View Full Version : Paladins - best prestige class
TarsomCarsomyr Tue, 16th Oct '01, 11:46pm Personally I think the Cavalier is the best prestige class. You get the basic paladin stuff, a few bonuses, and you cant use missile weapons. But who uses missile weapons as a paladin? you get resistances, immune to fear, all so you cant use missile weapons. I say go for it.
Will Wed, 17th Oct '01, 12:59am Yeah, I agree. However, this topic has been done and done again. I'm just surprised no-one's smacked you down for it yet; this lot aren't usually so forgiving :D . Don't say I didnt warn you ... ;)

slienad laup Wed, 17th Oct '01, 3:09am I started playing SOA recently and am having a great time. It is nice to be able to have chats about our mistakes, successes and questions as we go not just look up old archives. The game I have just started is a cavalier who will only use evil NPCs ( and one neutral theif I'm not good enough to do it without one) as they can't be doing evil while they're with him and when they do good it's more of an achievement. Each to their own ( within the rules of the board) and go you good thing.
greenhorn for now

Extremist Wed, 17th Oct '01, 5:10pm A class that can be reached only in one race can NOT be prestige. Human=paladin? Bah!
Same goes for multiclassed illusionist.
Racism is main reason I hate d&d rules for.
For second, I don't think there is "prestige" in classes that you can't choose between at least two different alignments in character creation.
StressedE Wed, 17th Oct '01, 7:23pm I really like the anti-undead paladin.
Considering the ammount of vampires you face or even shadows. Those level drains really annoy me.
Big B Wed, 17th Oct '01, 8:55pm Look on the bright side Extremist, you can always use ShadowKeeper to change races and classes and make new combos  :p
Firestorm Wed, 17th Oct '01, 10:22pm Extremist: Do you also hate the 3E rules then? There any race can be whatever class they desire, I love 3E.
TarsomCarsomyr: The difference between a Prestige Class and a Kit is that you coose a kit like an add-on to a normal class. A Prestige class is effectively a new class, its like multiclassing. So there's the difference.
My favorite paladin KIT: Hmmmm? i dont know thats why my current party consists of four paladins; one Inquisitor, one Cavalier, one Undead Hunter and one vanilla paladin. So i use them all. My other party members are Anomen and Jan, so my non-combat ressources are rather limited).
Aurum Fri, 2nd Nov '01, 4:55am Cavalier, my Paladin can kill lichs and vampires with turn undead
Ragusa Fri, 2nd Nov '01, 9:52am You are right Extremist !!!!! Basically cavaliers are a great class but they are wasted on human race only ! halfling  cavaliers  are the way to go !!!
EciDemon Fri, 2nd Nov '01, 10:56am Cavaliers is sertanly cool i must say. Now when me and my friend play in multiplayer I have a Cavalier as my second character, my friend has a clerec/thief as his second one. So with our main characters (Sorceress and Kensai) I think we make a good team. Our party has atleast taken us halfway thro the game so far :)
Cavalier natural resistance and his other perks is very nice indeed and as mentiond before that he can not use missile weapons is not a real dissadvantage for most players since they would never use them anyway. :)
Cavalier can only have two stars in a weapons skill right ? (cos that would be the only flaw I can think of ;) )
Xuncle Fri, 2nd Nov '01, 11:43am Cavalier is cool but I prefer the Inquisitor Paladin. The true sight and dispell magic (at double his level) abilities make him quite awesome.
(Except when he runs away in panic when Viconia does her control undead thing, heh.)
Alyr Arkhon Fri, 2nd Nov '01, 11:45pm Extremist, you can modify the rules anytime, anywhere. Roleplaying is the first, the rules are only the second!
Laksol Sat, 3rd Nov '01, 5:12am When a cavalier grabs that damn Carsomyr, he truly outweigh dispelling inquisitor.
