You probably haven't noticed, but I've removed the "Report Rule Violations" link from the top of all message board pages. This isn't because we've suddenly become a utopian community where no one breaks any rules any more, but because the link is no longer necessary as it has been replaced by a better way or reporting problematic posts.

On our spiffy new boards, there is a Report Post (http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/images/_bom/buttons/report.gif) icon inside every post (to the left of the signature area). When you report a post via the said icon, we get exact identification of the problematic post, so you don't need to describe where the post is at or link to it - you simply explain why you're reporting it. It doesn't get any easier than that. So in the future, please make use of the in-built post reporting facility if you're making a general report that the first moderator who sees it should act upon.

If for some reason you want to notify only a single moderator of a problematic post, you can still do so via a private message to them.

Finally, if all else fails, there's still a Contact Us link at the bottom of every page of the boards, which will take you to the SP contact form.

Thanks for today's report of a spammer, Loreseeker and Montresor.

Folks, if you see a spammer in a thread, please don't reply to them. The spammer's post(s) will be deleted, as will any replies to the spammer. By replying to spammers, you just make more work for the moderators because they have to delete your posts as well. Use the post report function as described above instead. Thank you.

You're welcome.

That was fast - I think the spammer's post was timestamped at 16:02 (local time), and it's now 16:19 and the post is dealt with. :thumb:

Edit - spotted (and reported) a new one in the same thread.

You're welcome, Tal. :)

I was shocked to see that post there.
Sometimes I forget that SP is a part of Internet, I've come to think of it as of separate entity.

Out of curiosity, what qualifies a post to be deemed "spam" worthy of deletion? I think 90% of my posts are rather useless (and thus could be considered spam), but AFAIK, none of them have been deleted on the basis of their spaminess (or is that "spamocity"?). So there's oviously more to a post being spam than just being silly.

taluntain is probably talking about the ones that advertise something(drugs or porn) available for sale on another website. i see these all the time at the prc forum.

Yup, that pretty much describes it. It's the same kind of advertising/commercial spam that you get from e-mail spammers.

One time I got this email in which they sold guns, bazookas and I think there were SAM's in there as well and some extremely questionable personnel mines and whatnots for your usual dirty guerilla warfare.

It was funny that I got it since I was theology student back then and finnish...What would a guy that's supposed to become a priest do with such items?

Later on I found out that according to CIA that specific company was actually a credit-card hoax. Some people had actually bought some of those items, but never got what they bargained for. Unbelievable. If I wan't a SCUD for instance, and I'm ready to pay for it, I expect the damn thing delivered to my front door. The nerve!

SP rules. Keep them dirtymercials out :thumb:

In the 3+ years I've been here I've never seen any such posts on the BoM, and somehow assumed SP was unique in being the only internet forum that never gets any spam. I guess this is a testament to how good the staff are at taking care of these things promptly. Good work! :thumb:
