View Full Version : Fighter/Mage/Thief -- ever try one (with a party)
Klorox Mon, 24th Nov '03, 7:22am Just a little curious about this multi-class combo.
On the surface, I'd think this combo a little too much, and that the protagonist would not advance quickly enough to keep up with the NPCs.
But, I've never tried one out (with a party -- NOT SOLO!). Has anyone ever tried this? What were the results?
Valer Mon, 24th Nov '03, 7:52am Are you collecting gems?

Duke Eltan Mon, 24th Nov '03, 8:00am Iīve never tried a F/M/T either in a party.
Because of the simple reason that there isnīt enough xp for that. Especially if you take Jaheira and Aerie in your party. Which I always do. So therefor I think itīs dumb to play a F/M/T if you have a full party. And also, you would never need it since you got mages and thieves in your party that is just as good as you. Or almost anyway :)
Valer... And you arenīt?
Atleast post something concerning the thread.
Klorox Mon, 24th Nov '03, 8:25am Are you collecting gems?Color me confused.
Thanks for the response, Duke.
Spelladonna Mon, 24th Nov '03, 12:41pm Without the XP cap remover or ToB installed, you would be hard pressed to get enough experience to run a full party with a F/M/T. People think Jaheira advances slowly -- F/M/T take nearly a lifetime to get to decent levels.
I've run F/M/T only a couple of times and both times the only other character I had was a cleric (for the romance). I'd pick up others only for their quests, but then drop them once completed. I seemed to progress fairly well but it does seem to take a long while to make any headway.

All romance's are a cleric of some type, which one?
Spelladonna Mon, 24th Nov '03, 1:04pm Interesting -- I really hadn't realized that all the romances were cleric types.
For female, it's obvious: Anomen
For male, Viconia (and occasionally Anomen)
Earl Grey Mon, 24th Nov '03, 1:21pm I've played a F/T with Edwin, Korgan and Viconia several times - notably only four characters in that party.
The only time I've played a F/M/T is when soloing. IMO a F/M/T is a bad choice in a full party because his skills are acceptable only as a thief.
casey Mon, 24th Nov '03, 1:32pm well not so much pure cleric's as romance's that cast cleric spells :)
Strifestrike Mon, 24th Nov '03, 3:09pm F/M/T solo is monstrous. However in a party hes definetly not worth taking.
CamDawg Mon, 24th Nov '03, 5:15pm I've played a FMT solo and in a party. As a solo, the game becomes extremely easy as you are essentially an entire party in one character. In a party, though, the FMT is pretty worthless as you get relegated to a support role.
LKD Mon, 24th Nov '03, 6:13pm Having a versatile PC as a support isn't always a bad thing. I often run a F/M/C, as he can do just about anything, though I hesitate to use him in melee (I do the fighter part of the class to get better hit-points, specialize a little, and be passable if melee becomes inevitable) By the end of the game, he can be good in any of his three classes depending on the gear you give him. I'd be willing to bet the same thing can be said of a F/M/T.
From a role playing perspective, such a multiclass is sensible to me in that during the PC's life at Candlekeep, he would have wanted as much training as possible and would have taken it where he could.
Mystra's Chosen Mon, 24th Nov '03, 6:50pm Once the F/M/T gets level 6 spells, he's nigh indestructable. Mislead allows you to backstab many times in a few seconds.
Tassadar Mon, 24th Nov '03, 8:19pm F/M/T is the perfect solo character - but becomes a liability in a party
all those backstab tricks really kill... literally
Klorox Mon, 24th Nov '03, 11:15pm For female, it's obvious: Anomen
For male, Viconia (and occasionally Anomen)LOL! Is that a typo or some "rainbow mod" I never heard of?
Razal'dar Tue, 25th Nov '03, 12:35am I'm running a F/M/T at the moment in a party containing Viconia, Korgan and Edwin. I wanted to play evil (and i'm doing a damn fine job if I do say so myself! :) ) and not take Yoshimo so I opted for the fighter/thief but then thought from a role play perspective, the son of a god should be able to cast some mean spells so i opted for the F/T/M. I've got the xp cap removed and i'm playing with the ease-of-use mod so i'm getting the three strongholds as well. I have to say i'm having gret fun. He's chaotic evil, my thief/scout, my back-up spell caster and also a front line fighter if need be. He can cast stoneskin and with those fighter proficiencies he's a dervish in melee-heavy combat. I'm wondering now why I never took one before!!
