatively influenced by it all is Aruba, since the American tourists were finally returning, but I'm sure they will stay away again for the next few years after tonight (a big amount of the money Aruba makes is through American tourists).

I doubt Van Der Sloot will ever be sentenced for a long time (if at all), but he will surely get some angry-mob-justice.
