View Full Version : It takes a German ...
Ragusa Thu, 26th Jun '08, 12:26am ... beaver to build a dam in England. (http://www.rawstory.com/news/mochila/Beaver_dam_built_in_England_after_l_06252008.html) Most certainly with German precision and efficiency. Hah! Good riddance you passionate hunters, you :p
Splunge Thu, 26th Jun '08, 4:04pm The link only loads a blank page for me. Although I'm at work, so it could be our firewall (or something else).
Register Thu, 26th Jun '08, 4:16pm Nope, blank for me as well on a home network.
dmc Thu, 26th Jun '08, 4:46pm Blank for me today, but it worked yesterday.
LKD Thu, 26th Jun '08, 5:54pm Blank for me too, but I heard about this story on the news yesterday! Hurray for beavers! They're a Canadian symbol, you know -- there's a beaver on the back of our five-cent coin.
I'm not a big green fan, but I like programs like this that re-introduce animals to their former habitats. This story also illustrates the fact that humans hunting animals to extinction is not a phenomenon limited to the post industrial world. IIRC, they said that the English beaver was hunted out of existence in the 1200s or so. That's not a good thing, of course, but it stops the sanctimonious crap from activists about how hundreds of years ago mankind "lived in perfect harmony with nature and all was Edenic."

A lot of the large land animals were also driven to extinction in Australia and North America. It's certainly not limited to the Industrial nor the A.D. age.
Ragusa Thu, 26th Jun '08, 9:09pm Yep, great they're back. One "Hurrah!" for the beavers.
Better link (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jun/25/beaver-dam-built-in-england-after-long-absence/).
Caradhras Fri, 27th Jun '08, 10:34am Beavers are nice. ;)
Iku-Turso Sat, 28th Jun '08, 2:16pm Yes. I like beavers, and I don't mind if it's german or from wherever...
Loreseeker Sun, 29th Jun '08, 2:05am First beaver dam there in centuries... nice feeling. :)
Chandos the Red Sun, 29th Jun '08, 7:19am One "Hurrah!" for the beavers.
I second that....
Ragusa Sun, 29th Jun '08, 9:29am ... it isn't a baseball team of your area, by any chance :skeptic: :p
Decados Sun, 29th Jun '08, 1:37pm One more voice in support of the beavers!
Aldeth the Foppish Idiot Mon, 30th Jun '08, 6:54pm Oh the unintentional comedy. A bunch of mostly men talking about how they like "beavers"
Iku-Turso Tue, 1st Jul '08, 11:22am Yes. I do like it when a beaver drags a log.
LKD Wed, 2nd Jul '08, 5:58pm Aldeth, I don't think most of the humor is "unintentional." ;)
I'm just glad that a species is being re-introduced to a former habitat.
