Played human assassin to lvl21 (Got 7x backstab) and dual-classed her to a mage. Currently im lvl 14 mage and i cant even wonder how cool it will be to spam backstabs with black blade of disaster and shadow door!

(yea, there is no point in this thread.. just wanted to share it with you)

ARE YOU SURE that BB of Disaster work properly for a backstab?
According to game engine if a weapon is not usable by a thief, it can not be used to backstab (hence Valygar's katana)

I do not want to demoralize you, but there is a good chance it will not work as you mentioned. However timestop, shadowdoor, nondetection, spell immnity:divination will make you a decent backstabber, just get a good weapon.

Oh good, maybe you can figure out some assassin/mage questions I had before.

You could try doing that backstabbing trick with mislead. I heard it was a cool overpowering cheap tactic, but I never got it to work properly. If you get it to work, please tell me how!

Also when you regain your thief class, I had some problems with the message box displaying the backstab properly. I wonder if it was just my game... (There's an old thread on this if you search.)

Hmm yea it might not work with BB of Disaster, but shadow door and timestop alone makes it sound pretty cool. Ill inform u how it went and prolly post the character so u can try out yourselves (will take some time to lvl up my mage tho) :)

Shadow Door is pointless once you get Mislead.

As many 7x backstabs as you have levels...cool enough? :D

You still need to BEHIND the guy, and if there are enemy mages around, you might want to get Spell Immunity : Divination up...they spam True Sight like crazy.

Actually, if you leave your clone far enough, their true sights won't work...

No. True Sight cancels all illusions in the area. Atleast, in my experience, this has always been the case.

no. only 70' radius around the caster.

Speaking of True Sight, does Non-Detection do anything against it? I've heard conflicting accounts.

Non-Detection does, yes. For example, if you wear Staff of the Magi and Cloak of Non-Detection, True Sight does not work against you.

Hmm. The Staff of the Magi gives you invisibility on demand, yes? What about a thief's Hide in Shadows ability? Does Non-Detection preserve that in the face of True Sight? Nothing worse than trying to backstab a lich, but getting imprisoned instead...

In my experience, non detection, from any source, will protect stealth but not invisibility. I'll try to get a screenie up.

It does break through non-detection

Hm....I always wondered what non-detection was.

the name 'non-detection' kind of gives away the fact it prevents against detection, eh Erisad? :p

Angryguy is right. Non-detection prevents ANY method of detection (except perhaps a thief using detection illusion - I'm not sure) when you are hiding in shadows. It does NOT prevent detection from True Sight or Oracle when you are invisible but will protect against other divination spells, not that it matters because enemies only use True Sight.
