All registered members can now enjoy the latest new BoM feature, a full-fledged arcade system (8 games available at the moment). You can access it via the "BoM Arcade" link in the board navigation bar on every page, to the right of the "Calendar" link and to the left of the "New Posts" link. This is in the row just below the private messages count on the top right of every page.

Comments, questions, etc. - post them all here. Wasting time here just got a little easier. :shake:

Well, I had a hard time with my touchpad on my laptop (didn't have my mouse with me) when I started sweating (somewhere around 15) and my fingers didn't move so adequately and I started losing my renowned touch! :D

I think I reached my limits at that game, I got such a headache, I'm not sure I'll try to beat the new record (and I don't believe I couls anyway).

I support Decados, if anybody can do it, I believe he can! ;)

Blackthorne TA

Yeah, it's almost the same as Space Invaders: Just a grind. Only the additional challenge is the mouse leaves the window sometimes and you lose control of the paddle.

After I originally surpassed Faye's score I stopped being careful and tried to keep as many balls on the screen as possible. Eventually I lost them all instead :)

I've tested a version of Gauntlet 2 but it's so buggy that I won't add it, since wall clipping (and not being able to get back in) and getting trapped inside areas without keys to open them is probably not by design... but then, I never played the original, so those could be "features"... though I doubt it. :shake: Maybe I can find a better version at some point.

Taluntain
Sun, 20th Jul '08, 6:19pm
This seems to be a common issue with the arcade but no one knows all the exact cause(s) why it happens. A few general pointers on how to avoid it are:

Tick the "Remember me" box when you log in
Don't use the refresh or back buttons in your browser to start a new game
Only play 1 game at a time (don't have more than 1 game open in browser tabs)
Aside from the notice you mentioned, do you see any other errors when this happens?

Decados
Sun, 20th Jul '08, 9:30pm
No, that was the only message I received. However, it is possible that I would have used the back button, rather than using the link. I guess that'd explain why it decided not to allow some scores.

I think Tic-Tac-Toe should go. The machine "AI" is not and it's really nothing more than a test of masochism to see how long you can keep slauthering the machine (except for the very rare tie). I figured I'd just go for 125 wins and the computer only tied me 16 times in that time period. Lame.

Taluntain
Mon, 21st Jul '08, 11:17pm
That's probably on purpose, because otherwise the AI would always either tie or win... and that wouldn't be much fun to play.

Moon Lander is nearly a good game - but argh - repitition. It's pretty easy when you've got the hang of it.It gets very difficult to take off without smashing into the rocks above as the gravity increases enough. It's not too bad landing, but not easy either.

Destroy All Humans has the wrong scoring. Is there a way to make the lower score better? Or maybe subtract the actual timer score from 10000 or somesuch? As it is it makes no sense. Whoever can sit around the longest not capturing humans is the leader.

But in general, very cool addition Tal. :thumb: I just hope somebody starts schooling BTA so he gets off his "ooh, look at me I'm the super-dooper champion" pedistal. Ah! A bounty! 10 shillings to the man brave enough to become the NEW Tiny Pinball champion... :p

Quick question. Does anyone know of a way to slow down the games? There are a couple that go way too fast on my computer so I really have no chance to make any kind of decent score. Thanks.

Taluntain
Thu, 14th Aug '08, 11:11pm
DR, well, just replace some other time wasters in favour of the BoM arcade. :p

dmc, catbert tells me that there's not much that can be done about it. If the game is old (and most of these are) today's computers can be significantly faster and since Flash goes by the CPU clock speed (or the game's FPU was set very high to compensate for the slowness at the time it was made), the games speed up. Use this program (http://files.filefront.com/cpugrabzip/;7896080;/fileinfo.html) to overload your CPU to the point where the games will run normally.

Btw, in which games do you experience this?

I'm not sure if I can lose; I haven't added any defenders since I stopped directly playing, yet my castle is unbreachable without any direct influence from me... I may just have to shut it down and lose my score which is over 14 million now.

Taluntain
Mon, 1st Sep '08, 2:45pm
You're welcome! To be honest, this version annoys me because it's such a rare event that you can make it to the end and clear all the tiles, even with pre-emptive resetting to get a version that at least looks like you can clear the centre and flanks early (which usually turns out to be an illusion too). The Taipei from the MS Entertainment Pack back in the day got me spoiled...

I also can't figure out how it applies the bonus in the end. I finished a game in 5 minutes yesterday (cleared all the tiles), but I got a worse score than with a game that took me over 30 minuts earlier. :hmm:

Is that so? I was wondering about that. The funny thing is until I played at lunchtime at work, I didn't realize the score and the time were displayed so I didn't really know how long I was taking. That dark green color didn't show up on my monitor at home until I made gamma adjustments to my display driver (my monitor is showing it's age; the brightness and contrast on the monitor controls are already way up).

The 100m running highscores are wrong. Faster running should yield a better, not a worse place. It would also be nice if we had more detailed scores in the highscore table, there's a big difference between 9.6 and 9.99 seconds.

dmc
Wed, 24th Sep '08, 12:29am
I think the maze one is also screwed up, as I got a high score for it, but it took me quite a while to get through it.

On the 100m one, I ran a 9.77 and a 9.24, but got 10 for the first and no credit for the second.

The poker game is a bit dumb.

That was a good idea.

I had a bunch of fun! :)

I'm glad you like the arcade!

I've changed the layout in the arcade a bit (I think it's more convenient by default now) and added 7 new games today.

Heh, I've stopped trying to try all the games some time ago... and every few weeks, there are more. :shake:

Tal, I'm blaming you when I start being late for my lectures because I played around in BoM Arcade :p

I miss the "in new window" option, the ability to play games in an increased window size which was removed with the last update.
Most games are more fun if you don't have to play them in a small part of the screen.

Good catch, I didn't even notice that was missing. I'll revert to the previous layout until I add it to the new one.
