Hm. I started a new 4-CD torment game w/ the retail patch, Qwinn's fixpack, Unfinished business, and the widescreen mod.

When I try to save the game however, when it comes time to name the save - the field automatically fills up with periods. like this,

.................................................. .

this prevents me from typing anything, and since PST doesn't allow any punctuation in savegame titles, manual saving is sometimes impossible.

I can still quicksave of course, and occasionally I can snap off a single letter in the savegame field before the periods start spamming, but descriptive saves are useful in torment -- Save A, B, C, and D will work if necessary, but are not ideal.

I'm wondering if this problem sounds familiar to anyone, I can't find any references to it online.

Must be one of the mods; I've never heard of such an issue before.

Maybe the "." key is stuck on your keyboard. Have you opened a text editor and not seen the repeated periods?

No the key isn't stuck, I'm writing this just fine, and word pad and ms word exhibit no period spamming - and more news, - I just installed bg2, Tob, the ToB patch, The Widescreen mod, BG2's unfinished business, and a fixpack, and in addition to the widescreen mod not working w/ bg2, - when i go to name a character, lo and behold, the name field fills up with periods.

sooo the commonality between the two is the widescreen mod, but i don't see how this is happening.

Easy way to check: uninstall both games, reinstall them and check if the problem is still happening. If it's not, install each mod one at a time until the problem returns. Then you'll know what's causing it.

EDIT: Ah, it had nothing to do with mods after all. Ah well, as long the problem's solved.

Well...Thanks for the responses guys I think I figured the problem out, - it has something to do with the 'CH control manager' I use to fool windows into thinking my flight-stick and rudder pedals are a single multi-axis device, which you need to do if you want older games that only recognize a single control device to use all the axis available.

Everytime you activate the multi-axis device, the program tinkers with Window's input drivers somehow. I had the manager auto-enabling the device w/ windows startup since I'm on a mech3 and freespace 2 binge at the moment, but once i told the control manager to cool it and rebooted, there's no more period spamming in infinity games.
