I did not mean to do it! I have been playing NWN for a couple of years now (off and on), once again I find myself in Port Llast. It's early in Chapter 2. I was just running around town with my henchman (Sharwyn) talking to people, picking up loot etc. At some point Sharwyn went on the defensive - not with me but 'in general' ... she started yelling at everything as though she was going to attack. I tried to talk to her, but when I clicked on her, nothing would happen. So I right clicked thinking the talk option would show up and it didn't. So I kept running around town. I was a few houses away when i realized she wasn't with me (I needed her to pick a lock) ... I looked at my map and didn't even see her green point ..... so I thought maybe she had died. But why? Anyway, I wandered back over to where I thought I had last seen her and sure enough she was there ... so I walked over to her to try and talk with her and she attacked me. I tried not to attack her then I realized she was going to kill me. So I killed her.
What gives? Does this really happen? Or did I screw something up??? I have never even come close to killing a henchman before!

There's some odd henchmen behaviour/bugs in NWN, but I've seen less of it as the patches progressed. Do you have the latest official patch installed?

Until HotU, dead henchman instantly respawn at the local temple so it's not much of a problem getting them back even if you kill them. I don't think they'll be hostile after you approach them again.

Some people just dream of kiling their henchmen.

ha ha ha ...
well, she never showed back up for the rest of chapter 2. However, when I got to chapter 3, she was right there with all the others. I was never able to finish her quest however.

Yeah that's one of the more annoying aspects of the OC. With each new chapter you don't really carry your henchmen over there's a new higher level and better-equipped version waiting for you. Each chapter is treated as an entirely new module.

Each chapter is treated as an entirely new module.
That's because they are a different module each. If you look in the modules folder each chapter has its own module file. I suppose the advantage is that all the oddities reset to normal each time and you get back your henchman if something strange like what Corangrane described happens.
